High Spirits – Hard To Stop

Monday, a new week and it's time to present the "Record Of The Week".

"Hard To Stop" is the fourth full-length release by the Chicago based Chris "The Professor" Black's HIGH SPIRITS. A band that has delivered high-energy rock music that really kickstarts any old fart around this globe and now, finally they are back again with a new glorious 34-minute slab of hard-rocking, fist-shaking, foot-stomping positive ear candy, a record that comes in the right time when the depression is starting to peak around the world.

"Hard To Stop" is an excellent release from HIGH SPIRITS and the hard-working Chris Black that has been so creative this year that he had already released two new albums, in February he released "Placebo" with his science-fiction prog project AKTOR and in March did the album "Snake" arrived with his heavy thrash band DAWNBRINGER and now on July 31, the third album "Hard To Stop" with HIGH SPIRITS, absolutely crazy.

The album has been spinning the whole weekend, got it one day before release thru High Roller Records and I'm totally sold, it just makes me so happy inside that I glow like a candle as my wife refers to me. The true essence of the band's tunes is the mix between melodic hard rock and traditional heavy metal where the harmonies are the key to create a groovy energetic rhythm where Chris craftsmanship is just stunning, lovely solos, twin guitars, big choruses, well-executed vocals, excellent heavy upbeat drumming, and a neat and clear bass lick.

The album opens with the bombastic "Since You've Been Gone", no it's not a RAINBOW cover 😁. It's high octane and very catchy tune, galloping rhythm that rushes forward like the 86' Buick Regal Grand National, great chorus and wonderful riffing. Followed by "Restless", another catchy power rocker that will keep your feet bump along. "Face To Face" is a groovy rocker with a lovely guitar solo. "Hearts Will Burn" is a power rocker in the true American way. In the middle part of the album and in the tune "Voice In The Wind" does he shows another direction of the band with this punk rocker that sounds something between LOU REED and IGGY POP. The album gets back on track with "All Night Long", high octane riffs, catchy lyrics, and great drum fills. "Midnight Sun" is another groovy, slight doomy piece. The rocker "Now I Know", is a great heavy upbeat piece with fast drumming, long repetitive riffs that make my blood bubble in time. The album closes with the rocking anthem "We Are Everywhere". "Hard To Stop" is simply another excellent album of HIGH SPIRITS. Highly Recommended!

Sum: During these times, this is something you NEED!

My Vinyl is a beautiful Clear one with blue splatter!

Today's tune "Restless" is taken from "Hard To Stop", enjoy!

U2 - Pride (In The Name Of Love)

Sunday, time for a classic.

Today's tune "Pride (In The Name Of Love)" is a song by Irish rock band U2. The second track on the band's 1984 album, "The Unforgettable Fire", it was released as the album's lead single in September 1984. Written about Martin Luther King Jr., the song received mixed critical reviews at the time, but it was a major commercial success for the band and has since become one of the band's most popular songs.

The song is a tribute or illustration or reminder to us, of martyrs to this ideal. It speaks to how they lived their life with an inner Pride in all of humanity and that this Pride is really an expression of God's love for all of humanity. These people did what they did because they were trying to spread this message of God's love for all of mankind. This began as a song about US president Ronald Reagan. Bono had lyrics written condemning Reagan for an arrogant pride that led to nuclear escalation, but it just wasn't working. "I remembered a wise old man who said to me, don't try and fight darkness with light, just make the light shine brighter," Bono told NME. "I was giving Reagan too much importance, then I thought Martin Luther King, there's a man. We build the positive rather than fighting with the finger." King was killed on a Memphis motel balcony on April 4, 1968. Bono sings "early morning, April 4," but King was actually shot at 6:01 p.m. local time. Bono has acknowledged the mistake and sometimes sings it as "early evening, April 4." Chrissie Hynde (lead singer of The Pretenders) sang backup. She was married to Jim Kerr of Simple Minds at the time and was thanked on the album as "Mrs. Christine Kerr."

Enjoy today's tune!

Gorgoroth - Profetens Apenbaring

I'm back, after little over two weeks up in the north, the serenity, birds chirping, angry mosquitoes, barbecues, saunas, and the occasional moose really do wonders for the soul.

Also got the chance to meet a lot of childhood friends, as well as my best friend "Peter" who I have hung out with since my first pubic hair grew. Absolutely wonderful and super nice because it happens so rarely.

Back in Stockholm and here some things happen even if it is a bit sparse considering what surrounds us right now. The annual "Stockholm Cruise" takes place in the city, where classic cars drive around in circles and people drink beer and have a cozy time, it would have been nice if you had a nice car to glide around in, but I don't, spend everything on records, haha. At the same time, we have "Stockholm Pride" this week, most of the happenings are in the digital format, but some meet out at "Gärdet" for some socialization.

So I thought we play something that suits in for both events "but with a twist".

So why not The Norwegian black metal band GORGOROTH, a band based in Bergen and was formed in 1992 by guitarist Infernus, who is also the only original member remaining, and the band has since released nine studio albums. GORGOROTH is a Satanic band and has drawn controversy due to some of their concerts, which have featured impaled sheep heads and mock crucifixions. The band is named after the dead plateau of darkness in the land of Mordor from J. R. R. Tolkien's fantasy novel The Lord of the Rings. Now you are probably wondering, how did he think here??, this is neither "Pride" music nor "Cruise", well it works great to drive to and the common thread to "Pride" is of course Gaahl who is openly gay. Although it is a bit far-fetched, that's me who thinks in an odd way only.

Today's tune "Profetens Apenbaring" is taken from the third studio album "Under The Sign Of Hell". Recorded in 1996 and released in 1997, it was the first album to feature Ares on bass (on one track) and the only one to feature Grim on drums. GORGOROTH re-recorded the album as "Under The Sign Of Hell 2011", released in November 2011 by Regain Records. This re-recorded version was the last album with vocalist Pest.

Today's clip is filmed Live Black Mass Krakow 2004, The concert featured sheep heads on stakes, "crucified" nude models, Satanic symbols, and eighty liters of sheep blood. The band came under fire for violating Polish anti-blasphemy laws as well as Polish animal rights laws. A police investigation took place with allegations of religious offense (which is prosecutable under Polish law) and cruelty to animals. Though these charges were considered, the band was not charged as it was ruled that they were unaware of the fact that what they were doing was illegal, although the concert organizer was eventually fined 10,000zł in 2007, as he knew about it and neither informed the band that it was against the law nor intervened. The whole controversy led to the band being dropped from the roster of the Nuclear Blast Tour and the footage of the concert being confiscated by the police. Enjoy!
