Black Label Society - Ain't No Sunshine When She's Gone

Black Label Society is a heavy metal band from Los Angeles, California formed by Zakk Wylde. The band has, thus far, released nine studio albums, two live albums, two compilation albums, one EP, and three video albums.

On May 3, 2013, it was announced that Black Label Society would be included in the year's installment of Gigantour, along with Megadeth, David Draiman's new band "Device", former Pantera drummer Vinnie Paul Abbot's band Hellyeah, Jason Newsted's own band "Newsted", and upstart band "Death Division"

In August, 2013, after Unblackened single's released through iTunes, Zakk stated that he would begin writing a new studio album, and it would be schedued for a 2014 release

Todays tune is a cover of Bill Withers "Ain't No Sunshine When She's Gone" taken from the live acoustic album "Unblackened". It was recorded live on March 6, 2013 at Club Nokia in Los Angeles. Disc 1 consists on live tracks, and Disc 2 consists also of live tracks among 6 newly recorded songs, which of 3 are re-recordings of previously released songs of Black Label Society's studio albums. The album was announced back in 2012, but was delayed due to the delaying of the show, which was settled to be recorded in August. Black Label Society started the pre-ordering of the album in August 2013, also offering a Deluxe Edition Box Set containing a double live CD pack, a DVD of the show, a replica of Zakk's pewter dagger necklace, a photo book with photos taken from the show and a custom package. On August 9, 2013 "Ain't No Sunshine When She's Gone" was released as a single through iTunes on North America.

"Ain't No Sunshine" is a song by Bill Withers from his 1971 album Just as I Am, produced by Booker T. Jones. The record featured musicians Donald "Duck" Dunn on bass guitar and Al Jackson, Jr. on drums, as well as Withers on lead vocals and guitar. String arrangements were done by Booker T. Jones, and recorded in Memphis by engineer Terry Manning. The song was released as a single in September 1971, becoming a breakthrough hit for Withers, reaching number six on the U.S. R&B chart and number three on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Newsted - Soldierhead

Former Metallica man Jason Newsted is standing on his own and ready for a solo career. Late last year he announced the launch of his official website for information on his projects. In addition to his new project sounds absolutely brilliant, it's heavy, melodic and hard, I became interested in his creative talent, proved that this man is a devil to paint

From 1986 until 2001, Jason Newsted was the bassist for heavy metal band Metallica. During the 1990s, he met drummer Jesus Mendez Jr., who helped out at the Metallica headquarters and later served as a drum tech on a tour for Newsted's former musical group Echobrain. In the late 2000s, Newsted met guitarist Jessie Farnsworth; the trio began working on music and writing songs. Newsted began writing songs on software application GarageBand in August 2012, before giving them Mendez Jr. and Farnsworth to learn. In October 2012, the band began recording songs at Newsted's home studio called Chophouse Studio; they later recorded another set of songs in December 2012. The band recorded a total of eleven songs which they plan to release during the first six months of 2013.

While recovering from his shoulder injury, Newsted found solace through painting. Newsted has turned out a number of large original works of art over the last half a decade. Jason Newsted says that he went "from making crazy and colorful music to making crazy and colorful paintings." His first gallery show opened on May 4, 2010 at Micaëla Gallery in San Francisco.

Newsted's first exhibition of original art will be held May 6 - June 27, 2010 at Micaëla Gallery (49 Geary Street, No. 234) in San Francisco, California.

Commented Newsted: "I am possessed by an undercurrent of kinetic energy that I have channeled through pure artistic creation for as long as I can remember, beginning with childhood drawings and songs, followed by teenage rock and roll based ideas, and ultimately, internationally recognized musical recordings and live performances.

"With the title of most decorated heavy metal bass guitarist of all time intact, my purpose has shifted from making crazy and colorful music, to making crazy and colorful paintings.

"I remain as disciplined, self-motivated, and dedicated to my art, as I have been. It is time for me to climb the next mountain, retaining purity by way of genuine expression in creating art as my quest."

Newsted's paintings express raw visual energy. He uses rich color and an expressive manner to translate his characteristic intensity into hard-hitting paintings.

Here are some of his art, check the video below for a live view of his art. Newsted's paintings express raw visual energy. He uses rich color and an expressive manner to translate his characteristic intensity into hard-hitting paintings.

Speaking on Nikki Sixx’s radio show Newsted says: “One of the most important things in life – but especially when we do this kind of accelerated lifestyle – is when to say when.”

He’d become a Metallica member just 25 days after the bus crash that killed Burton, and seven days after that he embarked on his first world tour with them. Asked if it was a “massive amount of stress” he replies: “So much. On everybody: 22-23-year-old kids, metalheads, all dress the same, act the same, feel the same, drink the same. We didn’t know about the grieving process.”

Listen to this interview with Jason and Nikki Sixx below, it's a interesting story to listen to.

Todays tune "Soldierhead" is taken from the debut EP "Metal" by heavy metal band Newsted, The EP was released on January 8, 2013, under Newsted's own record label Chophouse Records. The EP was recorded at Newsted's own home studio, Chophouse Studio in Walnut Creek, California.
