Black Oath - Healing Hands Of Time

Today we present the last and eight of all the categories (Best Right Now), taken from the annual hard rock evening that always occur on eve of Twelfth Night.

This is one of the most funniest categories to do, here you get the chance to play something really good that you like and share it to the others and hopefully they will like it. My hand picked tune was "Malstroem" taken from the upcoming fifth album Nucleus by WITCHCRAFT.

Today's tune "Healing Hands Of Time" is a choice made by Robert G (Chief Rebel Angel) by the Superb Italian act BLACK OATH that delivers doom metal out of this world!

Audioslave - Cochise

Sunday, time for a classic.

This Sunday I got influenced by my friend "Chief Rebel Angel" at HeavyMetale. He made a post that goes under the name "Obsessed". The self titled album with AUDIOSLAVE is on the agenda, where he talks about things that occurred and created a memorial inprint in his life, during this time. Very interesting, read it here!

Today's tune "Cochise" is the first single by AUDIOSLAVE for their eponymous debut album released in 2002. The single was released with a white and a black cover. The difference between the two versions besides the covers is that the black version only contains the title song, while the white version contains "We Got the Whip", a live version of "Gasoline", and the music video for "Cochise".

Cochise was the last great American Indian chief to die free and absolutely unconquered. When several members of his family were captured, tortured, and hanged by the U.S. Cavalry, Cochise declared war on the entire Southwest and went on an unholy rampage, a warpath to end all warpaths. He and his warriors drove out thousands of settlers. Cochise the avenger, fearless and resolute, attacked everything in his path with an unbridled fury.

"Cochise" is played in standard E-A-D-G-B-e and B-E-A-D on the guitar and bass respectively. Tom Morello came across the intro riff by accident. He had a guitar on his lap and his delay pedal set to "slap-back" and, while writing notes for a RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE song, he rapidly hit the strings with a pencil. This produced a noise reminiscent of a helicopter. When AUDIOSLAVE recorded this song, Morello did the same thing, with his Digitech Whammy set an octave lower, and using a flat hand to slap the strings. For the opening riff of the song Morello incorporates the helicopter sound on his guitar, while the bassist Tim Commerford plays an open E with a fast strumming technique while using distortion and a Wah pedal; the result of which is Commerford's unique bass sound which is used on the majority of AUDIOSLAVE songs.

AUDIOSLAVE was an American rock supergroup formed in Los Angeles, California, in 2001 and disbanded in 2007. The four-piece band consisted of then-former SOUNDGARDEN lead singer/rhythm guitarist Chris Cornell, and then-former RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE members Tom Morello (lead guitar), Tim Commerford (bass/backing vocals), and Brad Wilk (drums).

The accompanying music video, directed by Mark Romanek and produced by Aris McGarry, shows Chris Cornell on a raised platform, presumably waiting for the other members. Meanwhile, Tom Morello, Tim Commerford, and Brad Wilk drive to the platform in a Chevy pickup. They take an elevator to the top of the platform where they play atop the platform with a barrage of fireworks being shot off in the background. At the end of the video they hug.

The amount of fireworks released during the filming caused nearby residents to report a possible terrorist attack. This video has also been censored in some places, due to the fact that it has a large amount of flashing lights, and could cause epileptic fits with some people. At the beginning of the video "PLAY LOUD" appears on screen.

This video is available as a "director's cut" on the DVD The Work of Director Mark Romanek and has new footage inserted. There is more emphasis on the strobe lighting and fireworks during the video.

Moon Coven - East

Moon Coven is a five piece psychedelic stoner rock band hailing from the town of Jönköping in the southern parts of Sweden.

From the ruins of various bands, Moon Coven was formed in the summer of 2012 with the members

David Leban - Vocals & Guitar,
Fredrik Dahlqvist -Drums,
Axel Ganhammar - Guitar,
Oscar Johansson – Bass & Vocals
Justin Boyesen - Guitar.

After the summer of 2012 the song writing really began and in the beginning of 2013 Moon Coven started recording. After some problems resulting in a break in production Moon Coven’s self – recorded debut EP/Album “Amanita Kingdom” was done 6 months later in June of 2013.

Amanita Kingdom will be released here on Transubstans Records in January of 2014. With its repetitive slow stoner rock riffs and mesmerizing psychedelic vocals. This record that for sure will make its mark in modern stoner history. With their entangling, hypnotic wall of sound, Moon Coven allows the unaware listener to sink into their world of depth. On only these five tracks you can fully appreciate the variety of the band, from the sludgy, droned-out zombie tunes to the harmony and beauty.

Carousel - Jeweler's Daughter

Another track from Chief Rebel Angel's record is the Pittsburgh classic heavy rockers Carousel with the title and opening track off of the 2013 TeePee Records debut full-length album "Jeweler's Daughter".

It’s an album that contains double-guitars feats of Dave Wheeler (also vocals) and Chris Tritschler and the upbeat grooves of bassist Jim Wilson and drummer Jake Leger. Carousel work in a blend of elder denim metal that sits well alongside the overarching natural feel of the album, this is a very enjoyable record.

Conceived in early 2010 by guitarist/vocalist Dave Wheeler and drummer Jake Leger, the band's music incorporates many elements, most notably the harmonized guitar lines of Thin Lizzy, the bombast of Mountain, and the rhythmic propulsion of Diamond Head, Motorhead, and other bands whose names include the word "head". Christened Carousel by drummer Jake, the band went through numerous personnel changes before cementing its lineup with the addition of guitarist Chris "Twiz" Tritschler and bassist Jim Wilson. Carousel has been a mainstay of the Pittsburgh rock scene since its first show in May 2011, sharing the stage with local punk, metal, and rock bands as well as touring acts such as Mount Carmel, Purling Hiss, and Disappears. Soon after the successful self-release of Tears of Stone, their debut 12" EP, Carousel returned to the studio in February 2013 to record a full length. Word of the band spread during the sessions, and Carousel was invited to join the Tee Pee roster.

Entombed - Chief Rebel Angel

Friends, good & evil people - this is the end.
Well, not for Tune Of The Day, but rather for The Rebel Angel Ramblings.
Tomorrow, Stones and Thetania will be back in the coal mine again, slugging out all these wonderful tunes and little golden nuggets of information, and you will be let off the hook.
The posts will start to make sense again, and follow some kind of logic.
Hopefully, you've enjoyed this week, and not lost all interest in TOTD.
I hope not.

Also, I know I promised that we were going to look into some tunes taken from my All-Star Fantasy Band, but...
a) My nick-name is Chief Rebel Angel. If the rebelling angel was cast from heaven and thus invented hell, you just know a guy called the Chief Rebel Angel cannot be trusted.
b) I thought I was going to do it at the time I promised it, but... I just got so carried away with all the other stuff. Perhaps the planning should have been a bit more thought through, but there you go....

So.
Is there a better way to say thanx than letting the almighty ENTOMBED rock away in the song from wich I have stolen the nick-name?
Probably not.
I can't think of one, anyway.
Well.. maybe I can.

It is taken from the Swedish Grammy Awards, and also leads in to the final words of this series.
A bit of a reflection from my side. Some thoughts:

• It is quite difficult to find good quality video material at YouTube, especially if you are looking for something a bit more obscure. in retrospect, all the tunes I have chosen are "safe bets", and you probably know all of them already. Sorry about that..
• It has been FUN! At least for me... :)
• It has been quite a lot of work, perhaps especially as I have not let my own blog Metal! rest during this week... Not the wisest of moves, but then.. perhaps that is not my best charasteristic quality! 

So.
Perhaps we will see each other again, perhaps The Rebel Angel Ramblings will be back. If you want it to, you'll have to say so - especially to the Tune Of The Day guys Stones and Thetania.

Entombed - Chief Rebel Angel

Last Saturday, I made a visit to Debaser to attend the celebration of Sweden Rock Magazine its 100th issue. This evening they unleashed the two bands that voted Sweden's all-time best heavy metal acts "Candlemass" and "Entombed". The magazine number 100 also contains a CD that bands interpret each other.

Can comment briefly that it was two gruesomely good gigs. Both me and Chief Rebel was banging our heads!! Really great to hear live was the interpretations of eash others songs, became a bit magical when both bands were gathered under the same roof. LG was slightly cold, the snot hanging but he drove on like a "Volvo" on stage and gave the impression that nothing can stop me now! Alex Hellids guitar sound was awesome, loud, heavy and powerful. Victor Brandt had the middle position and almost always got stuck on camera. The rest of the band was really tight live so it was a lovely evening indeed.

Today's tune "Chief Rebel Angel", is taken from the seventh full length album "Morning Star", released in January 2002. This Entombed album marked Entombed returning to their more death metal roots. Half of the "Chief Rebel Angel"'s lyrics are quotes from The Devil's Advocate film :) Todays clip is taken from Swedish Grammys awards when the band performed with the Stockholm Royal Ballet.
