Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath

Yesterday it was time again for the annual hard rock evening that is always on eve of Twelfth Night. With great excitement got to play my own choices and to hear what the other participants have made up for this event, perhaps best of all is to discovering some new or old music that you did not know of and yes I found many during this evening that I need to look up/buy. In the biggest secret I have pieced together the tracks for this evening, some new discoveries that showed up at the last minute and some tunes which I brooding on for a whole year :) Some tracks were obvious through the presentation of the 2014's best albums that went on during Christmas and New Year.

My Record :)

This time it was particularly difficult to choose songs, hey, how many good songs were released during the 70s, how the hell select one ???? Well, I simply had to find a type of theme, a red thread to follow in order to separate out a bit, to make the life easier in the selection of the tune. So my theme was influences and style.

Crazy, oh yes really crazy.

This years line up of categories was:

1. Best 70's
2. Best 80's
3. Best 90's
4. Best 00's
5. Best 10's
6. Free Card
7. Free Card
8. Free Card

So over the next few days I'll present all my choices in the order of recording I had with me, some tracks I already have played here before, but that does not matter, good things should be repeated! I will also pick a few favourites that I discovered during the evening and share with you guys!

Here they come. Track no. 1 (track no.2 tomorrow and so on...)

My first choice from yesterday's Hard Rock Night and the categorie best 70's was "Black Sabbath", is a song by the British heavy metal band of the same name, written in 1969 and released on their self-titled debut album. In 1970, it was released as a four-track 12" single, with "The Wizard" also on the A-side and "Evil Woman" and "Sleeping Village" on B-side, on the Philips Records label Vertigo.

According to the band, the song was inspired by an experience that Geezer Butler had related to Ozzy Osbourne. In the days of Earth, Geezer Butler painted his apartment matt black, placed several inverted crucifixes, and put many pictures of Satan on the walls. Osbourne gave Butler a book about witchcraft. He read the book and placed the book on a shelf beside his bed before going to sleep. When he woke up, he claims he saw a large black figure standing at the end of his bed. The figure disappeared and Butler went to get the book, and it was gone.

A version of this song from Black Sabbath's first demo exists on the Ozzy Osbourne compilation album The Ozzman Cometh. The song has an extra verse with additional vocals before the bridge.

It's one of the band's most frequently performed tracks, being featured on every single tour of their career.

Todays tune "Black Sabbath", enjoy!
