Coheed and Cambria - Welcome Home

Although originally forming as a rock trio in 1995, New York's Coheed and Cambria officially took root in 2001, shedding their former name of Shabutie and embracing a fusion of progressive rock and highly conceptual album themes. Vocalist/guitarist Claudio Sanchez, guitarist Travis Stever, bassist Michael Todd, and drummer Joshua Eppard issued their group's full-length debut, 2002's The Second Stage Turbine Blade.

In 2006 did both bassist Michael Todd and drummer Josh Eppard departed from the band. Meanwhile, Sanchez and Stever decided to carry on and, bolstered by the return of Todd and the temporary enlistment of Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins, began recording their fourth album, Good Apollo I'm Burning Star IV, Vol. 2: No World for Tomorrow. The group's lineup was soon cemented with the addition of ex-Dillinger Escape Plan drummer Chris Pennie, and the album -- part two of the saga's two-tiered conclusion -- was released in October 2007, followed by the live recording Neverender: Children of the Fence in 2009. In 2010 the band returned with Year of the Black Rainbow, which served as a prequel to the Amory Wars story line. Yesterday did I made a visit to the local record store "Soundpollution" and as usual when I'm there i will come out with a few records under my arm and one of them was "Year of the Black Rainbo" haven't got time to listen to it yet, but i will soon, and yes it was on vinyl! :)

Current Lineup:

* Claudio Sanchez – lead vocals, guitars, keyboards, theremin, programming, lyrics
* Travis Stever – guitars, lap steel guitars, backing vocals, synthesizer
* Michael Todd – bass, backing vocals
* Chris Pennie – drums, percussion

Todays tune "Welcome Home" is the third track on the album, Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV, Volume One: From Fear Through the Eyes of Madness. The song was the first single on the album, and was made into a music video.

The song itself details The Writer's hostile feelings for Erica Court after he has learned that she cheated on him. In the graphic novel, The Writer sees a twisted vision of himself binding Erica with a rope to throw her in a grave - which represents the end of his love. The graphic novel shows The Writer saying, "Welcome home," to Erica as she looks at her open grave, but as this is only a vision, The Writer still longs to be with her.
