Hällas - Conundrum

Monday, time to introduce "Record Of The Week".

"Conundrum" is the third and final part of the album trilogy of the Swedish rock quintet HÄLLAS.

HÄLLAS plays adventure rock that brings the listener back to an age where wizards and witches were still spoken of. The music has a foundation of progressive rock and NWOBHM mixed together with pain-filled storytelling expressed by the vocals of Tommy Alexandersson. The twin guitars set an early 80’s mode while the rhythm and organ give the album a solid 70’s atmosphere. Founded in the northern parts of Småland, Sweden in 2011, HÄLLAS saw their initial breakthrough with their highly-acclaimed most recent album, "Excerpts From A Future Past", and the hit single "Star Rider". "Conundrum", was released in Scandinavia on January 31, 2020. The album will be released internationally via Napalm Records this spring. Now, the quintet invites everyone into their cosmic adventure accompanied by music forged on tales of sorcery and courage.

Following the release of the new album, HÄLLAS will go on a Scandinavian Tour, starting in Stockholm, this will be followed up with a European tour on March 12, 2020 supporting KADAVAR, see the dates below.

Forget about everyday life and step into an adventurous fantasy world of "Conundrum". That the final album in the trilogy really wraps things up in the best possible way. From the dream-lifting into "Ascension" that builds up a perfect bridge to the progressive pop-rocker "Beyond Night And Day", where SUPERTRAMP and RUSH flow by in my mind, a great tune to open the album, great melody, lovely guitars and excellent vocals. This is followed up by the half-pace, light bluesy bass comp tune "Strider", with moonful and emotional vocals, 80's synths spices up the tune. "Tear Of A Traitor" first single boosts up the tempo a few knots, a melodic and catchy piece that easily sneaks into the brain. The electronic popish rocker "Carry On" screws up the pace a notch. A very catchy piece that waves hello to their fellow countryman in THE NIGHT FLIGHT ORCHESTRA. Followed by two beautifully progressive rockers, "Labyrinth Of Distant Echoes" & "Blinded By The Emerald Mist" where both hit the seven-minute mark, it's like a hypnotic transport route to ending "Fading Hero", a nine-minute grande finale, where grooves from the past echos high and the presence is absolute, the feeling is completely magical. "Conundrum" shows that HÄLLAS are pure goldsmiths and made one the finest Jewellery that you can obtain these days.

Sum: "Conundrum" third and final epos that covers both drama and grace in a magical way! What a great beginning of 2020.
