King Crimson - The Court of the Crimson King

Sunday, time for a classic!

"The Court of the Crimson King" is the fifth and final track from the British progressive rock band KING CRIMSONs debut album, In the Court of the Crimson King. Also released as a single, it reached #80 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. Along with "Heartbeat", it is one of the band's only two charting singles in the United States. The band is out touring atm, yesterday they visited Stockholm :), more dates below.

KING CRIMSON are an English rock band formed in London in 1968. The band has undergone numerous formations throughout its history of which 21 musicians have been members; since 2016 it has consisted of Robert Fripp, Jakko Jakszyk, Tony Levin, Mel Collins, Pat Mastelotto, Gavin Harrison and Jeremy Stacey. Fripp is the only consistent member of the group, and is considered the band's leader and driving force. The band has earned a large cult following.

In the Court of the Crimson King (subtitled An Observation by KING CRIMSON) is the debut studio album by the British rock group KING CRIMSON, released on 10 October 1969. The album reached number five on the British charts, and is certified gold in the United States, where it reached #28 on the Billboard 200.

The album is generally viewed as one of the first works to truly embody the progressive rock genre, where KING CRIMSON largely departed from the blues influences that rock music had been founded upon and mixed together jazz and classical symphonic elements. In his 1997 book Rocking the Classics, critic and musicologist Edward Macan notes that In the Court of the Crimson King "may be the most influential progressive rock album ever released". The Who's Pete Townshend was quoted as calling the album "an uncanny masterpiece". In the Q & Mojo Classic Special Edition PINK FLOYD & The Story of Prog Rock, the album came fourth in its list of "40 Cosmic Rock Albums". The album was named as one of Classic Rock magazine's "50 Albums That Built Prog Rock".

The album was remastered and re-released on vinyl and CD several times during the 1980s and 1990s. All of these versions were based on tape copies that were several generations removed from the originals. The original first-generation stereo master tapes were thought to be lost, but were finally located in a storage vault in 2003. This led to a much improved remastered CD version, released in 2004.

Enjoy today's tune.

Bad Company - Do Right By Your Woman

Sunday, time for a classic again. Do you guys remember the band English rock Bad Company? Well i do, the band consisting of two former Free band members — singer Paul Rodgers and drummer Simon Kirke — as well as Mott the Hoople guitarist Mick Ralphs and King Crimson bassist Boz Burrell. They formed in 1973. Peter Grant, who, in years prior, was a key component of fellow British rock band Led Zeppelin's rise to fame, managed the band. Bad Company enjoyed great success throughout the 1970s. Many of their singles, such as "Bad Company", "Can't Get Enough", "Good Lovin' Gone Bad", and "Feel Like Makin' Love", retain popularity with rockers of both the past and present decades. To this day, their songs remain staples of classic rock radio.

Todays tune "Do Right By Your Woman" is taken from Bad Company's third album "Run With The Pack is", it was released in 1976.

Run With The Pack was recorded in France with The Rolling Stones Mobile Truck in September 1975 with engineer Ron Nevison and mixed in Los Angeles by Eddie Kramer. The album was the only original Bad Company album not to feature artwork from Hipgnosis as it featured artwork from Kosh instead.

Their cover of the Coasters single "Young Blood" peaked at #20. The album also spawned rock radio classics "Silver, Blue and Gold", "Live For the Music", and the title track. Although "Silver, Blue and Gold" remains one of the band's most popular compositions, the song was never released as a single.

The vinyl had a shiny, silver cover, but CD versions feature a simple, dull gray cover. The album was remastered and re-released in 1994.

Anekdoten - The War Is Over

Howdy Folks,
Now to the next support band from the Meshuggah evening,

Anekdoten !
They take you back to late 60´s and beginning 70´s.
Classic Swedish progressive band from Borlänge, where the early 90's began as a trio under the name of King Edward. A year later they finished playing King Crimson songs and started writing their own, under the name of Anekdoten(Anecdote).
The group's debut "Melancholy". The band's vinyl album is now sold more than expensive wine on the various auction sites.

They have done 5 studio albums and 3 live albums.
Anekdoten also released a compilation album 2009.

Allmusic writes about em;
Anekdoten answers one of the great "what if" questions of art-rock: what if King Crimson hadn't broken up in the mid-seventies? Anekdoten is a remarkable sound-alike to Red-era King Crimson, which is hardly surprising given Anekdoten's roots as a tribute band. Its instrumentation of viola, distorted Rickenbacker bass, highly pitched drums, Frippy guitar, and mellotron all evoke this era of art-rock; the smoky English vocals only add to the effect.

They were somehow a bit odd in this gig with the brutal metal that Meshuggah and C.B Murdoc presented, but as I am an old progressive music lover I liked this as well.
But somehow I couldnt digest it in-between these 2 bands.

Here is some pics that Stones took at the gig :) Enjoy!

Okey Dudes and Dudettes, Here is Anekdoten!

Peace, Thetania
