Mdou Moctar - Chismiten

Mdou Moctar immediately stands out as one of the most innovative artists in contemporary Saharan music. His unconventional interpretations of Tuareg guitar and have pushed him to the forefront of a crowded scene. Mdou shreds with a relentless and frenetic energy that puts his contemporaries to shame.

A once-in-a-generation artist backed by an unstoppable rhythm section, Mdou’s music has roots in both traditional Tuareg melodicism and Eddie Van Halen’s daredevil majesty. Mdou Moctar is a popular wedding performer and sings about Islam, education, love, and peace in Tamasheq. He plays a left-handed Fender Stratocaster guitar in a takamba and assouf style. He is originally from Abalak and has also lived in Tchintabaraden and Libya

Today's tune "Chismiten", the white-hot ripper that will kick off an expansive new full-length due to hit down later this year. The tune is fantastic, let it loose and dream away. “The song is about how people in a relationship lose their sense of self, they become jealous and envious of others,” explains Mdou. “It is not about one specific person, but about all people in the world. I turn to Allah for guidance not to be that person.” The tune was released October 7, 2020
