John Mayall - Vacation

Today, we take a little vacation, that means there will be no record of the week today, there will be no Tune Of The Day tomorrow, because we are on a beach and soaks in the sun and maybe sipping on a juicy umbrella drink, relaxing and reading a book, listening to some good music and paint a little.

We are back again in a few weeks when the steam is returned, the bodies are really tanned, plenty of mosquito bites and a network that works.

Have a super great summer everyone and see you again soon, rock on!

In closing, we need some tones that suites in with this, so why not some lovely Blues with John Mayall.

Todays tune "Vacation" is taken from his 1968 album "Blues from Laurel Canyon" It was his first album after the breakup of his band the Bluesbreakers on 14 July 1968. It was also his last album with Decca before moving to Polydor.

Demon - Dont Break The Circle

To continue on today's post with "Record Madness" and we'll pick a song and video from the albums that were displayed, and it's Sunday so it may be a classic.

Demon is an English rock/metal group, formed in 1979 by vocalist Dave Hill and guitarist Mal Spooner, both hailing from Leek, Staffordshire. They are considered an important band in the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. The original line-up was completed by Les Hunt (Lead guitar), Chris Ellis (bass guitar) and John Wright (drums). The band were signed by Mike Stone's Clay Records in 1980 and licensed to Carrere Records to join their stable of metal bands. Their debut album, Night of the Demon, was released in 1981.

After their 1982 follow-up album, The Unexpected Guest, the band experimented beyond the NWOBHM sound and moved the band in a more melodic direction whilst still retaining the more traditional heavy metal black magic lyrical style.

Todays tune is a theatrical performance of "Dont Break the circle" and "Father of Time". The video clip is taken from The Unexpected Guest Tour, Live at Tiffany's 1982.

Record Madness: D

Record Madness is a project between Metal blog and Tune Of The Day, a project that have now been running for some time.

In short, its based on a closer look at our record collection, and the rules are relatively simple.

There will be challenges between us. Everything is about to dive into the shelf and pick up the records with the letter which you have been challenged with. One tells stories, shows pictures, a little anecdotes, or anything that affects the character that is current at the moment. The posts ends with a challenge in the form of a letter from the alphabet sent to Chief Rebel on Metal blog. Then he makes the same thing with his record shelf (hey CD!) But with his twist and his angle on it before he sends back a letter. Then it all goes back and forth like a pinball machine, but in slow motion.

Everything started with "Chief Rebel" who dived into the letter "A", and wrote a mammoth post with lots of pictures of what was in his record shelf under the letter A. Then he has described what he has under "R","G", "U" and now latest "S" (ARGUS) - Like the album title of Wishbone Ash third album from 1972.

Now we have come up a bit in the process and I have harvested both the letter "L", "Q", "B", "U" and today we'll see what is hidden behind the letter "D"(LQBUD) <-- br="" bud="" light="" nbsp="">
Alright let's get it going. "D" a pretty big letter, that contains a lot of classics and some new stuff, "D" has the perfect standing height in the record shelf, almost bull's-eye, in other words, like the first place where your hand touches in before you figured out what you really are looking for. Once I have browsed through the albums, it is just like some other letters, are a lot of holes to fill in. For example, I have more records that I need for this letter and there is some few that I don't have that I would love to get my hands on.

As the end of this record Madness, we see a picture with a bunch of picks on the letter D, a little hobby I have.
Can you see which band it is?

I really hope I got it all now, but have I missed one or two images, so be it.
That was it, a rich entrie, with a pretty wide spectrum of music, one sees that there are a lot of holes of course that must be filled in, things that I have to work on.
Anyway, I hope it was an interesting reading.

Now we throw the ball to Cheif and challenge him in the letter "T",
will probably be a little less vigorous summer reflection, may well be a lot of candy there, who knows, eg Testament?

Todays tune will be posted later on this evening, based on the letter "D" of course.

Cheers
