Keel - The Right To Rock

Keel was an American heavy metal band founded in 1984 in Los Angeles, California. They were known for their rock anthem "The Right to Rock." The band was active until 1989, with a brief reunion in 1998. Keel reunited in 2008 and is currently touring for their 25th anniversary.

All the members from The Right to Rock era have rejoined except for Chaisson. The new bassist is Ron Keel's longtime friend, Geno Arce. Their first reunion show was held in Hollywood, CA, on January 31, 2009. In addition, the band played at the third annual Rocklahoma festival on July 2009. A reunion album, Streets Of Rock N’ Roll is slated for release in 2010, as well as the 25th anniversary edition of The Right To Rock featuring a brand new re-recorded version of the title song as a bonus track.

This weekend is Keel in Stockholm, Sweden for a gig at the Stockholm Rock Out Festival. Other bands at that festival are Great White, U.D.O., Lizzy Borden, Kingdom Come, Pretty Boy Floyd, Wig Wam, TUFF, John Corabi and more...

Todays tune is the title track from Keel's second album "The Right to Rock". It was the first to be produced by Kiss's Gene Simmons under their new label Gold Mountain Records (which was distributed by A&M Records at the time). When the band started recording the album, drummer Bobby Marks left. He was replaced by different drummers: Fred Coury (who went on to join Cinderella), Barry Brandt (of Angel) and Steve Riley (who subsequently left to join the band W.A.S.P.). Dwain Miller eventually became the band's permanent drummer before the album was released.

Here is a classic video of the tune, enjoy!
