Apocalyptica - End Of Me

Apocalyptica is a Finnish cello metal band from Helsinki, Finland, formed in 1993. The band is composed of classically trained cellists and, since 2003, a drummer. Three of the cellists are graduates of the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Finland. Their music features elements from classical music and neo-classical metal, to symphonic metal and thrash metal. They have sold over three million albums to date.

7th Symphony is the seventh studio album from Apocalyptica. The band has stayed with the tradition of having 4 tracks with featured vocalists, the remaining tracks will all be instrumental. Dave Lombardo of Slayer will once again be featuring on drums, on the track entitled "2010". The first single "End of Me" with Gavin Rossdale of Bush on vocals. The track "Bring Them to Light" was originally written for Worlds Collide, but both Duplantier and Apocalyptica were unhappy with the original, and so they decided to re-work the track, and re-record it for their next studio album.

The album is available for presale on their official website in two versions. The original album contains 10 songs as opposed to the limited edition which includes 12 songs (additional tracks being "Through Paris in A Sportscar" and "The Shadow of Venus"). The limited edition also includes a bonus DVD with filmed acoustic recordings from a session at the Sibelius Academy in Finland, recorded on June 4, 2010. The iTunes bonus track "Spiral Architect" is a cover of Black Sabbath and will also be featured in the free CD available with the September 2010 issue of Metal Hammer.

Todays tune "End of Me", the song is released as the first single from 7th Symphony. The song features Gavin Rossdale of Bush on lead vocals. The music video for "End of Me" was shot in a crematorium in Altadena, California at the end of May 2010. The band worked again with Canadian Lisa Mann who directed the video for "I Don't Care" from the album Worlds Collide.

Robyn - Dancing On My Own

Wrap up of Popaganda Festival 2010 and the last band out on Tune Of The Day for this time.

It was a nice weekend at the festival, no rain at all, what is this. The sun was up shining the hole day, sometimes it was hiding in the clouds, but as long as there was no rain it kept me happy along with all the others at Eriksdalsbadet. Friday was a pretty interesting day/evening, the day started with a band that didn't have a drum kit, but that was fortunately sorted kinda quickly so the band could enter the stage at time.

2:nd Band on stage was Jonathan Johansson that did a pretty well and sofar so good, all in time.

Before it was time for the 3:rd act there was group of swimmers that had a art show in the pool and right after that Familjen go up on the stage and in the middle of the set he started to invite some friends, like Martin Sköld from Kent and Markus Krunegård. But the girl behind the percussion was a nice surprise and did a hell of a job.

When it was time for the 4:th act Belle & Sebastian, some technical failure forced them to be on hold, it was one of the keyboard computers that broke. Belle & Sebastian came up on stage 15 mins late. But that didn't effect them at all, they did a great show and invited 5 people on stage for a dance. The also sorted the set with one song to not break the next change over to much.

But it wasn't enough, the time for the change over was to sort to get all the gear on place and get it line checked, so Robyn got up late, the hard curfew was set to 23 and that one never got hold this evening, not much but enough to get complains i guess. Anyway, Robyn really danced the socks of the audience and got crazy out there, kinda cool show of this certain girl, she knows how to entertain.

Saturday started much better, The Concretes load in went smoothly and all the gear on place in time, even a soundcheck and a Radio check for the Swedish Radio was done. The Concretes did a ok show, but overrun their time with 5 mins and that was not to good, as the next change over was only 30 min, and now got shorted to 25 mins, to the change over was in rapid mode and the gears flew out from the stage to get the next band Hästpojken on stage in time. And hey, Hästpojken started 1 min late, that is so cool.

After this it was time for todays art swim, and in the mean time the 3:rd band the indie poppers Shout Out Louds did get their gear in position. Shout Out Louds did a very good show, in my ears this weekends best band live.

A new change over and prep for the 4:th band on stage, The Magic Numbers, all when good until it was time to get them on stage some patching failure started and The Magic Numbers went on stage 10 mins late, they shorted their set with 2 songs to get back on track but that didn't help, the overrun their time with 5 mins. The overrun was probably caused during the Hammond Song where The Magic Numbers invited some friends from First Aid Kit, Shout Out Louds, The Concretes among others to sing, took some time to get them in.

Anyway the overrun was not the hole world as the last band Hot Chip had a superb crew, so i was almost certain that they would make a change over and line check under 40 mins. And hell they did it, the intro started 21:59 and i was cool again. The hole gig was done before 23 to the curefew was hold this evening and everybody was happy.

And now over for todays tune....

Robin Miriam Carlsson, better known by her stage name Robyn (born 12 June 1979) is a Swedish recording artist and singer-songwriter. Robyn became known in the late nineties for her worldwide dance-pop hits "Show Me Love" and "Do You Know (What It Takes)" from her debut album Robyn Is Here (1997). Robyn entered Melodifestivalen 1997 as a songwriter with the entry "Du gör mig hel igen" (You Make Me Whole Again). She has since started to gain mainstream success worldwide owing to the popularity of her #1 hit single "With Every Heartbeat" and subsequent album release. In January 2009 Robyn won a Swedish Grammis award for Best Live Act 2008.

Robyn released the first of a trilogy of albums to be released this year titled Body Talk Pt. 1, in June 2010. It is her first album since Robyn (2005). The albums lead single "Dancing on My Own" was released a few weeks prior to the albums release, and became a hit single worldwide, including in the U.K. where it reached the Top 10. A follow up album, Body Talk Pt. 2 is due for release in September 17 and a follow up to that Speak Your Body: Body Talk Pt. 3 is expected in December 2010.

Todays tune "Dancing on My Own" is a song by Swedish recording artist Robyn from her fifth studio album, Body Talk Pt. 1. Co-written with and produced by Patrik Berger, the electropop ballad was released in the United States on 1 June 2010 and in the rest of the world on 14 June as the album's lead single.

"Dancing on My Own" received positive reviews from contemporary critics who compared the style and lyrics to "With Every Heartbeat". The song became Robyn's first number one hit in Sweden. It reached number three in the U.S. on Billboard's Hot Dance Club Songs chart, and became her fourth UK top ten hit, peaking at number eight. It also charted in Denmark, Norway, Belgium (Flanders) and Germany.

Hot Chip - Over And Over

Tonight is the 2:nd show day at the Popaganda festival and todays headliner is Hot Chip.

Hot Chip are an English electropop band that formed in 2000, though members Alexis Taylor and Joe Goddard had previously worked together and had been at Elliott School in Putney, London since 1991. The current line up was completed when occasional collaborators Owen Clarke, Felix Martin and later Al Doyle joined the band full time in 2003. In addition, Dillon Farrell was a key part of the bands rhythm section, playing the electric marimba on their debut album. Hot Chips big break came with the album "The Warning" in 2006 and their cool, but swinging discopop existed in every hipsters ipod.

They have released four studio albums "Coming on Strong - 2004", "The Warning - 2006", "Made in the Dark - 2008" and "One Life Stand - 2010".

Todays tune "Over and Over" was the first single from Hot Chip's second album The Warning. It was released twice in the UK in 2006 - first reaching number 32 in March and number 27 in October.

Belle & Sebastian - White Collar Boy

Today Tune Of The Day will check out a few bands that plays at the Popaganda festival this weekend on Friday and Saturday, where i'm of course will be working on :) So we will follow this festival and wrap it up on Sunday with a small review and hopefully some pictures.

Today is a bit special as my youngest daughter is having her 4th birthday, so this evening will be all for the family and i will be full of cookies, cakes, lemonade and play with some pink balloons.

See below for the setlists of artists. We start today and check up on of the bands that will play on friday at the bigstage. So first out is Belle and Sebastian who are an indie pop band formed in Glasgow in January 1996. Belle and Sebastian are often compared to influential indie bands such as The Smiths, as well as classic acts such as Love, Bob Dylan and Nick Drake. The name Belle & Sebastian is inspired by Belle et Sébastien, a children's book by French writer Cécile Aubry. Lauded by critics, Belle & Sebastian's "wistful pop" has nevertheless enjoyed only limited commercial success.

Todays tune "White Collar Boy" is the third single lifted from the Belle & Sebastian's The Life Pursuit. The track was released on 26 June 2006 on Rough Trade Records, and was produced by Tony Hoffer. Despite its mainstream "electro-vibe" appeal, it failed to make the top 40, only scraping in at #45. It is the band's first single not to make the Top 40 since "Lazy Line Painter Jane". The model on the cover is Catherine Ireton, who later became the lead vocalist for Stuart Murdoch's God Help the Girl project.

The Gracious Few - Honest Man

The Gracious Few is a rock band from the States. The 70’s rock bands such as Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd or even the Rolling Stones is the big influence the sound of The Gracious Few. You’ve got a great class rhythm section playing heavy blues based songs mixed with screaming guitars. This is really raw, powerful music.

Todays tune “Honest Man” is from the upcoming record, Kevin Martin states that the lyrical is about “It reminds me of my father. He was a World War II veteran. He believed in the American dream with all his heart, he was the honest man of his generation. Now I turn on the television and see Americans without jobs, without food and without a chance to help themselves. This song is a wake up call to the forces of the world who would dare to stand in the way of our ability to provide for ourselves.”

Träd Gräs & Stenar - Punkrocker

Torjörn Abelli, bassplayer of Träd Gräs & Stenar and a great friend have left the earth for travelling in other realms. I met Torbjörn long time ago at a show here in Stockholm, he was a very talkactive and a nice guy. He had always some great stories to tell, even if i bumped into him in town or at a show. So i started to see him and the band more often, can't even remember how many shows i have seen but its many. One thing i remember was when they did a show at Slussen with a Asian Psychedelic act they didn't have any to help out with thier merch so he asked nicely if i could handle it and sure there i stood selling cd's and t-shirt :) Another thing we had in common was the Website of TGS, where i helped him once to build up the guestbook. Torbjörn, you will be missed, but you will always be around. Thanks for everything, Rest In Piece.

Träd Gräs & Stenar (Trees, Grass and Stones)a band rooted forty years back, plays an ageless trance-rock. The first minimalist rock group in Sweden, with a dubious key role in Swedish underground the years 1967 - 1972, still alive today playing a very contemporary suggestive, rythmic heart pumping and sound streaming music not played by anyone else.

Todays tune is for him and the rest of the guys in the band.

tAKiDA - Never Alone Always Alone

It was the last show of a Swedish Tv Program called "Sommar Krysset" yesterday.
Me and my friend Hasse were helping out changing the sets for different bands.
There were 7 artists..pweew
There were a Swedish artist called "Brolle"
Pugh Rogerfeldt trio, couple of really great guys.
Tove Styrke a girl that were in the Swedish Idol 2009.
Mohombi a dance music group.
Takida
Chanée & N´evergreen a danish group.
Simone Moreno with Friends a girl from Brazil
It was insane in between but we made it ok.

Just under the (full-)dress rehearsal the rain just came without any warning
and the Dj table was out and Brolle´s synth and computor went wet.
The synth/comp. was ok ;)
The Dj table was a dummy so I dont know if it worked or not, we will see
today cos its a party for the crew today and I think they will use it.

Takida, Brolle and and Pugh's trio was good, I guess the other stuff
they were good as well but not my music style :p

As Takida were the one´s that made the biggest impact on me we take them
with the song they play´d.

Takida is a alternative rock, post grunge band that was formed 1999 from north of Sweden. They did a big hit in 2007 called "Curly Sue" on the album named "Bury Alive"
That album took a platinum in Sweden (sold over 40.000 copies)
Yesterday the played another song from their latest album from 2009
"The Darker Instinct".

On their site they are selling a video that I did one of the follow spots on.
*Proud* hehe. the site is http//www.takidamusic.com/
They will make a tour in France and Germany later this fall.

Takida is:
Robert Pettersson (vocals)

Tomas Wallin (guitar)

Mattias Larsson (guitar)

Fredrik Pålsson (bass)

Kristoffer Söderström (drums)

Folks here is the tune that they played.

Peace, Thetania

Vampire Weekend - White Sky

Vampire Weekend is an American indie rock band from New York City, formed in 2006 and signed to XL Recordings. The band released its first album Vampire Weekend in 2008, which produced the singles "Mansard Roof", "A-Punk", "Oxford Comma", and "Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa". The band's most recent album, Contra, was released in 2010 were we find todays tune.

To be honest I was going to choose something totally different for today, but my daughter likes these guys and wanted me to take the "White Sky" tune with them, so why no please her for once :)

Vampire Weekend performs "White Sky", from their new album "Contra", live on KCRW's Morning Becomes Eclectic with Jason Bentley. 01.11.10.

Vampire Weekend and a lawsuit.

On July 15, 2010, Vampire Weekend, along with XL Recordings and Brody, were sued by Ann Kirsten Kennis, the woman who identified herself as the mysterious woman on the cover for $2 million for using the photo without her permission. Kennis has said that the photo was taken while she was "a high-fashion model under contract with prestigious agencies in New York City." In addition, Kennis claims that the release forms for the photo that was allegedly signed by Kennis herself, were forged. In a statement released by Kennis' lawyer Alan Neigher, Neigher explains that Kennis discovered herself on the cover when her daughter brought home a copy of Contra and showed it to Kennis. Neigher also mentioned that Brody did not take the photo and said that it was taken by Kennis' mother. Despite this claim, Brody claims that he took the photo and says that he's had the photo for 26 years until Vampire Weekend got it. Koenig later responded on the matter and said that "this is the first time any of us have ever been sued, so we’re still learning how it works," he added, "There’s nothing we can say about it. We’re not trying to be mysterious. I imagine in the next few months there’ll be plenty to talk about. Given it’s our first time we just want to do it properly."
