Deep Purple - Ted The Mechanic

Heya!

As you may saw yesterday Deep Purple was at Getaway Festival.
Awesome to see em again.
Ian Gillan had even a better voice than last time I saw him, it was a ball.
Me and my friend Fredde was Ian's G Spot operators. Purples Light Designer was a guy
that really had his lights in control and he was a perfectionist.
It really was a dream to do the lightning for him,  I just love to do a spotlight with a great leader behind it.

The Deep Purple crew wanted to do a full show and the festival manage to get em to play 30 minutes earlier. The other band on the middle stage wasent disturbed of it, as it was so far away from it.

Deep Purple was my second favvo band next Black Sabbath. I really liked "Smoke On the Water" back then, then I got another favvo tune, this is what i choosed today.

Ian Gillan - Gethsemane

Sunday, classics time, today we continue in the musical theme, although we put more edgy touch to the song.

Original version of this all time musical classic. Deep Purple’s Ian Gillan played the role of Jesus and his interpretation of this immortal cut defined all the upcoming ones. When this work was recorded, Deep Purple weas on the top of the musical world, so Ian was unable to join the plays in Broadway, nor film the 1973 movie. Ted Neeley replaced him, he did awesome and was the known face of this Jesus, but that was his only achievement. Ian Gillan is part of rock history and his name is written with golden letters on the bible of rock.

The Musical, or should we say the rock opera "Jesus Christ Superstar" is made by Andrew Lloyd Webber with lyrics by Tim Rice. The musical started as a rock opera concept recording before its first staging on Broadway in 1971. The musical is based very loosely on the Gospels' accounts of the last week of Jesus' life, beginning with the preparation for the arrival of Jesus and his disciples in Jerusalem and ending with the crucifixion. It highlights political and interpersonal struggles between Judas Iscariot and Jesus, struggles that are not in the Bible. The resurrection is not included. It therefore largely follows the form of a traditional passion play.

Todays tune "Gethsemane" taken from the rock opera "Jesus Christ Superstar", Ted Neeley's 1973 version but with the voice of Ian Gillan. Holy moses, what a version!

Another bonus, Peter Jöback - I love musicals - Gethsemane Live from Globen, Stockholm 20.10.2012, poor video, but you can still hear that Peter's version is pretty awsome.

Deep Purple - Hallelujah

Sunday, time for a classic tune!

Deep Purple 2:nd lineup’s breakthrough wasn't as overnight as that of for the 1:st, but had a much more lasting impact when it came. Episode Six bandmates Ian Gillan and Roger Glover joined in secrecy. Gillan exemplified the kind of powerful and vocally agile singer that the band sought to develop their harder rock sound. Glover came along at first on a session basis, but quickly impressed with his natural grasp of writing, and was snapped up to complete the new Deep Purple.

The first ”Deep Purple” single from the 2:nd lineup or the 5th in order, 'Hallelujah', was very much as a first lineup throwback, and disappeared without trace (as had all Deep Purple's UK singles to that point). The line-up's first live gig was in front of a tiny audience at London's Speakeasy Club on July 10th. Inspired by their live chemistry, and with the quality of the music being written, the band gigged intensely in the UK and mainland Europe over the next 12 months, gaining an almighty live reputation. Their profile was also raised (if not in the way they all hoped for) by a performance of Jon Lord's rock / orchestral crossover 'Concerto For Group & Orchestra' at London's Albert Hall in September 1969, a piece that the rest of the band only came to appreciate in later years when it was no longer seen as a threat to their hard rock direction. A live album of the night was also their first top 30 UK chart entry, and the show was broadcast on BBC TV.
