Linn Öberg - Jump

One of Britain's favorite Swedish has just released the video and soon she will support a music legend! Linn Öberg is a Singer Songwriter based in Stockholm, Sweden.

When Linn Öberg makes music she is inspired by Bon Iver and Leonard Cohen. This she present acoustically with just guitar, drums and vocal harmonies. With a melodic voice loaded with deep passion and darkness, and with an ability to touch the listener to your very souls. Should I pull a reference to someone, then believe it is Ane Brun who are closest one in line.

Her career took off after she released her first single "Jump" in 2012 and then started working with Andy Ross, the man who once signed Blur. After this, she has been visible at several venues across London and in May 15 she doing a gig in Stockholm, opening for Grammy winner Sinéad O'Connor at Hamburger Börs in Stockholm.

For about a year ago, she released her first EP "Parades", available to listen to through any streaming service.

Todays tune "Jump" is taken from her EP "Parades"

Kvelertak - Kvelertak

A new week and it's time to present this weeks "Record Of The Week".

The six-piece punkrock band from Stavanger, Norway with the cool name "Kvelertak" The band formed in 2007. The group comprises vocalist Erlend Hjelvik, guitarists Vidar Landa, Bjarte Lund Rolland and Maciek Ofstad, bassist Marvin Nygaard and drummer Kjetil Gjermundrød. A band that is really frequented on this blog. Both the videos and live concerts where I have had the opportunity to photograph live, unfortunately, it was no such thing at the last visit.

This weeks "Record Of The Week" is the second album and latest with Kvelertak that goes under the name "Meir" (Norwegian for "more"), was released in March 2013. It was recorded at GodCity Studios in Salem, Massachusetts, United States and produced by Kurt Ballou of Converge, the cover artwork was created by John Dyer Baizley of the band Baroness. The band released music videos for "Bruane Brenn" and "Månelyst" and the self-titled song "Kvelertak".

"Meir" has a bouncy punk kinda vibe and the album compares ok with the previous one. It filled of very traditional basic song structures and catchy rhythms, more accessible and it's fun and energetic. It's hard to compete with their previous, considering how much I liked their self-titled album. But the "Meir" has a really high class and grows certainly over time. Riffs in the tunes "Spring Fra Livet", "Åpenbaring, "Evig Vandrar," and "Månelyst" among others are sure to keep the listener in the mood and maybe invites you to dance.

I definitely look forward to see what this band will come up with in the future and it will be incredibly exciting when the time comes to record number 3. One thing is for sure, if you like this band on record, you must experience this band LIVE! It's an energy boost like no other!

Todays tune is the final track, entitled, yes, "Kvelertak" which is a timeless beer-hoister. Enjoy! The video for the single are directed by Stian Andersen, edited by Erik Treimann. Filmed in March/April 2013 in London, Paris, Cologne and Oslo.

Blue Öyster Cult - Hot Rails To Hell

Sunday, time for a classic and today's tune influenced by fellow Ace of Spades (Spader Ess) blog post about live albums.

On Your Feet or on Your Knees is Blue Öyster Cult's first live album, released in early 1975. Each of the band's first three studio albums is represented by three songs each, two other songs are covers ("I Ain't Got You", albeit with modified lyrics, and "Born to Be Wild"), and one ("Buck's Boogie") is an original instrumental that remains a staple of the band's live shows to this day.

The 12 songs include performances at the Academy of Music in New York City, the Paramount Theatre in Portland, the Paramount Theatre in Seattle, the Show Palace in Phoenix, the Long Beach Arena, the P.N.E. Coliseum in Vancouver and the Capitol Theatre in New Jersey, though it is not clear which songs came from which venues and on what dates.

Blue Öyster Cult (often abbreviated BÖC) is an American rock band from Long Island, New York, United States, best known for such hard rock songs as "(Don't Fear) The Reaper", "Burnin' for You", and "Godzilla". Since the release of their self-titled debut album in 1972, the band has sold over 24 million albums worldwide, including 7 million in the United States alone. The band's music videos, especially "Burnin' for You", received heavy rotation on MTV when the music television network premiered in 1981, cementing the band's contribution to the development and success of the music video in modern pop culture. Today, BÖC's music continues to be played on AOR-friendly radio stations as well as in movies, television shows, and commercials, and even during sporting events.

Today tune "Hot Rails To Hell" is taken from the live album "On Your Feet or on Your Knees", originally released on "Tyranny and Mutation" from 1973.

Scorpion Child - Polygon Of Eyes

Hooks: a musical idea or short riff, passage, or phrase that catches the ear of the listener. Some bands have ‘em, most don’t. Austin-based five-piece Scorpion Child have ‘em in spades. Whether it’s an extended blues jam or a short slice of bombastic heavy rock “The Child” lay a hook so tasty everyone bites.

The Child, a band that plays hardrock and have all the classic ingredients to create a brilliant tune, where you, music listeners will dig into, maybe even become a new fan, my heart did they steal already at the first riff! It's a classic, messy and really catchy, heavy progressive sounds of Uriah Heep and the epic delivery of early Rainbow.

Attributes in music are known to be cyclical. Every few years, a band comes along which borrows just enough from the revered past to bring a new infusion of vitality to the musical present. The Child‘s sound invokes a time when guitar-driven rock ruled radio’s airwaves, when being hypnotized by a frontman and his bandmates in a concert arena was one of life’s ultimate main events.

Scorpion Child has spent the last few years perfecting both its songwriting and stage show. Guitarists Chris Cowart and David Finner deliver their finessed twin guitar attack with experience older than their years; bassist Shaun Avants and drummer Shawn Alvear are steadfast sentinels of their driving rhythm section; and lead singer Aryn Jonathan Black fronts the psychedelic rock cavalry with a passion and voice reminiscent of the early eras of Robert Plant and Ronnie James Dio.

Todays tune "Polygon Of Eyes" is the first single of their forthcoming self-titled album, it will be released on June 21. Produced and arranged by Chris “Frenchie” Smith (The Answer, …And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead, The Toadies), the CD was recorded using analog recording technology. It will be released as a limited CD digipack, vinyl, digital download versions of “Scorpion Child”.

Alice In Chains - Stone

The Seattle rockers Alice In Chains has just released "Stone" a new single from "The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here" which is their upcoming fifth studio album. It is expected to be released on May 28 2013, and will be Alice in Chains' second album since their 2005 reunion, following the 2009 release Black Gives Way to Blue.

About the tune and the upcoming album, I say just as Jerry Cantrell said to Revolver magazine: "I don't think you'll be surprised by anything you hear. ... It's us. But it's also really unique. It's got all the elements of any record we've put out, but it's unlike any record we've put out. Basically, it's the next chapter in the Alice in Chains book, and it's going to be a big one." Cantrell also said to Guitar World: "In my opinion, Black Gives Way to Blue stood up to anything else we've put out in our career. Hopefully, the new album will connect with people in the same way."

The cover artwork features the skull of a Triceratops with a second skull image steganographically hidden on a red background. The two skulls, when revealed, combine to form the image of the Devil. "The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here" album title refers to a belief held by some religious individuals that to confuse the masses of humanity, Satan himself planted dinosaur bones deep into the Earth to dissuade the faithful.

Alice in Chains is an American rock band formed in Seattle, Washington, in 1987 by guitarist and songwriter Jerry Cantrell and original lead vocalist Layne Staley. The initial lineup was rounded out by drummer Sean Kinney, and bassist Mike Starr (who was replaced in 1993 by Mike Inez).

Todays tune "Stone" is taken from the upcoming new album "The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here".

Black Star Riders - Bound For Glory

Tuesday, little worn out after two days at the Globe, nice to take it easy today, fixed some small things, painted a painting, has also managed to lain on the couch and listened to music, some lovely things such as Thin Lizzy Steve Wilson and Chris Robinson Brotherhood. Speaking of Thin Lizzy ....

Black Star Riders is a rock band formed in December 2012, when members of the most recent line-up of Thin Lizzy decided to record new material, but chose not to release it under the Thin Lizzy name. While Thin Lizzy will continue on an occasional basis, Black Star Riders will be a full-time band, described as "the next step in the evolution of the Thin Lizzy story". The band's first album, All Hell Breaks Loose, is to be released on 21 May 2013.

In May 2010, Thin Lizzy lead guitarist Scott Gorham announced the latest incarnation of the group, which had toured sporadically with various line-ups since 1996, after the death of band leader Phil Lynott in 1986. This marked the return of the original drummer Brian Downey and longtime keyboard player Darren Wharton, joining Gorham, bass guitarist Marco Mendoza, and vocalist and occasional guitarist Ricky Warwick. The other lead guitarist role was initially filled by Vivian Campbell, then by Richard Fortus, before Damon Johnson joined the band in August 2011. As the band toured throughout 2011 and 2012, they composed new material for possible release as a Thin Lizzy studio album and demos were recorded in June 2012.

In October 2012, it was announced that the new material would not be recorded under the Thin Lizzy name, and that a new band name would be used for the new songs. According to Gorham, this was "out of respect to Phil Lynott and the legacy he created", though he confirmed that the new material would feature the classic Thin Lizzy sound. He later confirmed that the decision was taken by himself and Downey, with the support of the other members of the band, and that the Thin Lizzy estate (controlled by Lynott's widow Caroline) had also been uncomfortable about new Thin Lizzy studio recordings. Warwick has acknowledged that a portion of Thin Lizzy fans were also against the idea of Thin Lizzy studio recordings without Lynott.

As the new material was being written, it became clear that Downey and Wharton would not be involved when the final recordings were made. Downey required a break from the heavy touring schedule, and Wharton wanted to return to his own band Dare, and to work on a film project. Warwick confirmed, "Brian and Darren just don't want to be on the road 150 days a year, and that's completely understandable. But we do."

Gorham has stated that Thin Lizzy will still perform as a band in the future: "Thin Lizzy isn't gonna die," he said. With reference to the much-publicised Lizzy "farewell" tour in late 2012, Warwick confirmed, "All that 'farewell' meant is that we're not going to do 150 Lizzy shows a year... those were just the last shows for a while." Thin Lizzy are due to complete a short tour of Australia in March 2013, with Downey and Wharton as part of the line-up. Black Star Riders

Damon Johnson has revealed that Gorham was against any name for the new band that was related to Thin Lizzy, "because this band has to stand on its own". Warwick named the band after a gang of outlaws in the 1993 western film Tombstone.

The band consists of Gorham and Johnson on lead guitar, Mendoza on bass guitar, with Warwick acting as vocalist and occasional guitarist. The band's drummer will be Jimmy DeGrasso, but no keyboard player has been recruited, with Gorham stating, "I don't think we are actually going to have keyboards in Black Star Riders. You never know what's going to happen down the road but that is the set-up right now with that."

All members are American with the exception of Warwick who is from Northern Ireland. Each member has previously achieved success with other acts – Gorham with all incarnations of Thin Lizzy since 1974 and with 21 Guns; Warwick with The Almighty; Johnson with his own band Brother Cane, and with Alice Cooper; Mendoza with Blue Murder, fronted by another ex-Thin Lizzy member, John Sykes; and DeGrasso with several acts including Megadeth, Suicidal Tendencies, White Lion and Alice Cooper. Gorham is the only member of Black Star Riders to have been a member of Thin Lizzy while Phil Lynott led the band and thus the only one to have appeared on a Thin Lizzy studio album.

Todays tune "Bound For Glory" is taken from the upcoming album "All Hell Breaks Loose", out May 24th (Europe), May 27th (United Kingdom) and May 28, 2013 (North America).

Ghost - Ghuleh / Zombie Queen

A new week, which means it's time to present this week's "Record of The Week". Sweden's Ghost (Ghost B.C.) back with a new full-length "Infestissumam" that is loaded with sparkling production, more details and a fleshy sound.

Ghost seeks to convert you to the dark side through a unique way of preaching, the spiritual leader Papa Emeritus II is adamantly in the Satanic Mass of deceptively beautiful musical psalms, occult theatrics and hyper-melodic doom metal will they welcome Satan himself into your life as your life trustee.

Living up to the hype that was created in conjunction with their début album "Opus Eponymous" is not easy, expectations are sky high. The new album "Infestissumam" has a much bigger and larger production than their debut, were Ghost's concept has greatly increased the precision, the album is more vivid than their previous rituals. The band has taken a new direction and is not as straight on as before, which I liked. However, there is a very good feeling in the songs, even if all are not so strong. Very melodic and catchy verses and hypnotic choruses that could almost make any believer to fall for. Ghost proves that it can be both catchy and sinister. Ghost is a band that must be experienced live, it's incredibly powerful.

Two singles have come already, both have been through here at Tune Of The Day, thinking of "Secular Haze" and "Year Zero", the second song is a track that stands out on the record.

Today's song is "The seven-and-a-half minute" Ghuleh/Zombie Queen is a real epic tune.

There are two version of the latest on Vinyl, the Scandinavians got a Clear one and the US got a Red.

Ghost are atm in the US on tour, here is the tour poster.
