Roky Erickson - Two Headed Dog

Sunday time for a classic.

Another rock icon has passed away, Roky Erickson was an American singer-songwriter, harmonica player, and guitarist from Texas. He was a founding member of THE 13TH FLOOR ELEVATORS and a pioneer of the psychedelic rock genre. Erickson died in Austin on May 31, 2019.

Today's tune "Two Headed Dog (Red Temple Prayer)" (produced by The Sir Douglas Quintet's Doug Sahm and inspired by Vladimir Demikhov's 1950s head transplant experiments) was released as a single. This song is by Roky Erickson and the Aliens and appears on the album "Roky Erickson and the Aliens" (1980) and on the compilation Sounds of the Seventies: Punk and New Wave (1993). Enjoy this a catchy little song by Texas musical genius Roky Erickson.

Roky Erickson - If You Have Ghosts

Today it's the Official Halloween or Hallowe'en (a contraction of Hallows' Even or Hallows' Evening), also known as Allhalloween, All Hallows' Eve, or All Saints' Eve, is a celebration observed in a number of countries on 31 October, the eve of the Western Christian feast of All Hallows' Day. It begins the three-day observance of Allhallowtide, the time in the liturgical year dedicated to remembering the dead, including saints (hallows), martyrs, and all the faithful departed.

What would be more psychedelic than the legendary Roky Erickson a day like this, a tune about the unseen. Here, his haunted mind is let loose, perhaps literally. Psychedelic frontiersman, former lead singer/rhythm guitarist of THE THIRTEENTH FLOOR ELEVATORS.

Today's tune "If You Have Ghosts", taken from the album "The Evil One" (Plus One) with his '80s group, THE ALIENS: Duane Aslaksen, Billy Miller, Jeff Sutton or Fuzzy Furioso, and Steven Morgan Burgess. Here is Roky Erickson with the Mystic Knights of the Sea perform at the Roky Erickson birthday celebration at La Zona Rosa in Austin, Texas. Charlie Sexton (guitar), John X Reed (guitar), Alvin Crow (violin), Speedy Sparks (bass) and Mike Buck (drums).
