Neil Young - Cortez The Killer

Last week, I got challenged in one of those blogathon. To be honest I am not particularly interested in that sort of thing, I run my own thing, you know.

Though sometimes, I just had to go outside the box, there is surely someone out there who is interested to know as well that this is quite funny thing even for myself to see what I would have chosen.

This thing is about whether one is locked up in solitary confinement only equipped with a stereo and im allow to take 5 records with me. As this was not something I had planned, so this will not be a dance in the park.
Given that my taste in music spans so many branches it will immediately be super hard.

Questions arise of course directly, how long will you be locked up, forever or?
What counts as an album, will it work out with a box?
Should it be for a long time and I had the opportunity to choose I would probably bring my Ipod with the best music I know, to make it easy.

Now I imagine that this is for a limited period, ex a few weeks / months.
I've been thinking, review my vinyls, CD's and found 5 records that could live with for a longer period of time. I choosed the CD's to make it easier. I cowardly crawl and only bring on the safe ones than to pick something fresh that might have time to turn sour during my stay.

But im trying to get a good span in all cases so that i can live with them without problems.

First up, have to be my household gods, Led Zeppelin.
Where i like to include as much as possible without taking the complete box that stands on the shelf.
So I chicken out a bit with a collection. I choose Led Zeppelin - Mothership, an album that covers all of the best tunes.

Second album is with Motörhead, No Sleep 'Til Hammersmith, that is one of the best live recordings made, it is incomparable driving album and it suprised me every time I play it.

The third one i choose is an Black Sabbath album. This was a bit tricky as there is so many good ones, but one that has been spinning alot lately is...

Fourth is something completely different, a live album with Miles Davis.
Live Evil is a great and a bit odd and helps me to land on the ground if im lost in space. This is also the CD version with some bonus tracks.

The fifth and final record stood and weighed between Queensryche - Operation mindcrime and Neil Young's - Live Rust. Flipped a coin and the winner was Neil Young - Live Rust.

Now of course i have to pass this on to keep it alive and i give this to Thetania, Metallbibliotekarien Martin and Alexander, i was going to give it to Tom S but he is slippery as an eel.

Todays tune will be one of my choosen records and i pick Neil Young.
The Live Rust was recorded during his fall 1978 Rust Never Sleeps tour. The tune "Cortez the Killer" is a song orginally take from his 1975 album, Zuma. The song is about Hernán Cortés, a conquistador who conquered Mexico for Spain in the 16th century. "Cortez the Killer" also makes reference to the Aztec ruler Moctezuma II and other events that occurred in the Spanish conquest of the New World.

Children Of Bodom - Was It Worth It

Okey, Back to Finland and another great Metal band.
COB, Children Of Bodom!
They are comming to my hometown tomorrow at Arenan, Stockholm.
I will not be able to see em this time as Im at Graveyard but
Ill catch them next time.

Children of Bodom formed in Espoo, Finland in 1993; named in reference to one of the most notorious mass-murders in Scandinavian history, the group was originally founded by singer/guitarist Alexi Laiho and drummer Jaska Raatikainen, with subsequent roster additions including guitarist Alexander 'Ale' Kuoppala, bassist Henkka Blacksmith and keyboardist Janne Wirman.

Graveyard - Ain't Fit to Live Here

I thought I take a Swedish band today :D
Usually I take the band after Im doing em,
but today I want to give u all the opportunity, to go and look on them.

Graveyard and my favvo band Hong Faux will come
to Kägelbanan Thursday the 24th of March In Stockholm!!
Hong Faux is a rock band from Stockholm, that we had on Tune Of The Day
on the 16th of March.




This is nothing u should miss.

The band's sound can be somewhat simplified be described as classic rock and it does not require digging deeper musically to locate Graveyard musical influences. Graveyard is based both their sound and their look of a solid "retro ground" - but is certainly much more than just a repetition of the past. They rather take the 70s sound on to our time.



They will release a new album this spring named "Hisingen Blues",
It is produced, recorded, and mixed in analog by Don Alsterberg (JOSÉ GONZALES, JUNIP, SOUNDTRACK OF OUR LIVES, THE INTERNATIONAL NOISE CONSPIRACY) at Don Pierre Studios in Gothenburg, Sweden. It is due out in Europe on March 25 and in North America on April 19th.

The band offer their commentary on their recording sessions:

“We recorded the album in several different sessions. As much as possible, we tried to do live. All of it is 100% analog… and we'd like to take this opportunity to once and for all kill the argument that recording analog is ‘retro’ or that we've got a ‘retro’ sound. Analog recording is just one technique among many. Just like you build a house using bricks, wood or whatever. Paint a picture using oil, acrylic or Photoshop.



Our music sounds best recorded analog; other bands sound best using nothing but computers and a thousand filters. Analog recording brings warmth and an organic feeling to the music, that's what we like. To us, ‘retro’ is often something negative, meaning an unimaginative repetition of what has been or just a carbon copy of something old. We play timeless classic hard rock with a lot of blues and psychedelic influences among many others. And regarding analog being retro: Go through the history of rock and pick your best twenty albums. How many of them have been recorded on computers? Don't mistake classic pieces of work for retro.”

Amorphis - Magic & Mayhem

This is a band that goes on and on, on my ipod.
This tune is soft in the beginning but staggering its deepness after awhile.
Its sort of a heavy rock band from 70´s but with twentieth century metal touch.
I just love it!!



Amorphis comes from Finland as many good Metal band, almost the same as Swedens Gothenburg that have many good ones too :)

The singer Tomi Joutsen has so long hair that he must have problems when taking a shit, I bet :D



AMORPHIS, whose title derives from the word 'Amorphous' meaning without shape or form, have ploughed their own distinct furrow by combining Death Metal with elements of 70's inspired Progressive Rock and even Psychedelia.
