Junius - Eternal Rituals for the Accretion of Light

Monday, new week, time to introduce "Record Of The Week".

"Eternal Rituals for the Accretion of Light" is the latest release by the Boston anthemic post punk/post metal band JUNIUS.

This is the third full-length album, it's also the final part of this trilogy of conceptual albums composed by "The Martyrdom Of A Catastrophist", "Reports From The Threshold Of Death" and now 6 years later "Eternal Rituals For The Accretion Of Light".

With "Eternal Rituals for the Accretion of Light" does JUNIUS reaches new levels. The band has never sounded heavier, direct or more progressive than on the new record. Post metal with a symphonic and progressive hand shake, magnificent soundscapes with big triumphs and dark melancholy. Dreams and spirituality is the main theme. Every tune is its own chapter from this musical book. Experimenting with the musical building blocks makes this album captivating and very addictive. The album opens with the grandios piece "March of the Samsara", a powerful progressive tune with massive and hard riffs around a soft post vocals. The celestial "Beyond the Pale Society" is JUNIUS at their heaviest, very powerful and high intensity that continue on the "Mass for Metaphysicians" and the protest tune "Clean the Beast", where both are hypnotically heavy and hard to sit still to. The more movie serie like tune "The Queen’s Constellation", were the tripping keys starts up the engine of the song. To the more chanting tune "Telepaths and Pyramids" with it's Ghosts vibe. "Masquerade in Veils" is a more electronic piece, with darker vocals, almost like Johnny Cash. "Heresy of the Free Spirit" have a eastern vibe with heavy riffing. The album ends with the epic "Black Sarcophagus", a real masterpiece indeed.

Sum: With such a varied musical story and diverse lyrics and vocal styles makes this album really worth your time. But beware, you will play this album more than one time.

The record also featuring a stunning packaging by Drew Speziale (CIRCLE TAKES THE SQUARE), Comes as a single LP, heavy stock, custom die-cut gatefold cover with metallic gold line work throughout the art and 4 panel insert. A must have item :) It's not only the cover that is excellent art, the hole package of the songs make this pure and beautiful art.

JUNIUS consist of:
Bassist Joel Munguia, Drummer Dana Filloon and Vocalist/Guitarist/Dreamweaver Joseph Martinez

Today's tune is the anti political piece "Clean The Beast", enjoy!

Joe Walsh - Rocky Mountain Way

Sunday, time for a classic.

"Rocky Mountain Way" is a 1973 song by rock guitarist Joe Walsh and his band Barnstorm, with writing credits given to Walsh, Rocke Grace, Kenny Passarelli, and Joe Vitale. The song was originally released on the album "The Smoker You Drink, the Player You Get".

Reportedly inspired by the longtime Ohio native's move to Colorado, 'Rocky Mountain Way''s chunky slide guitar, lurching rhythm and rolling piano line does indeed capture the rugged natural beauty of that state.

Walsh appeared in studio on The Howard Stern Show on June 12, 2012 and talked about how the lyrics to the song came to him in 1972 shortly after releasing his first solo effort, "Barnstorm".

"I'm living in Colorado and I'm mowing the lawn. I look up and there's the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains and there's snow on them in the summer. And it knocked me back because it was just beautiful. And I thought, 'Well I have committed. I'm already in Colorado and it's too late to regret the James Gang. The Rocky Mountain way is better than the way I had, because the music was better.' I got the words. Bam!"

The song was used as the title to Walsh's 1985 compilation album, which featured previously released singles and tracks from albums "Barnstorm", "The Smoker You Drink, the Player You Get" and "So What".

Today's tune is performed at CONAN on TBS with The Basic Cable Band. Enjoy!

Hypergiant - Perseus Arm

HYPERGIANT delivers heavy music from the edge of the void, Sydney to be more precise.

These fellows are named after the ultra-massive class of star, HYPERGIANT fuse the monolithic riffage of stoner rock with the intricacies of progressive metal to create a sound both colossal and nuanced.

Drawing inspiration from a broad range of artists, from the revered godfathers of the riff, BLACK SABBATH, to the modern behemoths such as MASTODON, SLEEP and BARONESS, with a hint of the psychedelic space-rock characteristic of PINK FLOYD and HAWKWIND, HYPERGIANT are steadily carving out a sound of their own from the molten sludge of these combined influences.

HYPERGIANT consists of:

Nathan Lee - Guitar & Vocals
Gordon Hammer - Guitar
Lachlan Davidson - Bass
Julian Moxon - Drums

Today's tune "Perseus Arm" taken from "Father Sky", released November 16, 2017.

Jack White - Connected By Love

"Connected By Love" is the new single of the forthcoming third solo album by 12-time Grammy Award-winner Jack White, "Boarding House Reach" (out March 23rd).

White produced and recorded the song in three locations: Sear Sound in New York City, Capitol Studios in Los Angeles, and Third Man Studio in Nashville. It’s the first time White has recorded an album in New York and Los Angeles, and his first with an entirely new crew of musicians that includes drummer Louis Cato (Beyoncé, Q-Tip, John Legend), bassist Charlotte Kemp Muhl (THE GHOST OF A SABER TOOTH TIGER), synthesizer player DJ Harrison, keyboardist Neal Evans (SOULIVE, Talib Kweli, John Scofield), percussionist Bobby Allende (David Byrne), and backing vocalists Ann & Regina McCrary of Nashville's legendary gospel trio the McCrary Sisters.

Written and conceived while holed up in a spartan apartment with no outside distractions, Jack replicated the identical environment and used the same gear as when he was a 15 year old (a quarter-inch four-track tape recorder, a simple mixer, and the most basic of instrumentation) to pen sketches of the album’s songs. . The album was recorded at Third Man Studio in Nashville, TN, Sear Sound in New York, NY, and Capitol Studios in Los Angeles, CA – marking the first time Jack has recorded an album in either LA or NYC.

"Connected by Love" was the first song he wrote in a Nashville apartment.

Today's tune is the new single “Connected by Love” from the forthcoming album "Boarding House Reach".
