"Alex Chilton" is a song by American rock band THE REPLACEMENTS from their fifth studio album "Pleased To Meet Me". The song is a homage to Alex Chilton, lead singer of THE BOX TOPS and BIG STAR. Chilton was a guest musician on "Pleased To Meet Me", playing guitar on the song "Can't Hardly Wait".
The song is available as a playable track on the music video game Rock Band 2. The song is also heard in the background of the bachelor party scene in season 1, episode 3 of Psych.
THE REPLACEMENTS were an American rock band formed in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in 1979. Initially a punk rock band, they are considered one of the pioneers of alternative rock. The band was composed of the guitarist and vocalist Paul Westerberg, guitarist Bob Stinson, bass guitarist Tommy Stinson and drummer Chris Mars for most of its career. Following several acclaimed albums, including "Let It Be" and "Tim", Bob Stinson was kicked out of the band in 1986, and Slim Dunlap joined as lead guitarist. Steve Foley replaced Mars in 1990. Towards the end of the band's career, Westerberg exerted more control over the creative output. The group disbanded in 1991, with the members eventually pursuing various projects. The band is referred to by their nickname "The 'Mats" by fans, which originated as a truncation of "The Placemats," a mispronunciation of their name.

The making of "Pleased To Meet Me" was a transformative journey for THE REPLACEMENTS, one that began with the combustible Minneapolis combo on the brink of collapse and culminated in one of the definitive albums of the band’s career. That transformation is chronicled in-depth on the group’s latest release.
More than half of the music (29 of the 55 tracks) on this Deluxe Edition set has never been released, including demos, rough mixes, and outtakes as well as Bob Stinson’s last recordings with The Replacements from 1986.
The music is presented in a 12 x 12 hardcover book loaded with dozens of rarely seen photos along with a detailed history of the Pleased To Meet Me era written by Bob Mehr, who authored The New York Times bestseller, Trouble Boys: The True Story of the Replacements. Mehr, together with Rhino’s Jason Jones, produced this new collection.
Very massive and a wonderful addition to the collection for THE REPLACEMENTS fans.
