Father John Misty - Ballad Of The Dying Man

FATHER JOHN MISTY (A.K.A. Josh Tillman) takes aim at Internet age self-absorption on his hilarious new single "Ballad of the Dying Man."

"Pure Comedy" is the upcoming third studio album released by American folk musician FATHER JOHN MISTY. Its release was announced on January 23, 2017. It is to be released on April 7, 2017, in the UK and Europe on Bella Union, and in the rest of the world on April 7, 2017, on Sub Pop. This is Tillman's third studio album since his departure from FLEET FOXES. It has been produced by Joshua Tillman in collaboration with Jonathan Wilson, sound engineer Trevor Spencer and composer/double-bassist Gavin Bryars

"Pure Comedy" is the story of a species born with a half-formed brain. The species’ only hope for survival, finding itself on a cruel, unpredictable rock surrounded by other species who seem far more adept at this whole thing (and to whom they are delicious), is the reliance on other, slightly older, half-formed brains. This reliance takes on a few different names as their story unfolds, like “love,” “culture,” “family,” etc. Over time, and as their brains prove to be remarkably good at inventing meaning where there is none, the species becomes the purveyor of increasingly bizarre and sophisticated ironies. These ironies are designed to help cope with the species’ loathsome vulnerability and to try and reconcile how disproportionate their imagination is to the monotony of their existence.

In light of the album announcement, Tillman released their 25-minute short film Pure Comedy: The Film, captured by a six-person room throughout the recording of the album. He co-directed with Grant James. It is a monochromatic depiction of the live tracking and Tillman’s writing process. Singles

The single "Pure Comedy" was released on Monday, January 23, 2017 with a music video animated by Matthew Daniel Siskin. The second single released off of the album, "Two Wildly Different Perspectives", was released with a music video also animated by Siskin on January 30, 2017. The third single released was "Ballad of the Dying Man" on February 1, 2017

Today's tune "Ballad of the Dying Man" is the latest track from his upcoming third LP, "Pure Comedy". Video by Matthew Daniel Siskin. "Pure Comedy", which follows 2015's "I Love You Honeybear", is out April 7th.

Father John Misty - I Love You, Honeybear

I Love You, Honeybear is the second studio album from American folk musician Josh Tillman under the pseudonym Father John Misty released on February 10, 2015 on Sub Pop. Produced by both Tillman and Jonathan Wilson, this is Tillman's second studio album since his departure from Fleet Foxes. The album was also mixed by Phil Ek, and mastered by Greg Calbi at Sterling Sound. According to Tillman, the release is a concept album.

I Love You, Honeybear was recorded in 2013 and 2014 in Los Angeles. The album was produced by Jonathan Wilson and was mixed by Phil Ek and mastered at Sterling Sound.

Josh Tillman described I Love You, Honeybear as a concept album about himself. The album deals with Tillman's personal life, including him "engaging in all manner of regrettable behavior," as well as his relation with his wife Emma. Because of the album's raw, personal nature, Tillman worried about playing the songs live and initially had a hard time playing those songs to people close to him.

Limited Edition 2x12", LP Tri-Color Vinyl

Todays tune "I Love You, Honey Bear" was filmed live at the Neptune Theatre. Recorded on January 24, 2013.
