Album "Graceland" is considered one of the highlights of Paul Simon's career. In the middle of South Africa Boycott, he went to Johannesburg to record it, but despite all this was the record became a critically acclaimed success. Yesterday he visited the Globe and played the album in almost its entirety.
The concert is a journey through Paul Simon's rich career, which in turn drawn influences from many countries and genres. He had also the vocal group Ladysmith Black Mambazo beside him, who attended at the Graceland section, and also performed the few songs with Paul Simon and the other musicians. South African trumpet player Hugh Masekela makes a guest appears on the tour, he plays on among other things the excellent "Mandela (bring him back home)". He is still a genius as a songwriter. He is worth seeing on stage.
Here are a few pictures that i took last night.
Todays tune "Graceland" is the title song of the album Graceland, released in 1986 by Paul Simon. The song features vocals by The Everly Brothers.
The lyrics deal with the singer's thoughts during a road trip to Graceland after the failure of his marriage to actress and author Carrie Fisher.
It was the lowest-charting song on any of the world music charts that has won the Grammy Award for Record of the Year until the Robert Plant and Alison Krauss US non-charting song "Please Read the Letter" won the same award in 2009. "Graceland" has been covered by artists such as Hot Chip, Grizzly Bear, Willie Nelson, El Vez, Casiotone for the Painfully Alone and The Tallest Man on Earth.
