The Black Heart Death Cult - Sonic Mantras

Monday, new week and it's time to introduce "Record Of The Week".

"Sonic Mantras" is the second album from Melbourne heavy psych/shoegazers THE BLACK HEART DEATH CULT (TBHDC).

Sparkly magic mountain-drops fall from the outer cosmic reaches in the re-imagined mind-forest of The Flower Captain. Gloom/doom singer/songwriter Sasha L Smith envisions a brave new dark age of droney bliss in the sonic bazaar. Domenic Evans fret wizard, Deon Slaviero bass dealer, Andy Nunns time machine & Gabbie Potocnik Italian keys are on the magic bus they call “The Black Heart Death Cult”.

"Sonic Mantras" is an album about the heart felt frustration of humanity and how badley we take care of our planet "Earth". And when you spin the record you can hear how it's crying.

The album opens up with in a dark and beautiful manner of "Goodbye Gatwick Blues", where we get a drifty and droney piece that flows forward like the smoke of a nag champa incense. Followed up in the psychadelic "Cold Fields", where the vocals gives a chanting feel, that continues on the psych-drone-rocker "One Way Through", a very groovy tune. On the track "Trees" the band hit the brakes and bring in some 60's psych with a catchy chorus and some western guitars. Next turn comes on the first tune on the flip side, "Death From Above", gives us half paced shoegaze journey with some lovely organs by Gabbie Potocnik. "The Sun Inside" and "Dark Waves" follows the more typical layout and have some nice guitars by Bill Patching on the first one. The album ends with the first single "Sonic Dhoom" where we get serverd some psychedelic vocal and sitars that gives a world music flare. The sitar is played by David Balaban and he is giving a marvelous solo in a true spiritual mood, great track that ends this magnific album which stimulates your mind beyond our troubled times.

Sum: An excellent space glazed mantra for these troubled times, don't miss this!

There’s a mailorder exclusive Gold/Black Dust variant of 150 and a White vinyl of 250 copies, all vinyls plated & pressed on heavy high performance vinyl by Pallas Group in Germany. There was initially a Deluxe 2xLP set of 100 copies which included the mailorder variant and a ltd repress of their debut album, but that is already sold out.
