Civic - Future Forecast

Monday, new week, time to introduce "Record Of The Week".

“Future Forecast” is the new album from the Melbourne Garage Punks CIVIC. Led by charismatic frontman Jim McCullough, the five-piece offer a high-octane adrenaline rush with an melodic sound that shakes you off. Think THE STOOGES mixed up with SOCIAL DISTORTION and you will get CIVIC.

Jim McCullough, Lewis Hodgson, Darcy Grigg, Roland Hlavka and David Forcier

"Future Forecast", really do not save on gunpowder, already from the opening riffs on "Radiant Eye" you taste and smell the smoke from the newly fired gun. A punker with that little extra is shown half way when a ripe of saxophone salvos hit the stage, marvelous! And hey, the battle aint over, full throttle forward we go in "Another Day". The power pop twinkle hook in the "As Seen On Tv" really gives the tune some extra flavor. Something similar can be heard on "Clone". The catchy punker "Just A Fix", guitar driven "Tell The Papers" have a great sing along chrous. Marvlous driving bass lick intro in "Sunday Best" that has a bit of a different approach where the native V****A BOYS comes in mind, I just love this one! The dirty and heavy "Shake Like Death" shows an more angry side of "Spit and Cutter". "Back To You" have a more classic punk feel and also offers a cool guitar solo. The classic feel continues in "Hollywood Nights In Hamburg". The album ends with wonderfully screaming guitars in the IGGY POP flavor "Come To Know". This is an brilliand Australian Garage Punk Rock and Roll that I hightly recomend to check up.

"Future Forecast" was released March 26, 2021, sadly no distro for EU/UK yet, but you can get it from Flightless Records, https://flightlessrecords.com/

Sum: "Future Forecast" is exactly the album you need right now to shake up some things that bother you!

Today's tune "Radiant Eye", taken from "Future Forecast", enjoy!

Psyko Blasfemi - Psyko Blasfemi

PSYKO BLASFEMI is a young and promising garage punk band with a lot of inspiration from a good many older heroes in bands like MISFITS, SEX PISTOLS and THE STOOGES.

PSYKO BLASFEMI is:
On guitar: Kornelius Særheim Orre
On bass: John East Aniksdal
On drums: Ørjan Tellevik
On vocals: Martin Sørmarken Håland

These lads are hailing from Bryne, Norway and have been playing together since the spring of 2017. With a I got some rockabilly vibes, mix with thrash, punk and hard rock. I've heard a little that they may have struggled a bit to find their niche in the music,

Today's tune "Pysko Blasfemi" is taken from their self titled 5 track EP, the video is filmed live at Tunghørt 13.10.2018 - Folken

Warish - Fight

Southern California trio WARISH released their debut EP on RidingEasy Records via Brooklyn Vegan earlier this year.

Imagine if Incesticide era NIRVANA were crossed with Static Age era MISFITS. You’d have sinister low budget horror rock with a visceral, twisted weirdness and bludgeoning riffs. Some might call it nightmarish, we call it WARISH.

WARISH is a very newly minted SoCal trio formed in early 2018 that has wasted no time making its presence known. The band formed when guitarist/vocalist Riley Hawk and drummer Bruce McDonnell decided they wanted to try their hand at something more distinct than they’d done previously.

“We wanted to do simpler riffs and a fun live show,” Riley explains. “A little more punk, a little bit of grunge… a little evil-ish.”

Their sound takes cues from a variety of cool underground sounds and twists it all into an energetic and exciting fist to the face of dark fury. Hawk’s effect-laden vocals hearken to early BUTTHOLE SURFERS and David Yow’s tortured caterwaul in Scratch Acid. The guitars are heavy and powerful, though decidedly not straightforward cookie-cutter punk; more like Cobain’s and Buzz Osbourne’s wiry contortions. The rhythms bash and pummel right through it all with aggressive force ensuring that nothing gets overly complicated and the horrors keep coming throughout the 5-track, 11-minute debut.

Enjoy "Fight" from WARISH new debut EP.

Sudakistan - Two Steps Back

The Stockholm based quintet SUDAKISTAN return with their second album "Swedish Cobra", again fusing their own brand of psychedelia infused rock with latino rhythms. It’s the follow-up to their acclaimed debut LP from 2015, "Caballo Negro", which was hailed as a mixture of THEE OH SEES and DEATH FROM ABOVE 1979, and released to rave reviews from the likes of Classic Rock, Uncut, The Line of Best Fit and KEXP.

Recorded at Studio Rymden, Stockholm in May and August 2017. Produced and mixed by Daniel Bengtsson, mastered by Christopher Göthberg. Artwork by Ragnar Persson. "Swedish Cobra" captures the band’s chaotic but focused live shows, showcasing a broader and more mature sound while losing none of the urgency.

Today's tune "Two Steps Back" is taken from the second LP, "Swedish Cobra", released worldwide September 7th.

V**gra Boys - Street Worms

Monday, new week, time to introduce "Record Of The Week".

"Street Worms" is the debut album by the Swedish and Stockholm based garage punk band with uncontrolled horns. V**GRA BOYS (or V**gra Boys, as they’re referred to in spam filter-evading emails) have an anthem for that. "Street Worms" was released on Sept. 28 via YEAR0001.

The record was produced by Daniel Fagerström (SKULL DEFEKTS, CHRONIC HEIST) and Pelle Gunnerfeldt (FIRESIDE, THE HIVES).

"Street Worms" is a twisted jazzy post-punk story about worms, sports and sneaky things in the basement, makes the album a really fun ride, an album about illusions of realness, the absurdum of existence and the joke on humanity, where the music is like a matchmaker between NINE INCH NAILS with Iggy Pop behind the microphone and the electronic synth-poppers DEVO with SPARKS sprinkles on the top.

The album opens up with a sneaky husband that got fetish about latex thrills in "Down in the Basement", pulsing rhythms, horns and a finger pointing singer that demands the cheating husband to give his wife apology for his shabby way and grow into a real man. "Sports", is an absurd and hilarious parody a particularly American brand of masculinity. The tune is about "Sports" and different types of balls: Baseballs, Basketballs, Volleyballs Ping pong, Beachballs, and Wienerdogs all bounce around the song, emphasized with a relish bubble, a low pitched voice out of frontman Sebastian Murphy. Meanwhile, a mid-pace drum beat and a meaty bassline hold things in order along with a sexy guitar riff. "Best in Show" is a reference about dogs where Murphy barks out and then he gives the dog a snack in the guitar-driven tune "Shrimp Shack". The dark new wave of "Just Like You",  a thick and fat fuzzed bassline and monotone electronic sounds surrounds the vocals to a hypnotic journey about a dream. Guitars, saxophone, and electronic blips are the main things in "Slow Learner" and manic noises and guitar blops in "Frogstrap", both tunes follow the same path in tune building, both with excellent vocals by Murphy and terrific playing by Benke, Benis, Tor, Oskar, and Konie. "Worms" is a half pace tune about worms that will eat you. Great flow with squirming vocals. The album closes with "Amphetanarchy", an instrumental piece with a wonderfully tangled groove, strangled saxophones, jamming drums, true freeform art.

Sum:  Who can "Smoke a joint, eat some meat, scream the name of every single sport you can think of that includes a ball", well V**GRA BOYS.

“It was all a dream, but it was so nice. I had a nice house and such a lovely wife. We had a little dog, such a little dog, it reminded me of a large dog. Just a miniature size. ”

Today's tune "Sports" is taken from the "Street Worms", enjoy today's tune!

The Cramps - Human Fly

Sunday, time for a classic.

"Human Fly" is a tune by the American garage punk band THE CRAMPS, taken from the first 12" EP "Gravest Hits" by compiling both sides of their first two 1978 Vengeance singles, "Surfin' Bird" and "Human Fly", with an added fifth track, a cover version of "Lonesome Town". It was released in July 1979 on Illegal Records and I.R.S. Records. The tracks were all produced by Alex Chilton and recorded at Ardent Studios in Memphis in 1977. The EP's liner notes were credited to "Dr. J.H. Sasfy, Professor of Rockology, American Rock'n'Roll Institute, Washington D.C., U.S.A.". "Gravest Hits" is one of the first records of both the rockabilly revival and the psychobilly genres. The photograph on the back of the original sleeve, of the band in performance, was taken at the Palladium theater in New York.

"Human Fly" appeared in episode 4 of the UK ITV comedy drama series Married Single Other as Clint scaled four floors of a block of flats in Leeds to try to recover his relationship with Abbie. A cover version of the song by Hanni El Khatib also appeared in a Nissan television advertisement. Another cover version was recorded by the Serbian alternative rock band Supernaut on their 2006 album Eli.

THE CRAMPS were an American punk rock band formed in 1976 and active until 2009. The band split after the death of lead singer Lux Interior. Their line-up rotated much over their existence, with the husband-and-wife duo of Interior and lead guitarist and occasional bass guitarist Poison Ivy comprising the only permanent members. The addition of guitarist Bryan Gregory and drummer Pam Balam resulted in the first complete lineup in April 1976.
