"Red House" is a song written by Jimi Hendrix and originally recorded by The Jimi Hendrix Experience in 1966. The song, a slow twelve-bar blues, "is one of the most traditional in sound and form of all his official recordings". It was developed during his pre-Experience days while Hendrix was performing in Greenwich Village and was inspired by earlier blues songs. Hendrix recorded several studio and live versions during his career; later, "Red House" has been recorded by a variety of blues and other artists.

The theme of "Red House" is "as old as the blues itself—the singer's woman doesn't love him any more and has moved". According to Noel Redding, Hendrix told him "the song was written about his old high school girlfriend Betty Jean Morgan", although her house was reportedly brown. It has been suggested that Linda Keith's (who brought Hendrix to the attention of Chas Chandler) friend's New York apartment with "the red velvet walls and decor influenced Jimi's writing". However, for Billy Cox "As far as I know, 'Red House' didn't have any significance in reference to a particular person, place or thing. It was just a blues number that Jimi put together".

There is a big story goes back to a red house in the haight ashbury destrict in san francisco, these stories were told and confirmed by some people who lived in that area.
the red house is at 1524 haight street where two sisters who were jimi hendrix girlfriends lived in 1524A and 1526 haight, uppper stories in the same building, and jimi hendrix song"the red House" is telling the story about his girlfriends who were sisters and lived in that building .most tourist books and tourist maps has mentioned this house as Jimi Hendrix Red House.
I lived at 1526 Haight St in the early 80s. It was already then known as "The Red House " The flat contained 6 bedrooms, a living room, the kitchen and a bathroom with a separate toilet. In the 60's it was a rooming house with separate rooms rented out. Me and my friends moved in right after it had been remodeled in November of 1981. The owner at the time was a Berkeley cop, nice guy. The rent was $1000.00. There was a rear staircase which wound it's way up to the top floor. For the Haight Street Fare you could not ask for a better view. 1524A was a very small mezzanine apartment inside the store front which at the time was a video store. It was removed some time ago when the building sold in the early nineties I believe.
