Heavy Water - Red Brick City

HEAVY WATER, which features SAXONS Biff Byford and his son Seb Byford, are to release their debut album "Red Brick City" on July 23rd 2021 via Silver Lining Music. The album features ten songs and takes you on a journey through influences and invention, which has you hooked from the first note.

That rock and singing runs in the family is clear in the Byford camp, both the heavy metal father Biff with a marvelous vocals along with his son that also posses the gift as a brilliant singer Byford Junior is.

"Red Brick City" is very obviously the product of lockdown frustration, an album that turned out to be a great output, nothing lightweight about these songs, nor anything frivolous or throwaway about its sound.

Slathered in classic Rock ‘n’ Roll soul and soaked in gritty, hard-baked riffs, and topped off with rich, raunchy vocals… Welcome to HEAVY WATER and their debut album "Red Brick City".

The foundations for HEAVY WATER’s sound are set in both that incredible father/son chemistry and a lifetime of know-how and experiences. Take the title track -and first single- "Red Brick City": all steam and smoulder wrapped around a riff SOUNDGARDEN would’ve been proud of.

“We decided to do something together in these dark times and the family came together to help get this album off the ground” explained Seb and Biff.

Seb Byford recorded and engineered "Red Brick City" at the Big Silver Barn in York, UK, while the drums were recorded by Ben Hammond at Reel Recording Studio in York. Seb produced the album with Biff, and Jacky Lehmann mastered. "Red Brick City" sees Seb take the reins on guitar and vocals, with Biff taking up the bass and vocal mantle. Tom Witts plays the drums, while Dave Kemp rounds out the Heavy Water line-up on keyboards and saxophone. A rich, lustrous ride through profoundly rewarding rock waters. To cap off this family affair, the packaging photos were taken by Steph Byford.

“We had great fun doing this album, working together on the songs and recording during lockdown,” concluded Biff and Seb. “It’s all recorded without samples or profiles... just loud and proud!”

Today's tune "Red Brick City" it the title tune from this album, enjoy!

Biff Byford - Scarborough Fair

"School Of Hard Knocks", is the first solo album of legendary SAXON's frontman Biff Byford, the album was released in February this year. Biff has released a video for the tune "Scarborough Fair" taken from his debut solo album, see it below. The tune is a bit odd, not the common thing that you have heard, so check it out.

"School of Hard Knocks" is available to buy now at: http://hyperurl.co/SchoolOfHardKnocks

The English North is everything you saw in Game of Thrones and more. It is the true heart of England, the region where its soul resides, and Biff Byford has earned the right to be considered its true heavy metal bard.

In his first-ever solo album, Biff takes on not just tales and stories from his heart and soul, but also investigates the Middle Ages and Medieval history amongst other subjects.

"School Of Hard Knocks" was produced by Biff Byford, recorded by Jacky Lehmann at Brighton Electric Studios in Brighton (UK) and mixed at Queen Street Studios in Stockholm (Sweden) by Mats Valentin. The album also features guest appearances by Phil Campbell (MOTÖRHEAD/Phil Campbell & The Bastard Sons), Alex Holzwarth (RHAPSODY OF FIRE, TURILLI / LIONE RHAPSODY), Nick Barker (VOICES), Dave Kemp (WAYWARD SONS) and Nibbs Carter (SAXON).

On "School Of Hard Knocks", Byford worked with Fredrik Åkesson (OPETH) on guitars, Christian Lundqvist on drums and Gus Macricostas on bass (Biff himself played a spot of four-string thunder too!).

Enjoy today's tune!

The Scintilla Project - Beware The Children

"Scintilla" a science fiction thriller, is set deep underground in the wilds of a former Soviet state where strange genetic experiments are taking place. A war-weary mercenary is hired to lead a company scientist to the secret underground laboratory and with his team of mercenaries to steal the research in the laboratory. Along the way, the good people face dangerous militia involved in a bloodthirsty civil war, strange monsters lurking in the abandoned tunnels of the old Soviet bunker and finally they meet the scientist running the genetic experiments and her terrifying secret.

The film has inspired a newly formed supergroup "The Scintilla Project", fronted by "Saxon's" own Biff Byford which have released the album "The Hybrid", featuring songs inspired by the film. Select tracks on the record are co-produced by acclaimed British producer Andy Sneap, who also plays guitar on these tracks.

Biff Byford states: "I was introduced to Lionel Hicks by Toby Jepson while recording "Call To Arms". This was leading "Saxon" to write a song for the Lionel Hicks-produced film 'Scintilla'. As the film developed through production, our minds began working — maybe we could put together a concept album based on and inspired by the film. While I was having a break from writing with "Saxon", Lionel Hicks, Anthony Ritchie (both "Balance Of Power"), and I decided that I would produce and also sing on the album. I brought in Andy Sneap to co-produce and play guitar on some tracks."

The Scintilla Project is:

Biff Byford (vocals)
Lionel Hicks (drums)
Anthony Ritchie (bass)
Andy Sneap (guitar)

Todays tune "Beware The Children" is taken from the album "The Hybrid".

Avantasia - Sleepwalking

Avantasia is a heavy metal/hard rock supergroup project created by Tobias Sammet, vocalist of the band Edguy. Avantasia is often referred to as a rock opera, as it features the participation of many renowned vocalists and musicians.

The project's title is a portmanteau of the words "avalon" and "fantasia" ("fantasy") and describes "a world beyond human imagination" (a quotation from the booklet).

The project consists of three different installments. The first is a self-titled single and two full-length albums with the subtitle The Metal Opera. The second consists of the EPs Lost in Space Part I & II and the The Wicked Trilogy, composed of the albums The Scarecrow, The Wicked Symphony and Angel of Babylon. The third installment begins with the full-length album The Mystery of Time.

Todays tune "Sleepwalking", from their upcoming album "The Mystery Of Time", out on March 29th.

The videoclip was produced by Oliver Sommer

Sleepwalking, also known as somnambulism or noctambulism, is a sleep disorder belonging to the parasomnia family. Sleepwalkers arise from the slow wave sleep stage in a state of low consciousness and perform activities that are usually performed during a state of full consciousness. These activities can be as benign as sitting up in bed, walking to the bathroom, and cleaning, or as hazardous as cooking, driving, violent gestures, grabbing at hallucinated objects, or even homicide.

Although generally sleepwalking cases consist of simple, repeated behaviours, there are occasionally reports of people performing complex behaviours while asleep, although their legitimacy is often disputed. In 2004, sleep medicine experts in Australia claimed to have successfully treated a woman who claimed to have sex with strangers in her sleep. In December 2008, reports were published of a woman who sent semi-coherent emails while sleepwalking, including one inviting a friend around for dinner and drinks. Sleepwalkers often have little or no memory of the incident, as their consciousness has altered into a state in which it is harder to recall memories. Although their eyes are open, their expression is dim and glazed over. Sleepwalking may last as little as 30 seconds or as long as 30 minutes.
