Patti Smith - Constantine's Dream

Today I made a small visit to a very good and cozy little record shop, mostly to congratulate the store owner on his birthday and chat a little music, always a pleasure to slip in and exchange a few words, see what has happened within the music market and if something fun have been released. For some reason when you get in it usually is very rarely that you come out empty handed.

Also this time I came out with a bag in my hand. Today it became in fact an album with Patti Smith, her latest on Vinyl, which apparently should sound fantastic according to the store owner ... fun going to be really nice to listen to it. But as usual I can not keep myself, on with Spotify and listen to the plate. Shit, this was really good, she is truly have a high standard even if the years has gone. The album sounds really good. Banga has sweet moments of tunes" with alot of magic.

Banga is the eleventh studio album by American rock musician, polar prize winner Patti Smith, released on June 1, 2012. Recorded throughout 2011 at New York's Electric Lady Studios and Hoboken's Hobo Recorders, Banga was produced by Smith, Tony Shanahan, Jay Dee Daugherty and collaborator Lenny Kaye. The album includes a number of guest muscians including Tom Verlaine of Television, Jack Petruzzelli and Smith's own children, Jackson and Jesse Paris.

Inspired by Smith's "unique dreams and observations," the material on Banga focuses on "a wide range of human experience" and features songs about history, current affairs, death and nature.

Todays tune "Constantine's Dream", taken from Banga, is one of the album's stand-out tracks, the one that really hooked me.

Ne Obliviscaris- Forget Not

Today we take a giant leap and land on other side of the sphere, namely Melbourne, Australia. There we find a band "Ne Obliviscaris" (pronounced; Nay Ob-li-vis-kar-is), they formed already in 2003, hit the live scene February, 2006 to widespread critical acclaim with many hailing their unique sound, intense live shows and extremely talented line-up.

A 6 piece metal band consisting of violin, 2 guitars, bass, drums, clean and extreme vocals; Ne Obliviscaris include a vast array of influences within their sound from progressive to black, thrash, death and melodic metal, and even western art music, jazz and flamenco. Creating music of many extremes, and with compositions often exceeding ten minutes in length, Ne Obliviscaris is at times very technical and complex and at others simple and subtle, creating an extremely original brand of metal that defies normal categorisation.

A review on WeRock can be found here, is written by Martin Bensch! And I can only agree with what he writes. This is a really damn good album and will probably stay for a list positioning when this year's records will be crowned.

Nice T-Shirt, get it here!

Today tune "Forget Not", is taken from their new album "Portal Of I", order it here!

Here is a pretty new clip with Ne Obliviscaris from Melbourne performing their song, Forget Not live at The Wall in Sydney on 16th June, 2012.

The band consists of:

Xenoyr - Lead Vocals & Lyrics
Tim Charles - Violin & Clean Vocals
Matt Klavins - Guitar
Brendan 'Cygnus' Brown - Bass
Benjamin Baret- Lead guitar
Nelson Barnes - Drums

The Night Flight Orchestra - Transatlantic Blues

New week and new month which means new reviews on WeRock. Among the texts that I read, I found much of interest, but one was sticking out, Martin Bensch lines about "Björn Strids" new project.

"The Night Flight Orchestra" started like so many others as an innocent yet serious drunken idea when Björn Strid (Soilwork) and David Andersson (Mean Streak, session Soilwork) were on the road together somewhere in North America in 2007.

Björn and David were bonding over what they considered "classic" or not, from rock n roll conspiracies to being arrested in a lobby with nothing but leather pants on. All those scenarios, fictional or real, needed a soundtrack. They also came to think that whether you're on a metal tour or not, a lot of classic rock songs say it all and can really lend you a helping hand and make you forget about everything, especially when in motion or travelling. The classic escape. The never-ending road trip. The transatlantic night flight. It may sound simple and naive but what it all comes down to is that we all need that soundtrack to feel extra special, whether you have been arrested in a lobby or not.

It didn't take long before bass player Sharlee D' Angelo (Arch Enemy, Spiritual Beggars) joined forces as well as keyboard player Richard Larsson (Von Benzo) and drummer Jonas Källsbäck (Mean Streak). The goal was to reclaim the 70's/early 80's sense for classic melody, the forgotten recipe to a timeless song, preferably a song mentioning a city, street name or an exhilarating alcoholic beverage. Anything that will have you spitting out the word 'classic'. From "Tarot Woman" to "Badlands", from "Rhiannon" to "Running on Empty", from "Blind Man" to "Night Moves", from "Deuce" to "Separate Ways", from "Elected" to "Set me Free". The list goes on. It's all about reclaiming the "classic".

Björn has a great voice, and here he really blossom, no growl, just a voice that is incredibly powerful. The band creates a great back to basics rock that take the curves very nice with a heavy swing. I like this and hope that this comes on Vinyl soon.

Todays tune "Transatlantic Blues" is taken from the debut album "Internal Affairs"

Pig Eyes - We Are Kings

The Cosmos Pig is here!

Pig Eyes, a band from Stockholm, Sweden, they play a classic heavy rock melted together with punk, psychedelia and cosmos. The band consists of a very interesting constellation that it would be near impossible to establish, with members from such diverse bands as In Solitude, Nitad, Kvoteringen and Trapdoor Fucking Exit.

The band has just released debut LP "Total Destruction of the Present Moment", contains only four tracks but clocks nevertheless in on about the same length as the "Reign In Blood". There was a special version of the record (Vinyl) for sale, exclusively for the release party, limited and hand numrerad to just 50 items.

Get your copy of Pig Eyes long awaited debut 12" in the De:Nihil Shop! or at Soundpollution!

Members are:
Henke Palm: Guitars
Daniel Astgren: Drums
Viktor Bergman: Drums
Calle Henriksson: Vocals
Benjamin Vallé: Guitars
Henrik Pripps: Bass

Here are some photos from one of the gigs that Pig Eyes have performed, this is from Lilla Hotellbaren here in Stockholm.

Todays tune "We Are Kings" is taken from the debut album, the video is recorded in Örebro, not the best quality but you get the idea.
