Eminem - Walk On Water

Thursday, it's my daughters birthday, she is starting to get old now, time flys fast. She had a few request, clothes, make ups, thai food and Eminem :) Well I guess as a good father and together with her mom we needed to try to do our best to grant her requests. To not brag to much, But I am a very proud parent of this gorgeous child, a kid that really stands up for the family, help out when needed, you know walk the dog, take care of her little sister and once in awhile even the dishes :)

So for today play a tune for her, by request.

"Walk on Water" is a song by American rapper Eminem, released on November 10, 2017. It was released as the lead single from Eminem's ninth solo studio album "Revival" (2017). The song, produced by Rick Rubin and Skylar Grey, features vocals from American singer Beyoncé.

The song started as a hook written by Skylar Grey, who also wrote Eminem's 2010 hit single "Love the Way You Lie". Eminem came across the hook when he was working with Rick Rubin and became enamored of the lyrics. Previously Rubin and Eminem had been discussing the phenomenon of mumble rap, specifically Eminem's frustration with its mainstream popularity, and the hook served as a vehicle for him to vent them. Rubin subsequently played the song for Jay-Z, who was then able to get his wife, Beyoncé, to sing the chorus. Upon the release of the single, Grey tweeted, "This is the song I've been trying to write since age 6. Every time I wrote a song I hoped it would be this good. I am truly proud of everything I've created, but this is the one."

On December 23, 2017, the music video for the song was released exclusively on Apple Music and Eminem's official Vevo channel. It was directed by American director Richard "Rich" Lee, who previously directed Eminem's videos for "Not Afraid", "Rap God", "The Monster" and "Phenomenal". As of January 29, 2018, the video has over 31 million views and 800.000 likes.

The song was first performed by Eminem at the 2017 MTV Europe Music Awards on November 12 with co-producer and writer Skylar Grey on vocals. Both also performed the song on Saturday Night Live on November 18.

Eminem will soon hit the road, see all the tour dates below.

Happy Birthday kiddo, this one is for you, love you, dad!

Yelawolf - Till It’s Gone

Now and then I let my kids participate and influence the choice of song or topic, especially days when the brain is overheated or it is empty of ideas. Although these days are few, so it's very exciting to see what kind of choice it can be. The kids knows what Dad listening to, so sometimes they adapt themselves to please their father :) but it kinda rarely nowadays, usually it is when they have something they want, or there is something we did together that is their idea of theme or tune. Today my youngest have been home with fever so I have spent some time with her and I thought that she could choose one. She told me that "Yellowwolf" is good, so we started to look it up and we found a dude called "YELAWOLF" and we played a few tunes with him and the second one that we played she said, this is the one Dad, take this one. So todays tune is choosed by R.

YELAWOLF or Michael Wayne Atha is an American hip hop recording artist from Gadsden, Alabama. He is currently signed to Shady Records (EMINEMs record label), Interscope Records.

YELAWOLF released his debut album "Radioactive" on November 21, 2011. His second album, "Love Story", was released on April 21, 2015. With "Love Story" YELAWOLF is doing his real breakthrough. The album was described by YELAWOLF as a more passionate album than his debut album. The album's recording process took place primarily in Nashville, Tennessee from 2012 to January 2014. Record production was handled by YELAWOLF, EMINEM, MALAY, WLPWR among others.

It was supported by the singles "Box Chevy V", "Till It's Gone", "Whiskey In a Bottle", "American You", and "Best Friend" (featuring EMINEM).

Todays tune "Till It's Gone" is the second single of the album Love Story, it was released on September 16, 2014 & the music video premiered October 14, 2014, enjoy!

Gil Scott-Heron - I'm New Here

One of the most trenchant voices in American music fell silent yesterday, Friday May 27, with the passing of Gil Scott-Heron.

Reports confirmed that Scott-Heron had died St Luke's Hospital, New York, after becoming sick upon returning from a European trip. His death brought to an end a troubled career that was blighted by personal turmoil and addiction, but which also saw the singer create some of the most influential music of the last 40 years.

In response, Public Enemy's Chuck D stated "RIP GSH...and we do what we do and how we do because of you." on his Twitter account. His UK publisher, Jamie Byng, called him "one of the most inspiring people I've ever met”. On hearing of the death, R&B singer Usher stated "I just learned of the loss of a very important poet...R.I.P., Gil Scott-Heron. The revolution will be live!!”. Richard Russel, who produced Scott-Heron's final studio album, called him a "father figure of sorts to me”. Eminem stated that "He influenced all of hip-hop”.

He was born in Chicago, Illinois, on April 1, 1949, Scott-Heron moved to the Bronx in his teenage years. He grew up immersed in jazz and blues, penning two novels - The Vulture (1970) and Nigger Factory (1972) - as he embarked on his own musical career.

His collaborative efforts with Brian Jackson featured a musical fusion of jazz, blues and soul music, as well as lyrical content concerning social and political issues of the time, delivered in both rapping and melismatic vocal styles by Scott-Heron. The music of these albums, most notably Pieces of a Man and Winter in America in the early 1970s, influenced and helped engender later African-American music genres such as hip hop and neo soul. Scott-Heron's recording work is often associated with black militant activism and has received much critical acclaim for one of his most well-known compositions The Revolution Will Not Be Televised. His poetic style has been influential upon every generation of hip hop since his popularity began. In addition to being widely considered an influence in today's music, Scott-Heron remained active until his death, and in 2010 released his first new album in 16 years, entitled I'm New Here.

Scott-Heron's influence was such that, at the time of writing, a number of musicians began paying tribute to the man and so will we at Tune Of The Day.

He has been described by music writers as "the godfather of rap" and "the black Bob Dylan”. On his influence, a music writer later noted that "Scott-Heron's unique proto-rap style influenced a generation of hip-hop artists”. The Washington Post wrote that "Scott-Heron's work presaged not only conscious rap and poetry slams, but also acid jazz, particularly during his rewarding collaboration with composer-keyboardist-flutist Brian Jackson in the mid- and late ’70s.”

Todays tune is the title track taken from his thirteenth studio album "I'm New Here”. His last studio album in his lifetime, following a period of personal and legal troubles with drug addiction. Primarily a blues and spoken-word album, I'm New Here serves as musical and lyrical departure from Scott-Heron's previous work.

In 2010 he was due to play a gig in Tel Aviv, this attracted criticism from Palestinian groups who stated "Your performance in Israel would be the equivalent to having performed in Sun City during South Africa’s apartheid era... We hope that you will not play apartheid Israel." In response he cancelled the gig.

RIP Gil Scott-Heron!
