Kadavar - For The Dead Travel Fast

New week, time to introduce "Record Of The Week"

The three-piece psychedelic rockers KADAVAR is back again with their fifth record "For The Dead Travel Fast", entitled after German gothic poet Gottfried August Bürger.

As always with KADAVAR is a great time to let the beast loose on the turntable, what do they have in their luggage on this creation and what is lurking in the corner this time, the expectations are pretty high as the latest album releases have had a very high quality and a cruel end product.

Here the lads take us out on a perilous journey into the land of the dead, a foray into the bleakest corners of our minds. The spooky album cover is taken in front of Dracula’s alleged crib in Transylvania, mysterious Castle Bran, the whole album is drenched in superstition, Romanian folklore and the mysterious ways of our psyche.

"For The Dead Travel Fast" have almost everything from clear singles (7") like "The Devil’s Master" and the tango rocker "Dancing With The Dead", both catchy rockers with a great swing where you will get a true euphoria after a few mins. The beautiful upbeat and energetic "Evil Forces" to vibrant soundtracks tunes like "Children Of The Night" and "Demons In My Mind" where synth and modulation seek out from the shadows like a small mist in early mornings. The album ends with two ballads, the atmospheric slow-paced "Saturnales" and the beauty bluesy "Long Forgotten Song" that have a small drum solo in the end, wicked, but it works out well here.

Christoph “Lupus” Lindemann (vocals, guitars, synthesizers), Christoph “Tiger” Bartelt (drums) and Simon “Dragon” Bouteloup (bass) have fully embraced the darkness that has been kept at bay in recent years. That old horror soundtracks and Werner Herzog’s ‘Dracula’ had a huge impact on this album can be heard in this concept piece or art, with longer, more embellished songs not particularly drawn to ordinary song structures. They have reached a new level of artistry and creative injection, to boldly go where they never went before, only to rediscover their very roots along the way. It's fascinating that they keep such a high class from album to album, magic is everywhere...as they repeatedly say in "Suspiria"? Now five strong albums into their stellar career and I can only clap my hands to the lads with BIG FREAKING WELL DONE.

"For The Dead Travel Fast" was released by Nuclear Blast Records on October 11, 2019

Sum: 70's psychedelic horror rock at it's best, you absolutely need this!

Dracula - Queen of the Dead

The Norwegian master singer Jorn Lande takes the help of his old friend, guitarist Trond Holter, together they undertake DRACULA with both garlic and silver bullets and makes a grandiose rock opera. "

This exciting concept album was inspired by the life of Count Vlad the III, Prince of Wallachia, widely known as Vlad, The Impaler or by his patronymic name Vlad Dracul(a). The whole story explores the inner struggle inside the multifaceted and engorging character that this mysterious 15th Century personality was, while also taking into account some of the metaphysical aspects that passed into literature, forming the whole basis of the vampire mythos.

Jorn Lande – who impersonates Dracula, is the main character of the album and the female parts are sung by Norwegian singer Lena Fløitmoen (representing Mina/Lucy from the Bram Stoker book). The drama of the story reveals Dracula’s inner battle, where he still remembers what true love was, and as he wandered the Earth for centuries with a thirst for blood, his loneliness and desire to be able to love again has led him to the brink of insanity. In the original Bram Stoker version, he leaves Transylvania by ship and when he meets Lucy's best friend, she reminds him so much of his first love Mina, that he becomes obsessed. His mission is to take her as his bride, and make her Queen of the dark.

Musically, “Swing of Death” is not like a typical rock opera or musical, since it has no storyteller or too many long instrumental parts and intros. It is an album that gets to the point with no detours and even if it exposes some diverse musical landscapes, it does include catchy and melodic songs with commercial radio potential. Vocally this release gives you everything from Jorn Lande’s past extensive catalogue all in one album. Jorn’s ability to be innovative and original while at the same time showing where his roots came from, is truly unique.

Jorn and Trond’s musical influence when creating this epic masterpiece came mostly from 70’s era Meat Loaf, Queen, Alice Cooper, plus some other Classic and more contemporary Hard Rock elements. All mixed together with their own modern musical heavy rock style, Dracula “Swing of death” is something extraordinary. The lyrics are not limited to the old days of Bram Stoker’s era and could easily be a Dracula story of today.

Todays tune "Queen of the Dead" is the second single taken from "Swing Of Death".

Dracula - Walking On Water

The Norwegian master singer Jorn Lande takes the help of his old friend, guitarist Trond Holter, together they undertake Dracula with both garlic and silver bullets and makes a grandiose rock opera.

My friend "Cheif Rebel Angel" has drawn attention to this release and made a great review of it, read it here! I really like his way of describing how he experiences a record. It may very well be due to how similar we are, in many ways, even if he is drawn to the tougher sound and I to the more dirtier sound, do we meet very often. One thing that he points out is that the guitar playing sometimes sounds like Gary Moore, which I can only agree on, it sounds much like Gary Moore, especially when I heard this song, If I did not know before who it was, I would probably have guessed that it was Gary Moore who played guitar on this track.

This exciting concept album was inspired by the life of Count Vlad the III, Prince of Wallachia, widely known as Vlad, The Impaler or by his patronymic name Vlad Dracul(a). Bernt Jansen: Bass
Per Morten Bergseth: Drums
Lena Fløitmoen: Lead and Background Vocals on “Save Me”; “River of Tears”, “Into the Dark”, “Under the Gun”, plus background vocals on “Swing of Death”

Todays tune "Walking On Water" taken from Jorn Lande and Trond Holter's Dracula “Swing of Death. This sounds very promising, Jorn sings magically!! The album release is set to January 23rd in Europe and January 27th in North America.
