James Leg - A Forest

Thursday, time to check out a tune for this weeks cover song!

"A Forest" is a song by the English alternative rock band THE CURE. Co-produced by Mike Hedges and THE CUREs Robert Smith, it was released as a single from the band's second album "Seventeen Seconds" on 8 April 1980.

"A Forest" tells a vague story of the pursuit of a girl in a forest, which ends in a loss. Many fans and critics regard this song in particular as a good example of THE CUREs unique sound.

This song is behind a famous incident. At the 1981 Werchter Festival in Belgium, The Cure were on before Robert Palmer and were just finishing their set. Robert Palmer, apparently getting a little pushy, tried to have his road crew hurry The Cure off the stage. Robert Smith responded by sassily informing the crowd that they couldn't play anymore, then played an extra-long 9-minute version of "A Forest." Bass player Simon Gallup put a stamp on the performance by shouting "F--k Robert Palmer" to a cheering crowd!

Today's cover of the tune "A Forest" made by JAMES LEG, a pretty remarkable version with distorted Hammond, the Clip is filmed live at Le Bootleg Bordeaux 03/11/2015, enjoy!

THE CURE play "A Forest" at the "Rock Werchter Festival" on july 2, 1981. This is the infamous "f***k Robert Palmer, f**k Rock and Roll" episode where the Cure were told they had to cut their set short, obviously not to the amusement of Robert Smith, Simon Gallup and Lol Tolhurst.

The long-awaited third album from Bay Area dark, heavy rockers, BLACKWÜLF, featuring the fantastic guest lead guitar work of doom legend, Geof O'Keefe (PENTAGRAM/BEDEMON), who adds his chops to three tracks!

"Abandon All Hope" is the band's fifth upcoming studio album, which will be released on May 11.

Earthless - Black Heaven

Monday, new week, time to introduce "Record Of The Week"

"Black Heaven" is the fifth studio album by the San Diego-based trio power trio, EARTHLESS. A band known for the instrumental jams thru out the years and now suddenly guitarist Isaiah Mitchell found out that he can do two things, play the guitar and sing, woohaa, and with drummer Mario Rubalcaba and bassist Mike Egington who adds a solid rhythms to the tunes. So with "Black Heaven" we get an EARTHLESS with a twist, nothing bad about it at all, on the contrary, it gives the music much more substance, a meaning, and facelift of an already classic band.

"Black Heaven" is a six tune album with full of mind-bending riffing, classic rock-influenced kraut with a light psychedelic atmosphere. The album opens up in a typical EARTHLESS style, improvised rock with the great album starter "Gifted by the Wind", melodic and catchy boogie, same formula is used on the next following songs "End to End" and "Electric Flame", as well as closer "Sudden End", the first single and video is the sub-two-minute punky "Volt Rush", a fast, full-power and all-go-down-hill tune. The title tune, "Black Heaven", starts with the ZEPPELIN alike intro, blending guitar riffs and soloing by Isaiah Mitchell. "Black Heaven" is a solid and well composed album with a great deal of spontaneity.

Nice looking Vinyl!

Sum: A boldness effort by EARTHLESS with "Black Heaven" ends up stronger than ever, don't miss this one!

Today's tune "Volt Rush" suites perfect as a week starter, enjoy!

The Allman Brothers Band - In Memory of Elizabeth Reed

Sunday, time for a classic.

"In Memory of Elizabeth Reed" is a song by the American group THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND. It first appeared on their second studio album, "Idlewild South" (1970), released on Capricorn Records. The song—a jazz-influenced instrumental was written by guitarist Dickey Betts, among his first songwriting credits for the group. Betts named the song after a headstone he saw in Rose Hill Cemetery in the band's hometown of Macon, Georgia. Multiple versions of the song have been recorded, with the version performed on the group's 1971 live album At Fillmore East generally considered the definitive rendition.

"In Memory of Elizabeth Reed" was inspired by a woman Betts was involved within the group's hometown of Macon, Georgia. She was the girlfriend of musician Boz Scaggs, with Betts later saying she "was Hispanic and somewhat dark and mysterious—and she really used it to her advantage and played it to the hilt." To cloak her identity, the song is named after a headstone Betts saw at the Rose Hill Cemetery, where band members often ventured in their early days to relax and write songs. A considerable legend developed about the song's genesis and what Betts was doing at the time, much of it fueled by a put-on interview band leader Duane Allman gave Rolling Stone. "Duane told some crazy shit about that graveyard. I don't wanna tell all, but that's the part that matters," Betts later said. For his part, vocalist Gregg Allman was candid about his experiences in the cemetery: "I'd be lying if I said I didn't have my way with a lady or two down there." The cemetery later became the final resting spot of Duane and Gregg Allman, along with bassist Berry Oakley.

This was the first original instrumental song by The Allman Brothers.

Betts wrote this is based on Miles Davis' "All Blues." While Davis had been incorporating elements of rock into his jazz, Betts used pieces of jazz for this rock instrumental. Jazz rhythms make excellent use of the two-drummer format the Allmans use. This is one of their live favorites. It usually evolves into a lengthy jam. At concerts, this was a showcase for Allman's drummers Jaimoe and Butch Trucks, who performed a drum solo at the end.

The live version on At Fillmore East takes up almost a whole side. Because of the extended jams, it became a double album, but the band insisted it is priced close to a single album.

The Age Of Truth - Caroline

THE AGE OF TRUTH is a band, a brotherhood, and a mission. Four brothers-in-arms from Philadelphia united in the singular pursuit of making the most honest heaviness this broken world can handle. As our modern lives bathe us in constant unraveling lies and deceptions, the truth in the heaviness they create makes them clean.

With a fully stocked arsenal of monotone riffs wrapped in a tone of honey-dipped Satan, THE AGE OF TRUTH blends fuzz and diesel fuel with elements of heavy blues, stoner rock, and psychedelia. A great album to spend an hour or two on a sunny afternoon.

Today's tune "Caroline" is taken from the debut album "Threshold" was released November 1, 2017. Enjoy!

Black Space Riders - Movements

"Amoretum Vol. 1", is the fifth BLACK SPACE RIDERS album. It was released January 26, 2018.

The internationally acclaimed predecessor "Refugeeum" brought the band renown with its mixture of thoughtful, sensitive themes and hard, atmospheric rock. Two years have passed since then, two years in which the world has not necessarily become a better place in the eyes of most people.

War, terror, displacement, destruction, rejection, and nationalism dominate the headlines. Or, as a wise little green fellow once said: “Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering”. “All you need is love”, countered the BEATLES in 1967. The response of BLACK SPACE RIDERS in 2018 is “Amoretum”, a made-up word comprising “Amor” and “Arboretum” to symbolize a protective garden and a germ seed of love. And so the new song cycle of BLACK SPACE RIDERS is all about the conflict between fear-hate-rejection-darkness on the one hand, and love-empathy-care-light on the other. For, how else should we overcome hate, if not with love? Musically, this conflict is consistently put into practice by a band that beats its own path and is constantly developing. The electronic experiments of the "Beyond Refugeeum" EP of 2016 have been reduced sonically and cleverly integrated into the powerfully sounding songs. Between fat, dirty riffs and trippy delays, everything that sounds good is allowed; the album is interspersed with a flowing groove throughout and an ever-present atmosphere that embraces the listener. Heavy, sometimes proggy, often psychedelic, always engaging and almost catchy and danceable, "Amoretum Vol. 1" takes us by the hand, shows us the dark side, and then wants to give us the hope back that we so often painfully miss.

The album flows from song to song as if from a single cast. The listener wonders after 45 minutes whether everything is really already over, and wants to go back to the beginning again immediately. But of course everything is not over after 45 minutes in the world of BLACK SPACE RIDERS. The band also announces a second chapter for 2018 ... AMORETUM Vol. 2 is waiting for us, while we take pleasure from Vol. 1 and patiently wait for the further work.

"Amoretum Vol. 1" is released on Vinyl (180G, incl. CD), CD (digisleeve) and download/stream.

Gozu - Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat

On April 13th, Boston's rock/metal outfit GOZU will release their new album, "Equilibrium", via Blacklight Media Records. For a first preview of Equilibrium, the video for the new single "Ricky 'The Dragon' Steamboat" (directed by Tony Simone at Zenbeast Audio can be viewed below.

With roots in 60s psychedelia and classic rock, the fuzzy stoner riffs of the 70s, the grit of 90s grunge and the winning dirty rock n' roll that has in recent years made a resurgence, GOZU has been churning out killer records since 2009. With 2016's "Revival" they took their sound in a somewhat new and more aggressive direction, and in doing so, dropped the most compulsive, exciting and downright badass release of their career - and with "Equilibrium" they only raised the stakes and so far it sounds really bad ass.

"We wanted these songs to hit a nerve, make people shake their ass and enjoy simply being alive," says vocalist/guitarist Marc "Gaff" Gaffney, who founded the band with lead guitarist Doug Sherman.

Pre-order here, in the following formats:

--180g black vinyl + download card

Primordial - Exile Amongst The Ruins

Monday, time to introduce "Record Of The Week"

"Exile Amongst the Ruins", is the latest full-length album by Irish metal band PRIMORDIAL.
2018 marks the twenty-seventh year of the band's seminal career, and returning with their ninth full-length, "Exile Amongst the Ruins," they have lost none of their vitality.

Once again building upon their signature sound, the follow up to 2014's "Where Greater Men Have Fallen" is a more raw, "old school sounding" record than its predecessor. Hitting home with what vocalist A.A. Nemtheanga describes as "a direct energy" and wielding an urgency that is undeniable, the Irish quintet once again effortlessly blends elements of Celtic folk and black metal like no one else. Likewise, the evolution of their sound continues to be organic and unforced, ensuring that "Exile Amongst the Ruins" is essential listening for both their long-term faithful and those only now drawn into their world and they are one of the few bands that produce consistent, passionate, and sincere albums and "Exile Amongst the Ruins" is one of the strongest records so far.

"Exile Amongst the Ruins" clocks in at 1hr 5mins, all spread over 8 tunes. The album starts with "Nail Their Tongues", an intro of Sunday church clocks and Celtic acoustic guitar before the rest of the members joins. Fuzzy bass-lines and great played powerfully guitar riffs and Nemtheangas typical vocals to nail the last puzzle piece. "To Hell Or the Hangman" have a wonderful monotone melody that takes you away from the present time with it's galloping guitars and the energy that makes your heart pumping some extra bpm's. "Where Lie the Gods" slows down a bit, a tune where Nemtheangas vocal capacity gets some more space, around the complex atmospheric melody. The title track, "Exile Amongst the Ruins", a brilliant melancholic piece of music, see the video below. "Upon Our Spiritual Deathbed" is a mournful piece of music with soulful lyrics. "Stolen Years" is a beautiful slow and emotional piece with slow and scary shimmering guitars and very touching vocals. "Sunken Lungs" lets loose of the energy again with its rolling drums and the turbulent melody. The album closes up with the longest composition "Last Call", it begins quietly and slow with one laidback guitar and sparse drumming before the cup is overflowing, a strong end to an equally strong album that is well worth the time it might take to let it absorb in.

Sum: PRIMORDIAL have released a masterpiece, an emotional and perfectly crafted album that should get more attention and if I would give out scores then this would be 10/10.

One of the beautiful bundels to get.

PRIMORDIAL will be touring Europe this April, along with MOONSORROW and DER WEG EINER FREIHEIT, see all the dates below.

Today's tune is the title tune from "Exile Amongst the Ruins", the song is a simple story. "A soldier’s fate that has happened around the world many times and will continue to do so. It is set in Ireland about 100 years ago. Nothing more and nothing less. They are the Ghosts. We are the Ruins.” Enjoy!

The Cramps - Human Fly

Sunday, time for a classic.

"Human Fly" is a tune by the American garage punk band THE CRAMPS, taken from the first 12" EP "Gravest Hits" by compiling both sides of their first two 1978 Vengeance singles, "Surfin' Bird" and "Human Fly", with an added fifth track, a cover version of "Lonesome Town". It was released in July 1979 on Illegal Records and I.R.S. Records. The tracks were all produced by Alex Chilton and recorded at Ardent Studios in Memphis in 1977. The EP's liner notes were credited to "Dr. J.H. Sasfy, Professor of Rockology, American Rock'n'Roll Institute, Washington D.C., U.S.A.". "Gravest Hits" is one of the first records of both the rockabilly revival and the psychobilly genres. The photograph on the back of the original sleeve, of the band in performance, was taken at the Palladium theater in New York.

"Human Fly" appeared in episode 4 of the UK ITV comedy drama series Married Single Other as Clint scaled four floors of a block of flats in Leeds to try to recover his relationship with Abbie. A cover version of the song by Hanni El Khatib also appeared in a Nissan television advertisement. Another cover version was recorded by the Serbian alternative rock band Supernaut on their 2006 album Eli.

THE CRAMPS were an American punk rock band formed in 1976 and active until 2009. The band split after the death of lead singer Lux Interior. Their line-up rotated much over their existence, with the husband-and-wife duo of Interior and lead guitarist and occasional bass guitarist Poison Ivy comprising the only permanent members. The addition of guitarist Bryan Gregory and drummer Pam Balam resulted in the first complete lineup in April 1976.

Ill Wicker - Twelve Men

The Swedish ILL WICKER, progressive folk. "Untamed" is the second album. A tastefully composed album with great written stories.

ILL WICKER music is from the 60's and 70's England, it could be a combo of the classic INCREDIBLE STRING BAND in a combination of COMUS. Most of the tunes have a kinda pace with smashing drums and violent violins. The last tune on the album "Min Levnads Afton"/"Twelve Men" is based on Swedish folk tradition and have a slower approach, but very beautifully done.

ILL WICKER consists of:
Emil Ridderstolpe, Emma Lagerberg, Thea Åslund, Hampus Odlöw, Ebba Wigren, Adam Grauman

Today's tune "Twelve Men" is taken from ILL WICKERS album "Untamed" released by the Sign Records.

Black Diamond Heavies - Oh, Sinnerman

Thursday, time for a cover!

"Sinner Man" or "Sinnerman" is an African American traditional spiritual song that has been recorded by a number of performers and has been incorporated in many other of the media and arts. The lyrics describe a sinner attempting to hide from divine justice on Judgement Day. It was recorded in the 1950s by Les Baxter, the Swan Silvertones, the Weavers and others before Nina Simone recorded an extended version in 1965.

"Sinnerman" (spelled as one word) is one of Nina Simone's most famous songs and she recorded her definitive 10-minute-plus version on her 1965 album Pastel Blues. Simone learned the lyrics of this English song in her childhood when it was used at revival meetings by her mother, a Methodist minister, to help people confess their sins. In the early days of her career during the early sixties, when she was heavily involved in the Greenwich Village scene, Simone often used the long piece to end her live performances. An earlier version of the song exists recorded live at The Village Gate but was not used on the 1962 Colpix album Nina at the Village Gate.

Simone's version of Sinnerman has been sampled by Kanye West for the Talib Kweli song "Get By", by Timbaland for the song "Oh Timbaland", and by FELIX DA HOUSECAT for Verve Record's "Verve Remixed" series. It has also been covered by 16 HORSEPOWER on their album Folklore, and by ZEGOTA on their self-titled single. French rapper Abd al-Malik sampled Simone's version for the title track of his 2006 album "Gibraltar". He also sampled Simone's version of "See Line Woman" for the track "Le grand frère" from the same album.

American blues duo BLACK DIAMOND HEAVIES recorded a version for their 2008 album, "A Touch of Someone Else's Class".

From "A Touch of Someone Else's Class". Off of Alive Natural Sound Records, this quote, "there's an emotional weight and an almost telepathic synergy between Leg and Campbell", sums up exactly what I was thinking watching this vid - from the curve of their backs to the shake of their heads - telepathic synergy all the way...

Today's tune is Nina Simone's "Oh Sinnerman" (cabaret hell-blues salvaging its ludicrous Waits/Cave schtick with gothic proto-psych swirl ˆ la the DOORS or ANIMALS) Enjoy!

Doublestone - Here Comes The Serpent

The Danish retro-heavy rockers, DOUBLESTONE are an interesting gang of musicians that create some classic heavy rock and sings about wizards, devils, and serpents. Mixing lyrics with native language and english. The music is classic rock with blues and heavy rock influenses. Formed in 2011 Copenhagen, Denmark, by long time friends, Jamie and Bo as a duo. DOUBLESTONE, later that year became a power-trio as (the cousin) Kristian joined the band.

The trio released a few EP’s, and in 2013 joined forces with, MOS GENERATORs Tony Reed to record their first full length “Wingmakers.” The debut album was recorded in an old cheese factory’s basement under the city of Copenhagen and catapulted the trio into the international stoner-rock scene, with their 70’s inspired, straight forward hardrock.

Now digging even deeper and going even further under ground, the second album, was created in the World War II bunker which is now Wolf Ram Studio, produced and mixed by DOUBLESTONE and Andreas Krohn, and mastered once again by the legendary by Tony Reed. "Devil’s Own/Djævlens Egn" was released through Ripple Music on May 5, 2017.

The band consist of:

Bo Blond Daugaard – Guitar/Vocals
Michael James Bruun – Drums
Kristian Blond Møller – Bass/Vocals

Today's tune "Here Comes The Serpent" is taken from the bands latest album "Devil’s Own/Djævlens Egn"
