Terry Reid - Dean

Sunday again ... heck how time goes by, hardly one can blink. It's been a pretty calm week for me, some music has passed my ear, was a bit larger event earlier this week, perhaps Thetania going to write about, I only heard the last act and I was not especially impressed.

At this day (Sundays), we usually dusting up a classic tune here. So todays classic will be a fellow called Terry Reid (born 13 November 1949, Huntingdon, England), who is an English rock vocalist and guitarist. He has performed with high profile musicians, as a supporting act, a session musician, and sideman.

Todays tune "Dean" is taken from the album River, released 1973. Reid returned with a new contract with Atlantic Records and the album was produced by Yes's Eddie Offord, the album received favourable reviews, but failed commercially. Some say it's a long lost classic, a flawed but worthy near masterpiece, others a bewildering jumble of styles, country rock, Latin, jazz and slow acoustic blues.

Iron Maiden - Seventh son of a seventh son

On July 13 the Maiden England tour hits Sweden where the band will play at the magnificent National Stadium in Stockholm - Friends Arena! This is the first rock show ever to beannounced at this brand new 50,000 capacity venue. Tickets will go onsale on Tuesday, October 2nd, at 9.00 am, with an exclusive first ticket pre-sale for Iron Maiden Fan Club members which will run from 10:00 Saturday 29th through to 18.00 hrs Sunday 30th September (local times). Fan club members will also be eligible in the draw to be ’First To The Barrier’.

Iron Maiden have recently completed the North American leg of the MAIDEN ENGLAND WORLD TOUR, one of the most successful rock tours of the summer, Iron Maiden will now be storming across Europe in 2013 playing stadiums, major festivals and arenas with this critically acclaimed show. The first date to be announced is at the UK’s Download Festival on Saturday June 15th when Maiden return to the legendary Donington Park to headline for a record FIFTH time! (following 1988,1992, 2003 & 2007).

That achievement is equally significant as 2013 is the 25th anniversary of Maiden first topping the bill there in 1988 when the festival was known as Monsters Of Rock attracting 107,000 fans, which is still the highest attendance ever at Donington. This was during their Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son tour, from which the current tour draws much of its inspiration for both set list and production as seen in the 1988 long form concert video ‘MAIDEN ENGLAND’, making this Download appearance even more unique!

Bruce Dickinson says,

“We were completely overwhelmed by the reaction from our North American fans to the MAIDEN ENGLAND Tour, which was our most extensive tour there for many years. Some of the cities we played we hadn’t visited in over twenty years so had no idea what to expect! But the opening night in Charlotte was packed to the rafters and the crowd was amazing. This continued throughout making the whole tour very special. We had a lot of fun playing the older songs there and the fans seemed to love the set list* and Eddie’s various incarnations! We all can’t wait to bring this show to our European fans.

“We’re absolutely over the moon to be headlining Donington again. The idea of returning exactly 25 years later with a show inspired by that same 1988 “Seventh Son” Tour, was too good an opportunity to be missed! And, thanks to modern technology, we’ve been able to update and improve on the original production. We will be bringing a huge new lightshow, stage set, various incarnations of Eddie, plenty of pyro and all kinds of other exciting stuff for the fans. And of course treating the fans to lots of their favourite songs from that period! We’ve had many great times at Donington and there is always a wonderful mix of bands and a really wild crowd who love their metal, all of which makes for a memorable show and fantastic party atmosphere!”

Steve Harris continues,

“We know how popular the History of Maiden Tours are with fans of all ages, so we want to take the show to as many places as we possibly can around Europe, taking with us the full production we had in North America. We had a huge amount of fun with the set list as we got to play songs we’d not played in a very long time like Seventh Son, The Prisoner and Afraid To Shoot Strangers, as well as fan favourites like The Trooper, Aces High, The Number Of The Beast, Wasted Years and Run To The Hills. The opening leg of the tour was so enjoyable for the whole band we’re really looking forward to taking it to our fans in Europe, and of course Donington”.

They will enter Swedish soil in July for a gig at Friends Arena on 13/7. Tickes will be released on 2 okt at 09:00

Todays tune is the title track from the seventh studio album "Seventh Son of a Seventh Son", released in 1988. It is the first Iron Maiden release to feature keyboards and, along with The Number of the Beast and, later, Fear of the Dark and The Final Frontier, debuted at No. 1 in the UK Albums Chart. It also marks the first appearance of many progressive rock elements, particularly seen in the length and odd-time signatures of the title track "Seventh Son of a Seventh Son," and by the fact that it is a concept album.

Performed live in 1988 at the Birmingham NEC, England. As seen on the "Maiden England" VHS.

Waiting for the concert will be long, a snow-white winter waiting, surely there is little time for a bit of skiing as well, then maybe this might be something to have??

Woods - Bend Beyond

Today we continue with some folk rock, now with a bit more squeaking in the wheels and presents the American folk rock band "Woods", a lo-fi folk-pop band from Brooklyn, which formed in 2005.

The band's membership now includes singer-guitarist Jeremy Earl, tape-effects technician G. Lucas Crane, bassist Kevin Morby, and multi-instrumentalist Jarvis Taveniere.

Woods have released five albums, the latest being Bend Beyond. Pitchfork Media reviewed one of their previous albums, Songs of Shame, giving the band its "Best New Music" designation and described the sound as "a distinctive blend of spooky campfire folk, lo-fi rock, homemade tape collages, and other noisy interludes, all anchored by deceptively sturdy melodies."

Singer-guitarist and founder Jeremy Earl also runs the rising Brooklyn label Woodsist, for whom the band releases their work.

Todays tune is the title track from seventh and latest album "Bend Beyond", released in September 2012, this clip is filmed at Storm King, New Windsor, NY on May 6, 2012.

Mumford & Sons - I Will Wait

Today it's time for some folk music here at the Tune Of The Day.

Todays tune "I Will Wait" is a song by British folk rock band Mumford & Sons. The track was first released in the United States on August 7, 2012 as the lead single from the band's second studio album, Babel (2012). With untouched vocals and harmonies, the boys manage to create yet another genuine Mumford & Sons track.

During the year, the band has been releasing new songs from their sophomore album online or performing them at concerts. Marcus Mumford told MTV that the song "reflects the band's hectic life on the road - which shaped the new album's sound." Ted Dwane told Rolling Stone, "Being away so much for the last couple of years is inevitably a theme on the record, because it's something that we've all shared." During an interview with Radio 1, Ben Lovett jokingly stated that the song was "the worst on the album..."

Goat - Let It Bleed

Today we present this week's album and we stay at our home ground, and invites you to dance to the Swedish collective Goat.

Bit of a mad one, this mysterious band describes them self as follows.

The band hails from a small and very remote village called Korpolombolo in deepest darkest Sweden. Legend has it that for centuries, the inhabitants of the village of Korpolombolo were dedicated to the worship and practices of Voodoo. This strange and seemingly unlikely activity was apparently introduced into the area after a travelling witch doctor and a handful of her disciples were led to Korpolombolo by following a cipher hidden within their most sacred of ancient scriptures. The reason it led them there is unknown, but their Voodoo influence quickly took hold over the whole village and so they made it their home - there, they were able to practice their craft unnoticed and unbothered for several centuries. This was until their non-Christian ways were discovered by the Church and they were burned out by the crusaders, the survivors cursing the village over their shoulders as they fled. To this day, the now picturesque village of Korpolombolo is still haunted by this Voodoo curse; the power of the curse can be felt throughout the grooves of the Goat records.

Music is like its based around a freaked out "Wickerman", Combine voodoo magic and psychedelic hallucinations. Manic monotonous rhythms leads behind slippery flutes, guitars and a wall of saxophone genomic cacophony, which must be heard to be believed. "World Music" must be one of the year's most delirious, delicious psych-rock records.

The record comes out really nice editions, here you can see what is expected, The vinyl is recommended, stylish as hell!

Bob Marley & The Wailers - So Much Trouble In The World

Sometime ago I received an order for a painting, the painting was supposed to be Bob Marley. The description was pretty simple, the picture should be clean, but contain the right colours. So I gave myself into this job and during the process making it was played allot of Bob Marley, even many others in the classic roots reggae got the chance for a spin on the record player, that can Thetania verify, hehe.

Now finally after some time is the painting delivered, here are the results.

So today we are playing some Bob Marley! A tune that is picked from the album "Survival", that is an album with an outwardly militant theme. Some speculate that this was due in part to criticism Marley received for the laid-back, ganja-soaked atmosphere of his previous release, "Kaya", which seemed to sidetrack the urgency of his message. In the song "Africa Unite", Marley proclaims Pan-African solidarity. The song "Zimbabwe" is a hymn dedicated to later-independent Rhodesia. The song was performed at Zimbabwe's Independence Celebration in 1980, just after the official declaration of Zimbabwe's independence. "Zimbabwe" is seen as an unofficial national song.

Survival was originally to be called Black Survival to underscore the urgency of African unity, but the name was shortened to prevent misinterpretations of the album's theme. Marley originally planned to release Survival as the first part of a trilogy, followed by Uprising in 1980 and Confrontation in 1983.

In South Africa the album was partly censored by the then apartheid government

Todays tune "So Much Trouble In The World" is the first track on the record and have a really good meaning. The clip is a Live Rehearsal @ Criteria Studios,Miami, 14/9 - 1980

Bad Company - Do Right By Your Woman

Sunday, time for a classic again. Do you guys remember the band English rock Bad Company? Well i do, the band consisting of two former Free band members — singer Paul Rodgers and drummer Simon Kirke — as well as Mott the Hoople guitarist Mick Ralphs and King Crimson bassist Boz Burrell. They formed in 1973. Peter Grant, who, in years prior, was a key component of fellow British rock band Led Zeppelin's rise to fame, managed the band. Bad Company enjoyed great success throughout the 1970s. Many of their singles, such as "Bad Company", "Can't Get Enough", "Good Lovin' Gone Bad", and "Feel Like Makin' Love", retain popularity with rockers of both the past and present decades. To this day, their songs remain staples of classic rock radio.

Todays tune "Do Right By Your Woman" is taken from Bad Company's third album "Run With The Pack is", it was released in 1976.

Run With The Pack was recorded in France with The Rolling Stones Mobile Truck in September 1975 with engineer Ron Nevison and mixed in Los Angeles by Eddie Kramer. The album was the only original Bad Company album not to feature artwork from Hipgnosis as it featured artwork from Kosh instead.

Their cover of the Coasters single "Young Blood" peaked at #20. The album also spawned rock radio classics "Silver, Blue and Gold", "Live For the Music", and the title track. Although "Silver, Blue and Gold" remains one of the band's most popular compositions, the song was never released as a single.

The vinyl had a shiny, silver cover, but CD versions feature a simple, dull gray cover. The album was remastered and re-released in 1994.

Willy Moon - I Wanna Be Your Man

Today is the Rock 'n roll all the way and we shall listen to something new and yet so old. Today we present the new rising star Willy Moon (born William Sinclair, 2 June 1989) is a New Zealand-born musician, singer and producer based in London.

In 2010 he released his first song I Wanna Be Your Man on Myspace where he was first noticed and subsequently acquired a record deal with Island Records. He officially released his first two singles through Luv Luv Luv Records. His music has been described as "a brilliantly odd fusion of 50s rock'n'roll and modern production" using "hip-hop production techniques".

Willy's single "Yeah Yeah" was playlisted on BBC Radio 1 in early 2012. He and his band also performed live in session for Huw Stephens for BBC Radio 1 at Maida Vale Studios in May 2012.

On Monday 30th July, it was announced that Willy would be releasing the single 'Railroad Track' through Jack White's label Third Man Records.

He has been named as "One to Watch" by The Guardian and one of the "Faces of 2012" by Q Magazine.

Todays tune "I Wanna Be Your Man" is a cool odd fusion of 50s rock'n'roll with modern production, all scratchy guitars, rib-rattling beats and cut-up vocals. This sounds old, yet refreshing at the same time. Enjoy!

Graveyard - Goliath

Today releases Swedish Graveyard their first single "Goliath" from the upcoming highly anticipated next album "Lights Out" due October 26th.

The new single release will include a special non-album track, "Leaving You." The 7“ vinyl version will be issued in four different colors, featuring four different cover artworks!

After the stunning cover for Hisingen Blues, the entire community is eagerly awaiting the new album's artwork!

“The cover is something completely different than the last cover,” states the band. “Our goal was that both the title and the cover would sum up the feeling of the album. And just to make things clear, "Lights Out" is not a reference to either UFO or ENTOMBED… even though both are excellent bands.”

"The lyrics deal with the feeling that everyday life is a constant David vs. Goliath scene. You all know the story and the scene. You look around, get pissed off and want to "stick it to the man." Musically it has many influences. And as usual we've tried to get it both heavy and swinging at the same time. So why don't you just shake your record collecting old ass to the beat of the new tune from your favourite Swedish numbskulls?“

Todays tune "Goliath" is the first single from the upcoming album, "Lights Out", coming October 26th. The 7" vinyl and the digital download is out today, September 21, 2012. Directors: Artur Wolgers / Dea Saracevic. Production: Mexico86
