Robyn - Dancing On My Own

Wrap up of Popaganda Festival 2010 and the last band out on Tune Of The Day for this time.

It was a nice weekend at the festival, no rain at all, what is this. The sun was up shining the hole day, sometimes it was hiding in the clouds, but as long as there was no rain it kept me happy along with all the others at Eriksdalsbadet. Friday was a pretty interesting day/evening, the day started with a band that didn't have a drum kit, but that was fortunately sorted kinda quickly so the band could enter the stage at time.

2:nd Band on stage was Jonathan Johansson that did a pretty well and sofar so good, all in time.

Before it was time for the 3:rd act there was group of swimmers that had a art show in the pool and right after that Familjen go up on the stage and in the middle of the set he started to invite some friends, like Martin Sköld from Kent and Markus Krunegård. But the girl behind the percussion was a nice surprise and did a hell of a job.

When it was time for the 4:th act Belle & Sebastian, some technical failure forced them to be on hold, it was one of the keyboard computers that broke. Belle & Sebastian came up on stage 15 mins late. But that didn't effect them at all, they did a great show and invited 5 people on stage for a dance. The also sorted the set with one song to not break the next change over to much.

But it wasn't enough, the time for the change over was to sort to get all the gear on place and get it line checked, so Robyn got up late, the hard curfew was set to 23 and that one never got hold this evening, not much but enough to get complains i guess. Anyway, Robyn really danced the socks of the audience and got crazy out there, kinda cool show of this certain girl, she knows how to entertain.

Saturday started much better, The Concretes load in went smoothly and all the gear on place in time, even a soundcheck and a Radio check for the Swedish Radio was done. The Concretes did a ok show, but overrun their time with 5 mins and that was not to good, as the next change over was only 30 min, and now got shorted to 25 mins, to the change over was in rapid mode and the gears flew out from the stage to get the next band Hästpojken on stage in time. And hey, Hästpojken started 1 min late, that is so cool.

After this it was time for todays art swim, and in the mean time the 3:rd band the indie poppers Shout Out Louds did get their gear in position. Shout Out Louds did a very good show, in my ears this weekends best band live.

A new change over and prep for the 4:th band on stage, The Magic Numbers, all when good until it was time to get them on stage some patching failure started and The Magic Numbers went on stage 10 mins late, they shorted their set with 2 songs to get back on track but that didn't help, the overrun their time with 5 mins. The overrun was probably caused during the Hammond Song where The Magic Numbers invited some friends from First Aid Kit, Shout Out Louds, The Concretes among others to sing, took some time to get them in.

Anyway the overrun was not the hole world as the last band Hot Chip had a superb crew, so i was almost certain that they would make a change over and line check under 40 mins. And hell they did it, the intro started 21:59 and i was cool again. The hole gig was done before 23 to the curefew was hold this evening and everybody was happy.

And now over for todays tune....

Robyn released the first of a trilogy of albums to be released this year titled Body Talk Pt. 1, in June 2010. It is her first album since Robyn (2005). The albums lead single "Dancing on My Own" was released a few weeks prior to the albums release, and became a hit single worldwide, including in the U.K. where it reached the Top 10. A follow up album, Body Talk Pt. 2 is due for release in September 17 and a follow up to that Speak Your Body: Body Talk Pt. 3 is expected in December 2010.

Todays tune "Dancing on My Own" is a song by Swedish recording artist Robyn from her fifth studio album, Body Talk Pt. 1. Co-written with and produced by Patrik Berger, the electropop ballad was released in the United States on 1 June 2010 and in the rest of the world on 14 June as the album's lead single.

"Dancing on My Own" received positive reviews from contemporary critics who compared the style and lyrics to "With Every Heartbeat". The song became Robyn's first number one hit in Sweden. It reached number three in the U.S. on Billboard's Hot Dance Club Songs chart, and became her fourth UK top ten hit, peaking at number eight. It also charted in Denmark, Norway, Belgium (Flanders) and Germany.
