Avatarium - Avatarium

Number 6 on Tune Of The Days best album list of year 2013 is Leif Edling's new project Avatarium and the selftitled album.

It is a beautifully balanced blend of lush melodies and heavy riffs, where doom rock gets a new side by a feminine beauty of the talented singer Jennie Ann Smith.

The crushing doom of Candlemass may be prevalent through the album, but Avatarium’s 60s / 70s feel is also trippy, with a creepy and haunting vibe that makes space for moments of beautiful tranquility before pummeling you with surgically precise riffs of sheer Edling brilliance. Foremost among Avatarium’s not so secret weapons are the haunting vocals of Jennie-Ann Smith — they infuse the introspective, quiet passages with goosebump-inducing emotional power, and propel the heavier moments into a cathartic juggernaut of inspired doom intensity.

Leprous - Coal

Number 7 on Tune Of The Days best album list of year 2013 is the Norwegian progressive band, Leprous with their latest release. Coal is perhaps one of the year's most temperamental album, a very well made with expertly tight songwriting, a little dark, melancholic and unnerving. A highly varied and natural record.

Todays tune "The Cloak" is taken from the third studio album "Coal", released on 20 May 2013. The music is arranged by the whole band and also the lyrics are the work of all the band. Art direction and design by Ritxi Ostáriz. Cover painting by Jeff Jordan.

Persefone - Spiritual Migration

Number 8 on Tune Of The Days best album list of year 2013 is a fine example of modern melodic death. This obscure progressive death metal band from the little-known country of Andorra can make an impact like this is amazing. With great complex guitar harmonies executed with precision hits my heart. A band that no one should be allowed to pass unheard or lose it to disappear in the noise.

Todays tune "Mind As Universe" is taken from the album Spiritual Migration. Documentary video of their tour in China on June 2013.
