Amalie Bruun, best known as MYRKUR has always paved her own path, challenging underground preconceptions of heavy metal ever since the release of her debut "Myrkur" EP in 2014. Her first two full-length studio albums, 2015’s "M" and 2017’s "Mareridt", recast black metal in the most personal yet expansive of terms, their blending of Amalie’s Danish folk roots with tempestuous internal struggles breathing new life into a subgenre whose followers can be rigidly possessive.
"Folkesange", will be a journey “into the heart of Scandinavian culture”. "Folkesange" will launch on March 20 through Relapse Records and is said to relinquish “black metal for a refined yet far-reaching evocation of traditional folk, combining songs ancient and new to sublimely resonant effect.”
Today's tune "Ella" is the result of years of studying, playing and listening to traditional Nordic folk music, says Amalie Bruun, she also adds “This is my version of a new folk-song, with roots planted in history and in the past. It is my ode to mankind and our connection with nature – a rite of passage as a woman and a rebirth-ritual in the sea". Enjoy!
Danish composer, vocalist and classically trained multi-instrumentalist MYRKUR unveils two ethereal new studio tracks with producer Jaime Gomez Arellano (GHOST, PARADISE LOST).
MYRKUR is Amalie Bruun. The new EP Juniper is made at Orgone Studios in Bedfordshire, England. The album's B-Side, "Bonden og Kragen", is a solo reinterpretation of a traditional Danish folk song from the 1600s. Together, both tracks exquisitely display MYRKURs eclectic sound and captivating personality. A limited edition of the 7" will coincide with the digital release, December 7th on Relapse Records.
Today's tune is the stirring video for the record's title tune. Shot on 16mm film, the clip combines a wide-eyed and in-your-face performance by Bruun, woven into scenes featuring a small, blonde girl in various woodland settings. She holds a dead bird, stroking its lifeless body as if trying to bring the creature back to life. An onslaught of deathly images focused on the entrails and corpses of deceased animals follows, ending on a peaceful note as the girl sleeps, seemingly safely, in her bed.

SÓLSTAFIR have released a new video for their tune "Hula". The song features on the Icelandic outfit’s sixth studio album "Berdreyminn", which arrived in May this year.
The video was directed by Harri Haataja and cinematographer Vesa Ranta and was filmed in Lithuania.
The band tell the magazine Prog: "When we were on the road in 2013, we came across this place called Hill Of Crosses in Lithuania. At the time, we just knew that we would have to shoot a video there one day".
“We developed a good working relationship with Vesa and Harri back in 2015 with the Miðaftann video, and since they are both living in Finland, it seemed a good idea to send them over with the boat from Finland with the camera and help us fulfil this dream of ours.”
Haataja adds: “This time we set out to do a video for Sólstafir outside of Iceland. Aðalbjörn Tryggvason had this beautiful location at Hill Of Crosses in mind and we thought that it would fit perfectly for this clip".
“We also found a couple of other great locations suitable for the story and aesthetic that we had in mind for our video.”
SÓLSTAFIR will head out on tour across Europe from next month, with MYRKUR and ÁRSTÍÓIR joining them on select dates, see all the dates below.
