Joan As Police Woman - Sacred Trickster

Thursday, time for a cover.

"Sacred Trickster" is a tune by American alternative rock band SONIC YOUTH, it was released on the fifteenth and final studio album "The Eternal", released on June 9, 2009 by Matador Records, their first and only on that label. It was their first studio album in three years (since Rather Ripped), making it the band's longest delay between studio albums.

"The Eternal" was the band's highest charting album of their career in the United States, peaking at No. 18 on the Billboard 200.

"Sacred Trickster" could be a metaphore of a woman who wants to literally embody the music is used to symbolize how misogynistic the music culture is and how little impact most female artists have. With Kim screaming this opening, this is also an ironic song about how women's voices are rarely acknowledged no matter how loud they may be speaking. Words continue to be put in thier mouths. Hence the fake dialogue - "what's it like to be a girl in a band? i don't quite understand. That's so quaint to hear. I feel so faint my dear."

Today's version is made by Joan Wasser, an American musician, singer-songwriter and producer who releases music as JOAN AS POLICE WOMAN.

Here version was released on her album "Cover", released 2009, an album of cover versions by JOAN AS POLICE WOMAN. The limited edition physical CD version of the album was sold through Joan's official website and at her live shows. The cover picture makes reference to the cover of the 1973 album "Everything I Do Gonna Be Funky" by O'Donel Levy. Enjoy this Lydverket Spanderer version!
