Supertramp - School

Sunday, time for a classic.

"School" is a tune by English rock band SUPERTRAMP, taken from the third studio album "Crime Of The Century", released in September 1974 on A&M Records.

The album "Crime Of The Century" was SUPERTRAMP's commercial breakthrough in many countries, most notably in the UK, Canada and Germany where it peaked in the Top 5 while also making the Top 20 in Australia and France. The album had a few hits like "Bloody Well Right". Today's tune "School" was another popular track, particularly at album rock-oriented radio stations.

Hodgson describes "School" as "my song basically" but admits that Davies wrote both the piano solo and a good deal of the lyrics. Interviewed by Jeff Parets of Acoustic Storm in 2010, Hodgson confirmed that the song was based on his experience at boarding school and said of the girl's scream: "Everything, especially that scream that you're talking about just before the band comes in, does represent a lot... I mean, you know, school is a wonderful place. Obviously, it's a school playground but that scream does represent a lot more."

"Crime Of The Century" deals loosely with themes of loneliness and mental stability, but is not a concept album. Davies consciously linked the opening track "School" to "Bloody Well Right" with the line "So you think your schooling is phoney", and according to Hodgson, any unifying thread beyond that was left to the listener's imagination.

SUPERTRAMP were an English rock band formed in London in 1970. Marked by the individual songwriting of founders Roger Hodgson (vocals, keyboards, guitar) and Rick Davies (vocals, keyboards), they are distinguished for blending progressive rock and pop styles, and for a sound that relied heavily on Wurlitzer electric piano. The group's line-up changed numerous times throughout their career, with Davies the only consistent member. Other longtime members included bassist Dougie Thomson, drummer Bob Siebenberg and saxophonist John Helliwell.

Supertramp - The Logical Song

Its Sunday and Classic time :D

Hello there again, Ive been away and not been able to do TOTD for some time.
What would be the best for me to do other than a classic :D

Ive choosen Supertramp. I bought this album in 1979 I think, it have been playd so much since then. The Logical Song was one of my highlights, really love the lyrics they maked me think; Hm am I doing right or wrong? What is my purpose? What are others purpose etc.

This album is Supertramps sixth album, Breakfast In America won the 1980 Grammy Award for Best Recording Package, beating out albums by Talking Heads and Led Zeppelin, among others. (I dont know if I totally agree on this cos Led Zepp is my gods)

On 21 April 2010 it was announced that Supertramp would give 35 concerts in late 2010. Dates were announced for concerts in Germany, Portugal, the Netherlands, Italy, France and other European countries. This tour called "70-10" was to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the group's first release. Roger Hodgson, who was not included in this tour, embarked on a solo 2010 tour to Australia, New Zealand, South America, Europe, Canada, and the US.

In 2011 both Hodgson and Supertramp continued to tour separately. When asked whether Roger Hodgson might appear on some of the 2011 dates Davies replied, “I know there are some fans out there who would like that to happen. There was a time when I had hoped for that too. But the recent past makes that impossible. In order to play a great show for our fans, you need harmony, both musically and personally. Unfortunately that doesn’t exist between us anymore and I would rather not destroy memories of more harmonious times between all of us.

So the future will see if they find the harmony on the personally side :D

Here is the website for Roger Hodgson
And here is Supertramps website.

Ah well folks, Here is Supertramp!

Peace, Thetania

My People was recorded in Berlin (Said to have been recorded at a studio located within a hundred yards of the site of the Berlin Wall) the song is inspired by a series of popular uprisings in the Arab world with voices from around the world, filmed in Dubai, edited in Kuala Lumpur the film mimics the colorful spirit of the 70s yet reflects the powerful march of people today hopefully heading towards a new dawn of freedom.

He told TT (Swedish Radio)
"It's my wish to join with the people's call for freedom, to lend my voice to others who are fighting for basic rights,”

Besides some numerous guest during the show, the Swedish Crown Princess and her husband did a visit.

Behind all this, it is actually a bunch of very skilled workers, The Dutchman Mark, the tour leader, a very nice guy who, after this tour, get on the Roger Waters tour. And by the way, he loved Thetanias homemade meatballs :) When we refer qualified and experienced people, I must mention Roger Searle, I only can say Holy Moses, what a guy and what stories he could tell. The guy have been around 45 years in this business. Started already back in 1967 as Road Manager for The Who. His resume is amazing, I just skimmed through the list and there is bands such as Marsha Hunt, Led Zeppelin, Eric Clapton, Emerson Lake & Palmer, Humble Pie, Supertramp, Whitesnake, Judas Priest, Roger Daltrey, Level 42, Paul McCartney, Mike Oldfield, Loreena McKennitt, Jimmy Barnes, Vanessa-Mae, Cliff Richard, Dina Carroll, Santana, Julio Iglesias, The Shadows, David Gilmour among others ... feels like i can continue this forever. Under the Swedish flag as a local promoter, we find the experienced Nicklas Eliasson who really made sure everything flowed as smooth as possible to make everyone happy. He did a terrific work.

Here is some real photos from the Official Photographer Aminah Yusuf taken from Hovet, Stockholm.
