Florence Black - Breadfan

Time to introduce a great cover.

"Breadfan" is a heavy metal song originally recorded by BUDGIE, appearing on their 1973 album "Never Turn Your Back on a Friend". The title refers to a person's relationship to money, "bread" being slang for money. The lyrics highlight the moral dilemmas on what to do with money; keep it, give it away, spend it and to ultimately be free of it and not to let it rule your life.

Today's cover is made by the Welsh trio FLORENCE BLACK, taken from their "The Final EP". Recorded by Jeff Rose. Written by BUDGIE. Performed by FLORENCE BLACK, enjoy!

Kosmik Boogie Tribe - We’ve Got The Cash

Way Out West is now finally over, a festival that one is actually looking forward to each year. This was my 11th year in Slottsskogen, Gothenburg. This time we got very mixed weather, I mean very mixed, not just rain that we usually tampered with, but now we also got thunderstorms that stopped building on two occasions, a storm that passed thru and collected everything loose with it, signs, tents, fence cover, ash trays, etc. It was not only misery, one festival day with sun :)

The lineup for Wow was as usually very varied, where Thåström was crowned as king of the forest. Iggy Pop an long-standing artist that still keeps rocking, a cruel concert from a awesome artist. Patti Smith delivered and Kamasi Washington had a fabulous swing. Besides this, it was a fantastic bunch of peoples that worked really hard to make this to be the best festival ever, and the vegan ice cream tasted surprisingly good, the food was ok to be vegetarian, but I sadly missed the test of the Eco Gin. Overall the score for this year's festival was high.

So let's leave the Indie/Pop tunes and call back the some Flat out guitar rock.

KBT is a five piece rock and roll group based in Oslo, Norway. Each member originally hails from different rural parts of Norway but have been living in the capital for ages and have all been part of different aspects of the Oslo rock underground as bartenders, sound engineers, band hosts, booking agents and the lot for years and years at various clubs and venues. They literally live and breathe rock’n’roll.

The members also contribute in different ways with recording artists such as THE GOOD THE BAD AND THE ZUGLY, LONELY KAMEL, BACKSTREET GIRLS, THE MORMONES, COCKROACH CLAN and others.

Today's tune "We’ve Got The Cash" is taken from "We’re Not Here to Fu*k Spiders", The third release from Norwegian quintet! The album is an incendiary slab of no-bullshit, gutbucket rock n’ roll.

Popsicle - Not Forever

Few bands have been so characteristic for their time as POPSICLE. With classic hits like Sunkissed, "Hey Princess" and "Not Forever" they became the soundtrack for many people’s 90’s. Now they are back and ready to take on Linné stage at Way Out West.

POPSICLE is a pop group in Piteå in Sweden, which together with THIS PERFECT DAY, THE WANNADIES and BRAINPOOL started the 1990s indiepop wave in Sweden.

POPSICLE may have laid the foundations of the Swedish indie scene, but it was not until four years later as the band played through to a wider audience, that they had their biggest hit - the single and today's tune "Not Forever" from the self-titled third album.

Iggy Pop - Lust For Life

There’s a reason why many consider Iggy Pop the godfather of punk – every single punk band of the past and present has either knowingly or unknowingly borrowed a thing or two from him and his late-’60s/early ’70s band, The Stooges. Widely acknowledged as one of the most dynamic stage performers of all time, Iggy Pop pre-figured both ‘70s punk and ‘90s grunge and has built a legendary career filled with both critical acclaim and fanatic cult success. Many say you should put seeing Iggy rock out on one’s “must see” list – his fans of all generations are the first to testify to that. This summer you will get the chance to cross him out on that list, as Iggy Pop will take his spectacular live show to Way Out West this summer.

Iggy Pop has released some 20 albums during his over 50 year long career. The first two of Iggy Pop’s solo albums after disbanding THE STOOGES were co-written and produced by David Bowie – collaboration widely discussed as one of the most epic musical alliances. Some of those albums produced anthemic sounds like The Passenger, commercially successful collaborations like Candy(with Kate Pierson) and hits featured in cult movies (Lust for Life, Repo Man and In the Death Car). His latest – Post Pop Depression – was released in 2016 and became a huge success. In 2010, Iggy and the Stooges were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. His latest piece of new music was a collaboration between Jarvis Cocker of Pulp and himself, where they both recorded a magnificent cover version of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds Red Right Hand for the TV-series Peaky Blinders.

Iggy Pop was performing in Slottsskogen on Thursday August 9.

Todays tune "Lust for Life" is a 1977 song performed by Iggy Pop and co-written by David Bowie, featured on the album of the same name.

St. Vincent - New York

It’s hard not to be impressed by Annie Clark – or St. Vincent as she calls herself. Last year she released her fifth album, MASSEDUCTION, on which she once again exceeds all expectations. With a unique sound, an amazing voice and a quaint expression one can agree that St. Vincent is one of the most interesting artists of our time. Apart from all this, she’s also a guitar virtuoso who has been called “the first truly 21st century guitar hero” by Guitar World Magazine, an excellent songwriter and a true innovator of the pop music of today.

After breaking through with magnificent Marry Me in 2007 – and being compared to the likes of David Bowie and Kate Bush – every release by St. Vincent has meant a fascinating experience. Equally fascinating in a live environment, St. Vincent can easily be described as one of the most exciting live performers of today, always breaking boundaries and introducing new concepts. She has also recorded a collaborative album and embarked on a tour with one of her biggest fans – David Byrne of Talking Heads

St Vincent did perform in Slottsskogen on Thursday August 9.

Today's tune "New York", is taken from the fifth studio album "Masseduction" (stylized in all caps). It was released on October 13, 2017, through Loma Vista Recordings.[4] The album peaked at number 10 on the Billboard 200, becoming her first top ten album in the United States. The album also received universal acclaim and was the fourth-most mentioned in critic's year-end lists for 2017

Thåström - Bluesen i Malmö

Thåström is considered by many as Sweden’s only true rockstar. Regardless if one agrees or not, Thåström serves as a school book example on how to remain relevant as an artist over an extended period of time. Always curious, never cynical and with an artistic integrity set in stone he managed what very few of his colleagues could: he stayed relevant during four decades. His concerts are no exceptions. Often described as a haunting experience, with Thåströms standing in front of a powerful backlight, singing his very own kind of industrial blues like no one else.

Thåström is a legendary Swedish artist and performer, his roots stretch back to the punk rock movement in the late 70s. Since the late 80s he has released several acclaimed solo records and 2017 he released “Centralmassivet” which was awarded with a Grammy.

Thåström will perform in Slottsskogen on Saturday August 11.

Miriam Bryant - Black Car

Miriam Bryant is one of the biggest artists on the Swedish music scene after accumulating 200 million streams, five Platinum or multi-Platinum tracks, and a million monthly listeners at Spotify. Now she’s returning her attention towards repeating that success on an international scale. Born in Gothenburg to an English father and a Finnish mother, Miriam’s interests cross right across the musical spectrum.”Finders Keepers” became Miriam’s first homeland hit, but bigger things were waiting on the horizon when she featured on Zedd’s track “Find You” which found a huge international audience when it appeared on the soundtrack to sci-fi smash ‘Divergent’.

That stance worked wonders with the ‘Hisingen och Hem Igen ’ EP (a collection of songs recorded for the smash hit Swedish TV music show ‘Så Mycket Bättre’) which saw all six tracks simultaneously chart at Spotify. Currently only available in the Nordics, her latest EP “Bye Bye Blue” saw Miriam return to the charts in style with the track “Black Car” already 5 x Platinum. Everything’s in place for Miriam Bryant to rocket to the top of the global charts too.

Miriam bryant will perform in Slottsskogen on Friday August 10.

Today's tune "Black Car" is taken from the latest album "Bye Bye Blue", enjoy!

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard - Rattlesnake

The music of KING GIZZARD & THE LIZARD WIZARD [AUS] is as hard to describe as their name is to pronounce. Sometimes it sounds like a psychedelic gem you managed to dig out at your local record shop but their sonic universe also incorporates jazz, heavy metal, progressive rock, film music and folk. Like a materialization of a record collectors dream, this Melbourne band fearlessly guides the listener through some of the most obscure borderlands of music history. Always with an absolute love for the for the forgotten music and an intact faith in its transforming potential.

Just a few hours before 2017 came to a close KING GIZZARD & THE LIZARD WIZARD managed to make their album “Gimboot Soup” available on their Bandcamp and thus fulfilling the more than ambitious promise to release five (!) album in 2017 alone. If anyone was to pull of such a foolish venture it was King Gizz who released two album each year between 2013 and 2015. This seven-piece band is not only very productive, they are also known for their excellent live shows. In other words: prepare your minds for expansion because they will visit Slottsskogen this summer.

KING GIZZARD & THE LIZARD WIZARD will perform in Slottsskogen on Friday, August 10.

The band was formed in 2010 in Melbourne, Victoria. The band consists of Stu Mackenzie (vocals, guitar, keyboards, flute), Ambrose Kenny-Smith (vocals, harmonica, keyboards), Cook Craig (guitar, vocals), Joey Walker (guitar, vocals), Lucas Skinner (bass), Michael Cavanagh (drums, percussion), and Eric Moore (drums, percussion, management). They are known for their prolific recording output, as well as their energetic live performances. This is something I really looking forward to see.

Today's tune "Rattlesnake" is taken from the ninth studio album "Flying Microtonal Banana". It was released on 24 February 2017 on Flightless Records in Australia, ATO Records in the United States, and Heavenly Recordings in the United Kingdom. It is the first of five albums released in 2017, and subtitled "Explorations into Microtonal Tuning, Volume 1". The album is recorded in quarter-tone tuning, where an octave is divided into 24 (logarithmically) equal-distanced quarter tones.

The album earned the band a nomination for Best Group at the ARIA Music Awards of 2017.

Kamasi Washington - Street Fighter Mas

Jazz don´t happen a lot in mainstream music these days but when it happens it happens hard. And no one in the world of jazz happens harder than Kamasi Washington right now. His debut album released in 2015 ”The Epic” was exactly what it says on the tin, an epic. Aided by his phenomenal ten-piece band The Next Step Kamasi delivered 173 minutes of music, cooly swinging from smoky dive-bar to mind bindingly groovy cosmic funk. Last year, Washington returned with the equally epic but not as long EP ”Harmony of Difference”. Being almost a perfect EP, the release didn’t sound like anything we heard last year. But Y'all knows when jazz works best, live on the stage. Welcome to Slottsskogen.

Kamasi Washington (born February 18, 1981) is an American jazz saxophonist, composer, producer, and bandleader. Washington is known mainly for playing tenor saxophone.

Kamasi Washington will perform at Way Out West on Saturday August 11.

Today's tune "Street Fighter Mas" is taken from the second studio album "Heaven and Earth". It was released on June 22, 2018, through Young Turks Recordings.

Arctic Monkeys - Do I Wanna Know?

For twelve years, the music and film festival Way Out West – that attracts visitors from all over Sweden and large parts of the rest of the world – has filled Gothenburg and Slottskogen with three days of music, festivities and culture. The programme includes the biggest stars in the world, the hottest new-comers, film premieres, challenging conversations, great vegetarian food and a robust club programme called ‘Stay Out West’ that takes place at night in central Gothenburg.

The ground concept remains the same; over three days we create a cultural melting-pot in central Gothenburg and establish the main area in beautiful Slottsskogen. We create the festival that we would like to visit ourselves, and one that we don’t think exists anywhere else in the world.

This is Way Out West!

This is my eleventh year on this festival and for some strange reason, I long for it. Much depends on the fact that it is the world's best colleagues, a bunch that is well welded that it goes like a dance, everyone know what to do and help eash other out and makes things easier for eash other to conquer it. Even if I, is not a big fan of Indie, Rap, Hip Hop, Dance or the most common artists that perform on this festival, not even am I a vegeterian, but once a year it works out just fine. And as I always do every year around the festival, I play some tunes from the artists that is going to perform and as long as we go I add some cool pictures and I even might tell a story, we will see about that. So for the next week, 10 days I will focus on WOW - 18. First out will be british bunch of Indie Rockers.

ARCTIC MONKEYS is a English indie rock band that is playing on Thursday at WOW.

Today's tune "Do I Wanna Know?" is a song recorded by ARCTIC MONKEYS for their fifth studio album "AM" (2013). The song was released as a single on 18 June 2013, together with an accompanying music video, and afterward became available for digital download via iTunes. A 7" vinyl edition of the single was released on 22 July 2013, with a B-side titled "2013".

The song was first played live on 22 May 2013 in Ventura, California, at the first concert of the ARCTIC MONKEYS' AM Tour. Throughout the tour, "Do I Wanna Know?" was being played as the opening number.

Musically, "Do I Wanna Know?" is an indie rock song with elements of psychedelic music and strong elements of stoner rock and blues rock. In terms of both lyrical content and aesthetic style, the song picks up from where the band's 2012 single "R U Mine?" left off. The guitar riffs are strikingly similar, but the song is more downtempo. The track continues the hard-edged, rocking sound of their previous album Suck It and See. In concert, singer and guitarist Alex Turner use a Vox 12-string electric guitar.

Structurally, the song follows a common pop music "verse-pre-chorus-chorus" form up until its second chorus; from that point on, it follows what Hit Songs Deconstructed calls "a more unorthodox flow" ending in a "pre-chorus/chorus hybrid section". Falsetto backing vocals form an interplay with those of Turner throughout the song. Moreover, the title encapsulates the entire premise of the story, the narrator wondering whether he wants to remain in doubt or know if his feelings are unrequited or mutual. "Do I Wanna Know?" is in the key of G minor.

The music video for the tune was directed by David Wilson with animation agency Blinkink, was first released onto YouTube on 18 June 2013. As of July 2018, it has been viewed over 690 million times. The video begins with a black background and simple visuals of white sound waves (similar to the AM cover art) that vibrate in synchronization, first with the percussion and lead guitar, then with the lead singer, Alex Turner. As the band enters with the chorus, colored sound waves illustrate new voices. Simple sound waves then give way to fast-moving, representational line-drawing animations that morph between a variety of female, race car, race car engine, and road racing images. At one point, the undulating white line becomes the "trucker's Mudflap girl", seen in the single's cover art. The line drawings are interrupted several times with flashes of full-color animation, several that recall the surrealistic style of Robert Crumb. The increasingly complex video creates, by turns, a somewhat jarring and psychedelic experience, in a style not unlike the Gary Gutierrez animations that were featured in The Grateful Dead Movie (1977). The video ends with the familiar white line becoming two crossed checkered flags, which join together in a single line with the "AM" initials. Enjoy!

Bachman-Turner Overdrive - Let It Ride

Sunday, time for a classic.

"Let It Ride" is a 1974 single by BACHMAN TURNER OVERDRIVE, written by Randy Bachman and Fred Turner, with the latter providing lead vocals. It was first recorded for the 1973 album "Bachman–Turner Overdrive II".

The tune was inspired by a traffic jam. The band was in their tour bus, on a highway, and were boxed in by a couple of trucks. When the bus and the trucks reached a rest area, the musicians confronted the truck drivers, who responded by saying the band should take it easy and just let it ride.

The song was covered by Canadian rock band BIG SUGAR on their 1998 album, Heated. It was also covered by Canadian country music group FARMERS DAUGHTER on their 1998 album "This Is the Life". Their version was released as a single in 1999 and peaked at #30 on the RPM Country Tracks chart in Canada.

In 2015, Canadian heavy metal band KOBRA AND THE LOTUS covered the song on their first EP Words of the Prophets.

BACHMAN TURNER OVERDRIVE is a Canadian rock group from Winnipeg, Manitoba, that had a series of hit albums and singles in the 1970s, selling over 7 million albums in that decade alone. Their 1970s catalogue included five Top 40 albums and six US Top 40 singles (eleven in Canada). The band has sold nearly 30 million albums worldwide, and has fans affectionately known as "gearheads" (derived from the band's gear-shaped logo). Many of their songs, including "Let It Ride," "You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet," "Takin' Care of Business," "Hey You" and "Roll on Down the Highway," still receive play on classic-rock stations.

Enjoy today's tune "Let it Ride", the clip is Live at Manitoba Prison, Canada, 1988 with

Randy Bachman (Guitar & Vocals), Charles Turner (Bass & Vocals), Rob Bachman (Drums & Backing Vocals) and Blair Thorton (Guitar & Backing Vocals).

Greta Van Fleet - When the Curtain Falls

A few weeks ago GRETA VAN FLEET premiered "When the Curtain Falls", the first single from their highly anticipated, as-yet-untitled debut album. A week ago, the band stopped by The Tonight Show to perform the single. See it below.

The young, Michigan-based group first came to prominence last year with their debut EP, "Black Smoke Rising", and its high-flying lead single, "Highway Tune." Since then, the group's profile has risen exponentially, with endorsements from the likes of Joe Satriani and a number of sell-out tour dates. A widespread comparisons to no-less than LED ZEPPELIN with their bombastic riffs, atomic drumming, and searing vocals.

The band have just started touring and soon they will pay Europe a visit and a show in Stockholm is set on November the 4th. Really looking forward to this.

Justin Timberlake - Can't Stop the Feeling!

After a well deserved "Short" vacation, we are back on the net again. I must say, that vacation rocks, big time, even if it was short, it was a great one. Took a trip up north with the family, a really hot summer resulted in lots of swimming, water skiing, bath fun and some nice visits among old friends and acquaintances on the road. Got some real Kentucky Fried Chicken at my buddy in Kramfors, an old American that found his place in life up north in Sweden raising up Huskeys and driving a dog sled. Just before my "Short" vacation started I did some cool shows with Beyonce and Eminem, both that was good in their own way, Beyonce arrived with a huge stage, a lot of dancers and musicians and her husband Jay-Z. Good show with some great Pyro. Eminem used a local stage, not so many extras except for a huge Video wall and some nice Pyro effects ended up to be a really good show.
A few days ago I got a chance to work with Justin Timberlake again. An extreme layout of the stage, cool video layout on rolling screens, not much pyro, big smoke in "Cry Me A River" and some propane on "Campfire" section where the presentation of the band was made and some covers were played. Overall it was pretty good for a pop star, he can certainly entertain his audience.

The Man of the Woods Tour is the sixth and current headlining concert tour by American singer Justin Timberlake. It is in support of his fifth studio album "Man of the Woods" (2018). The tour began on March 13, 2018, in Toronto, Canada.

The tour was first announced in January 2018, and due to demand, additional dates were released soon after. On February 5, 2018, the day following Timberlake's Super Bowl LII halftime show, Timberlake announced European tour dates, as well as second and third North American tour dates. Timberlake will tour Europe after the first North American leg, they will tour North America again starting in the fall. The third North American leg will begin in January 2019.

During a portion of the concert, Timberlake and his band the "Tennessee Kids" sing around a campfire. The "Stage Bar" VIP Experience on the tour includes a bar near the center stage and a drink ticket. A disco dance floor is near the stage, where Timberlake performs "Rock Your Body"

Setlist The following set list is from the show on March 13, 2018, in Toronto. It is not representative of all concerts for the duration of the tour.

"Filthy" "Midnight Summer Jam" "LoveStoned" "SexyBack" "Man of the Woods" "Higher Higher" "Señorita" "Suit & Tie" (contains elements of "Sho Nuff") "Soulmate" "My Love" (contains elements of "Blessings") "Cry Me a River" "Mirrors" "Drink You Away" "Flannel" "Until the End of Time" "Dreams" / " Ex-Factor" / "Come Together" / "Thank God I'm a Country Boy" (each sung by a backup singer) "Morning Light" "What Goes Around... Comes Around" "Say Something" "Montana" "Summer Love" "Rock Your Body" "Supplies" "Like I Love You" "Can't Stop the Feeling!"

At selected dates, Timberlake performed "Like I Love You". On May 9, 2018, during the concert in Nashville, Chris Stapleton joined Timberlake on stage to perform "Tennessee Whiskey".

Justin Randall Timberlake (born January 31, 1981) is an American singer-songwriter, actor, dancer, and record producer. Born and raised in Tennessee, he appeared on the television shows Star Search and The All-New Mickey Mouse Club as a child. In the late 1990s, Timberlake rose to prominence as one of the two lead vocalists and youngest member of NSYNC, which eventually became one of the best-selling boy bands of all time. Timberlake began to adopt a more mature image as an artist with the release of his debut solo album, the R&B-focused Justified (2002), which yielded the successful singles "Cry Me a River" and "Rock Your Body", and earned his first two Grammy Awards.

His critically acclaimed second album FutureSex/LoveSounds (2006), characterized by its diversity in music genres, debuted atop the U.S. Billboard 200 and produced the Hot 100 number-one singles "SexyBack", "My Love", and "What Goes Around... Comes Around". Established as a solo artist worldwide, his first two albums both exceeded sales of 10 million copies, and he continued producing records and collaborating with other artists. From 2008 through 2012, Timberlake focused on his acting career, effectively putting his music career on hiatus; he held starring roles in the films The Social Network, Bad Teacher, Friends with Benefits, and In Time.

Timberlake resumed his music career in 2013 with his third and fourth albums The 20/20 Experience and The 20/20 Experience – 2 of 2, exploring neo soul styles, partly inspired by the expansive song structures of 1960s and 1970s rock. The former became the best-selling album of the year in the US with the largest sales week, and spawned the top-three singles "Suit & Tie" and "Mirrors", while the latter produced the top-ten song "Not a Bad Thing". For his live performances, including the eponymous concert tour for the albums, he began performing with his band The Tennessee Kids, composed by instrumentalists and dancers. Timberlake voiced the lead character in DreamWorks Animation's Trolls (2016), whose soundtrack includes his fifth Billboard Hot 100 chart-topping single, "Can't Stop the Feeling!". His fifth studio album Man of the Woods (2018) became his fourth number one album in the US.

Throughout his solo career, Timberlake has sold over 32 million albums and 56 million singles globally, making him one of the world's best-selling music artists. Often cited as a pop icon, Timberlake is the recipient of numerous awards and accolades, including ten Grammy Awards, four Emmy Awards, three Brit Awards, and nine Billboard Music Awards. According to Billboard in 2017, he is the best performing male soloist in the history of the Mainstream Top 40. Time named him one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2007 and 2013.
