Queens of the Stone Age - Villains

Monday, new week and it's time to introduce "Record Of The Week"

"Villains", the seventh full-length studio release for the rock band led by Josh Homme and his QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE.

This time they have worked with the producer Mark Ronson that have fine-tuned the tracks and the record sounds really good.

"Villains" feels as enthralling as it is complex, with it's typical QOTSA craziness, farout and trippy and in the same time very melodic and riffy, a little looser and more uptempo than their last release ...Like Clockwork and "more carefree".

The opening tune "Feet Don’t Fail Me" starts with an roman electric atmosphere for 90 seconds before it rumbles on with monoton bobbing guitar strut and Josh Homme on a few gallons of Red Bull. Lead single "The Way You Used To Do" is a real melodic piece with a clear bassline, well signed lines by Josh, could be a comming hit single, well I will dig it if it gets a spin on the radio or the pub. All the tunes on "Villains" is in a very good quality, it's like a cuttlefish, spreads all over, were influences fingers on classic artists like LED ZEPPELIN in crunchy "Domesticated Animals", a really cool tune that flows a bit out from the normal spectra with it's dirty riffing to the half pace "Fortress" where the love is gracious and in "Head Like A Hunted House" the tempo get's higher where the old school Rock 'n Roll get a punkish feeling, a odd but cool garage rock tune. In "Un-Reborn Again" flirts with both T-REX and DAVID BOWIE, fuzzy and wonderfully farout, easy-breezy disco beats and chilly synths. "Hideaway" is an electronic softish piece where the electronica works hand in hand with the distorted guitar and Josh sings beautifully. Tempo and the craziness goes up in "The Evil Has Landed" and the album closes with "Villains Of Circumstance", almost the same outgoing as the opening tune but this is more laidback, bigger and more gorgeous music vise.

Sum: "Villains" is a danceable glossy swagger!

The cover art for Villains was designed by graphic artist Boneface, who designed the artwork for QUEENS OF THE STONE AGEs previous album, ...Like Clockwork.

Today's tune "The Way You Used to Do" is the first single from the QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE album "Villains". The single was released on June 15, 2017. Enjoy!

Genesis - Firth Of Fifth

Sunday, time for a classic.

Firth of Fifth is a song by the British progressive rock band GENESIS. It first appeared as the third track on the 1973 album "Selling England by the Pound", and was performed as a live piece either in whole or in part throughout the band's career.

The title is a pun on the estuary of the River Forth in Scotland, commonly known as the "Firth of Forth". Though the song is credited to the entire band, most of the music was composed by keyboardist Tony Banks. He had written the bulk of the song by 1972, presenting it as a candidate for the album "Foxtrot" (1972), but it was rejected. He redesigned the piece, which the group accepted as a candidate for "Selling England by the Pound". Banks worked on the lyrics with the group's Mike Rutherford, which he later dismissed, saying they were "one of the worst sets of lyrics I have been involved with."

The song starts out with a classical-style grand piano introduction played by Banks. This section is rhythmically complex, with certain bars in the rare time signatures of 13/16 and 15/16, alternating with bars of 2/4. This section changes tempo and segues into the first section of lyrics, accompanied by Phil Collins on drums and a chord progression between the Hammond organ (Banks) and guitar (Steve Hackett). The song then features a flute melody played by Peter Gabriel, followed by a synth-driven instrumental section which restates the opening piano theme. Hackett then plays the flute melody using violin-like guitar tones. Peter Gabriel then sings a brief section of lyrics before Banks concludes the song on piano.

A legendary performance of Firth Of Fifth from GENESIS in their prime!

GENESIS In Concert 1974 "Selling England" tour 2DVD collector's item set. "Firth Of Fifth" was recorded live at Montreal Quebec, Canada April 20th, 1974 Some missing sequences were edited in from other venues to create the song in it's entirety.

Noah Cyrus - Stay Together

Today is my youngest daughters birthday and as tradition I ask the kids what they like the most for now. I give them a chance to chose a tune or a video that they like to see or listen to. My daughter chooses "Stay Together" by the American actress and singer Noah Cyrus. It was released on April 14, 2017, as the second single from her debut studio album, NC-17 (2017). The song was written by Cyrus, Emily Warren, and Britt Burton, with production being handled by Digital Farm Animals and Hudson Mohawke.

Noah Lindsey Cyrus (born January 8, 2000) is an American actress and singer. She voiced the title role in the English version of the 2009 animated feature film Ponyo. In 2016, she released her debut single "Make Me (Cry)", featuring vocals from Labrinth. Her debut album is set to be released in late 2017. She is the youngest daughter of Tish Cyrus and Billy Ray Cyrus and the younger sister of Miley Cyrus and Trace Cyrus.

Idolator's Mike Wass called it "rowdy, relatable and very catchy" as well as a "raucous, rebellious anthem with a massive sing-along chorus" and a "perfect snapshot of teen restlessness and carpe-diem spirit." Tom Breihan of Stereogum compared "Stay Together" to the works of Miley Cyrus and dubbed it Noah's "own attempt at a no-fucks anthem." Entertainment Weekly's Nolan Feeney labeled it a "laid-back, slightly melancholy YOLO anthem." Gabe Bergado of Teen Vogue said "it's totally a song that you'd listen to while dealing with all the feelings after a breakup."

So here it is, happy birthday kiddo! Love you, enjoy the tune!

THE QUILL is back with its classic set from the albums "Silver Haze", "Voodoo Caravan" and "Hooray, It's A Deathtrip". On the brand new album "Born From Fire" the quartet has retained the feeling of the 70's intact and offers twelve blinding stone rockers.

On Vocals we find Magnus Ekwall (AYREON) who together with drummer Jolle Atlagic (HANOI ROCKS, ELECTRIC BOYS), guitarist Christian Carlsson and bassist Roger Nilson (SPIRITUAL BEGGARS, FIREBIRD) show how dynamic the band sounds again.
