Hound Dog Taylor & Little Walter - Wild About You Baby

Theodore Roosevelt "Hound Dog" Taylor (April 12, 1915 - December 17, 1975) was an American blues guitarist and singer.
Hound Dog Taylor is best known for his raw vocal style and searing slide guitar, using a cheap Teisco guitar and Sears Roebuck amplifier to great advantage. He was not a smooth virtuoso on either of his instruments (guitar or vocals), and was known to say, "When I die, they'll say, 'He couldn't play shit, but he sure made it sound good!'" The HouseRockers were also unique in the fact that they had no bass player; rather, Taylor and Phillips would take turns playing the rhythm/bass line while the other soloed. Hound Dog Taylor and the HouseRockers have been called "The Ramones of the blues".
Freddie King admitted when interviewed that his classic, "Hideaway", later covered by Eric Clapton, was inspired by an unnamed Hound Dog Taylor instrumental he had heard Taylor perform at the south side Chicago club Mel's Hideaway in the late 1950s. Stevie Ray Vaughan also covered Taylor's best known song, "Give Me Back My Wig", both in concert and in studio.

Black Stone Cherry - Lonely Train

After a great evening with Black Stone Cherry i need to post one more tune.
Todays tune is Lonely Train a little bit heavier than yesterdays tune but its really good, enjoy.

Some of Black Stone Cherry's most famous artwork, such as the cherry smoking a cigar is from a local tattoo artist, from West Main Street Tattoos in Glasgow, KY named Zach Burcham, who is listed in the art section under the thank you's of the self-titled album "Black Stone Cherry" as Zachry Burcham.

Black Stone Cherry has toured in the United States extensively and has also supported Hinder in Europe before headlining their own European tour starting in Sheffield, England.
Other ventures included supporting the band Buckcherry. In 2006 when Buckcherry had to cancel a few shows, Black Stone Cherry opened and played a full set so that the crowd "could get its money's worth".
Also in late 2006/early 2007, BSC opened up for Zakk Wylde's Black Label Society, gaining recognition among a crowd with heavier musical taste. At the Los Angeles show at the Wiltern, Black Stone Cherry played a heavier version of Muddy Waters' "Hoochie Coochie Man".
In 2008 the band supported Def Leppard and Whitesnake on all dates of the latter's extensive Great Britain and Northern Ireland tour. On 26th June, their last date on this tour, the band succeeded in their lifelong dream of playing Wembley Arena. They have also opened for Drowning Pool.
Shortly after finishing their tour supporting Def Leppard and Whitesnake, Black Stone Cherry announced an 8 date UK tour in December. The support act for this tour are to be The Answer, an Irish rock band, as well as special guests Sevendust.
And now they hit the roads in Sweden and will enter the stage @ Klubben tonight with Swedish Backdraft.

Lacuna Coil - Enjoy the Silence

Lacuna Coil is an Italian gothic metal band formed in 1994.
Formerly known as Sleep of Right and Ethereal, the band was inspired by the combination of gothic imagery and music, and the members have been known, musically, for composing midtempo songs consisting of guitar lines overlaid with prominent keyboard work, and contrasting dual female/male vocal harmonies to help create a melodic detached sound, heavily emphasized on their 2002 breakthrough album Comalies. Much of the band's recent material, however, sees a heavier and more down-tuned style, featuring a more distinct bass line and a higher mixing of the guitars within the songs.

The band's 2006 release, Karmacode peaked at number 28 on the Billboard 200. They have played among the world's biggest heavy metal festivals on the main stage including Ozzfest, Bloodstock Open Air, Wacken Open Air, and played with Megadeth on their Gigantour tour in November 2007.

Todays tune is also a cover :)

Saturday 15 November 2008

Linkin Park - Enjoy The Silence

Linkin Park is an American rock band from Agoura Hills, California.
Since their formation in 1996, the band has sold more than 50 million albums and won two Grammy Awards.
They achieved mainstream success with their debut album, Hybrid Theory, which was certified Diamond by the RIAA in 2005. Their following studio album, Meteora, continued the band's success, topping the Billboard 200’s album charts in 2003, and was followed by extensive touring and charity work around the world.
Recognized for their adaptation of the nu metal and rap rock genre into a radio-friendly yet densely-layered style in Hybrid Theory and Meteora, the band moved away from this and explored a variety of other genres in their latest studio album, Minutes to Midnight. The album topped the Billboard charts and had the third best debut week of any album that year.
They are also known for their several collaborations, most notably with rapper Jay-Z in their mash-up album Collision Course, and many other artists on Reanimation.

Todays tune is a cover, written by Depeche Mode and performed by LP.

Slipknot - Duality

Slipknot is an American heavy metal band from Des Moines, Iowa. Slipknot consists of nine members, the current band members are Sid Wilson, Joey Jordison, Paul Gray, Chris Fehn, Jim Root, Craig Jones, Shawn Crahan, Mick Thomson, and Corey Taylor. The band's line-up has remained unchanged since 1999. Each member of the band wears a unique mask.
Slipknot formed in 1995 and underwent several line-up changes following the independent release of Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat. in 1996. Their self-titled debut studio album was released in 1999 and was followed by Iowa in 2001 and Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses) in 2004. On August 25, 2008, the band returned to release their fourth studio album, All Hope Is Gone, which debuted at the top spot on the Billboard 200 charts. The band has released three DVDs including 2002's Disasterpieces, which was certified quadruple-platinum in the United States.

Controversy with masks
The band's image has started controversy over the years. A portion of the controversy comes from the band Mushroomhead, who, along with their fans, claim that Slipknot stole their image. In 2005, another source of controversy was the band's lawsuit against Burger King, claiming that company created the advertising based band Coq Roq to capitalize on Slipknot's image.
The band's lawyer claimed that Burger King had contacted the band's label to get Slipknot to take part in an "advertising campaign designed to motivate young people to vote". Burger King responded to the suit with a countersuit, and in that suit pointed out that many other bands, such as Mudvayne, Kiss, and GWAR have used masks as part of their image, although after private discussions the advertising campaign was dropped.

Slipknot is doing thier European Tour atm and visit Stockholm and Hovet on the 12:th and gave a marvelous show for thier fans and i thought it was pretty good.
Warm up acts was Machine Head and Children of Bodom

Levellers - One Way

The Levellers are a popular English rock band influenced by punk and traditional English music. They are based in Brighton, England where they were founded in 1988. There are several stories regarding how they got their name; from the Levellers, a radically democratic faction of Oliver Cromwell's New Model Army; as a reference to "The Level", a flat open space near where members of the band used to live in Brighton; or simply, according to guitarist, Simon Friend, a word they chose from a dictionary. Strongly interested and outspoken about green anarchism issues the band have built up a strong and devoted fanbase, despite being nearly universally ignored by mainstream critics. The band have been spokespeople for a number of issues including campaigning against the Criminal Justice Act (and its measures against rave parties) and various anti-capitalist and environmental issues. They continue to tour extensively around Britain and Europe but maintain a mutual dislike with the music press which stems from their early days.

The Levellers played @ Debaser a few days back and the guys was in a good mood and deliverd a great concert.

Nebula - Loose Cannon

Nebula is a psychedelic stoner rock band, formed by guitarist Eddie Glass and drummer Ruben Romano after departing from Fu Manchu in 1997. Rob Oswald, later replaced Ruben Romano on drums in 2007.

They were joined on bass by Mark Abshire until he left during the recording of Atomic Ritual which was produced by well known desert rocker Chris Goss and released in 2003. Simon Moon stepped in until a final replacement was found in Tom Davies. Atomic Ritual was released to warm critical praise, with AMG calling Nebula a "hard-working power trio [that] sounds like it has been hanging out in the garage since 1969, blissfully unaware of the changing world outside. Which is definitely to its benefit [...]"

They are currently touring Europe with stoner metal legends Monster Magnet.
And they made a great performance the other day.

Monster Magnet - Monolithic

Monster Magnet is an American hard rock band. Hailing from Red Bank, New Jersey, the group was founded by Dave Wyndorf (vocals and guitar), John McBain (guitar), Tom Diello (drums), and Tim Cronin (vocals and bass). The band first went under the name "Dog of Mystery" and later "Airport 75" before finally settling on "Monster Magnet," taken from the name of a 1960s toy made by Wham-O, which Wyndorf liked when he was a child.

On February 27, 2006 Dave Wyndorf overdosed on prescription drugs.
His management released the following statement.

The battle with one’s inner demons is the most personal fight any of us can undertake. The fight is at times a lonely, confusing journey. On the evening of February 27, Dave Wyndorf suffered a set back in his own fight and was hospitalized for a drug overdose. His full recovery is expected. We ask that all those he has encountered over the years or simply affected by his music to take a moment to think good thoughts of and for him. With the grace of God and those who love him we are all confident that Dave will rebound from this set back and continue to play and make great rock and roll.

In 2007, it was announced that Monster Magnet would release a new album, 4-Way Diablo, which had been put back for a year because of Wyndorf's overdose. It was released later that year. Later in 2007, another greatest hits collection, 20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection: The Best of Monster Magnet, was released.
Shortly before 4-Way Diablo was released, the Monster Magnet Official Website was finally updated, once :)

Monster Magnet is now out on tour and yesterday they visit Sweden for a show @ Klubben/Stockholm.

The Hellacopters - In The Sign of Octopus

Todays tune is with a tear in the eye, after 4 shows this weekend with The Hellacopters and the farwell tour has hit its end.
The first day (Saturday) with one show at 13:00 CET for all the Copters familys, friends and other VIPs was great first of four sold out goodbyes. The evening show was even better, the band was really thrilled and gave all they got and this evening show, something happened with the electricity on stage. Some jackass thrown some beer in the sky and some of it got thrown at the lightningdesk which collapsed the lighting system. Soon after that the stage power got nuts and for some unknown reason Kenny bassamp died and one minute later all monitors onstage started to feedback LOUD and Nick got Electrocuted from his mic and took a flight back, the band walked of stage, Nick was so pissed that he coulnt finish the show (though they had only little over one song left), Nick is ok after all.
Sunday morning was a really a quiet one, all members was very down in the mood (allmost that someone has died) you could feel it in the air.
The 3:rd show was a allages, so the house was crowded with kids and no beer in the bar (Got some of the older once a little crumpy that they had to drink cola :))
The guys went up and gave the kids a superb show the audience got crazy, they almost tear down the place when 'Dregen' entred the stage. The final, last and 4:th one was the true climax of this weekend at Debaser.
The guys was tierd, no doubt about that, but they find some extra energy and they gave 110%, even if the middle things was a little bit longer than usal. The heat inside was lika a sauna and he guys looked like they came in from the shower with out touching a tovel and this already half way thru the show.
When they started on the last songs, loads of flowers was flying up on stage.
Audience was crying and that was a really strange feeling.
When the band finally went of stage the audience was clapping and crying and even i could notice the emptyness and the tears.
This was a great final of a magical thing.
The Hellacopters is dead, Long live The Hellacopters.

Aiden - Last Sunrise

This band comes to Sweden, Stockholm saturday and plays at "Klubben".
Im not a real fan of ´em but this song begins real cool ...

From the foggy majesty of Seattle, Washington comes Aiden, a young band who meld punk, post-hardcore and goth influences into a lethal stew that recalls the best of bands like AFI and H.I.M.

They begun to play around 2003 i think, They took their name after the film "The Ring"

Ah well, im working at this gig ill try to like em a bit more :)

Eagles of Death Metal - Wannabe In LA

Eagles of Death Metal (EoDM) is an American band formed by Jesse Hughes
and Josh Homme.
Despite the name, Eagles of Death Metal is not a death metal band. Hughes in an interview with a Polish rock magazine Teraz Rock told the story of the band's name. He said that his friend, Lou, was trying to make Josh Homme like death metal. When he played Vader, Homme called them "The Eagles of death metal." Later, Josh Homme inspired him to write music that he thought would be The Eagles crossed with death metal,
and their debut album was the result.
In a 2003 interview Homme described the sound of the band as a combination of "bluegrass slide guitar mixed with stripper drum beats and Canned Heat vocals." Jesse Hughes is known and somewhat loved by fans for his over-enthusiastic and charismatic interaction with audiences at live performances.

Mogwai - Batcat

Mogwai are a Scottish rock group from Glasgow, Scotland.
Formed by Stuart Braithwaite and Dominic Aitchison in 1995,
Mogwai has since become one of the most influential and best known
names in post-rock.

They typically compose lengthy, instrumental guitar-based pieces in the post-rock tradition. They are usually focused around the elaboration of a single theme and are known for dynamic contrast, melodic bass guitar riffs, their use of guitar distortion and effects. Braithwaite has commented on the absence of lyrics in most of Mogwai's music, saying:

"I think most people are not used to having no lyrics to focus on. Lyrics are a real comfort to some people. I guess they like to sing along and when they can't do that with us they can get a bit upset."

Cult Of Luna - Back To Chapel Town

And yes i got really thirlled about what came out from thier instruments, it was very powerful.

Cult of Luna is a Swedish sludge/post-metal band from Umeå. They formed from the remnants of a Umeå hardcore punk band called Eclipse in 1999. They slowly garnered critical appreciation and underground popularity with early releases Cult of Luna (2001) and The Beyond (2003); however, it is 2004's Salvation that can be considered their 'breakthrough' release. By cutting down on the somewhat esoteric use of aggression so indicative of doom, it appealed to a new group of fans. Its calmer sound has earned it favourable reviews in the mainstream music press, a reputation built upon for the release of Somewhere Along the Highway in 2006, another largely well-received album.
In August 2006, the band released a remake of "Marching to the Heartbeats" from Somewhere Along the Highway entitled "Heartbeats" solely on the internet community MySpace. The song was available for download for a few days and was later removed. The point was to see if the song would be kept alive by file sharing, and was also apparently a statement against the conservative music industry, says keyboardist Anders Teglund in an interview.
In April 2008, the band announced the upcoming release of their fifth album entitled Eternal Kingdom. It was released on June 16 in Europe followed by its release on July 8 in the United States.

Lucinda Williams - World Without Tears

Lucinda Williams (born January 26, 1953) is an American rock, folk, and country music singer and songwriter.
She recorded her first albums in 1978 and 1980 in a traditional country and blues style and received very little attention from radio, the media or the public. In 1988, she released her self-titled album, Lucinda Williams. This release featured "Passionate Kisses" a song later recorded by Mary Chapin Carpenter which garnered Lucinda her first Grammy (Best Country Song, 1994). Known for working slowly, only one other album was recorded and released in the next several years (Sweet Old World in 1992) before her greatest success came in 1998 with Car Wheels On A Gravel Road. This album presented a broader scope of songs that fused rock, blues, country and Americana into a more unique style that still managed to remain consistent and commercial in sound. It went gold and earned Lucinda another Grammy while being universally acclaimed by critics. Since Car Wheels, she has released a string of albums that have also been critically acclaimed, though none have sold in the numbers of her 1998 breakthrough. She was also named "America's best songwriter" by TIME magazine in 2002

John William Coltrane (September 23, 1926 in Hamlet, North Carolina — July 17, 1967)[1] was an American jazz saxophonist and composer, and the husband of Alice Coltrane.
Though he was active before 1955, his prime years were between 1955 and 1967, during which time he reshaped modern jazz and influenced generations of other musicians. Coltrane's recording rate was astonishingly prolific: he recorded about fifty recordings as a leader in these twelve years, and appeared on many more led by other musicians. Throughout his career Coltrane's music took on an increasingly spiritual dimension that would color his legacy. He passed away from liver cancer in Huntington Hospital, Long Island, New York.

Bethany & Rufus - 900 Miles

It often seems that the best music being made today completely defies category. The most exciting artists are mixing influences from dusty American field recordings to modern jazz, from delicate folk pop to the Griot traditions of Africa. Bethany & Rufus are just such an example, and yet they take it a step further by taking a step back. The duo, comprised of the honey-voiced Bethany Yarrow (daughter of famous folk singer Peter Yarrow) and the world-renowned cellist Rufus Cappadocia, refine their vast influences through the minimalist combination of voice and cello, while focusing their attention on traditional songs from America's gritty folk past such as "St. James Infirmary," "East Virginia" and "Linin' Track." The results on their debut album, 900 Miles, are stark, haunting and utterly gorgeous. It can draw comparisons as easily to Cassandra Wilson as the Cowboy Junkies, Nina Simone as Jolie Holland. With a national tour on the horizon and festival bookings already stacking up for 2007, it's only a matter of time until Bethany & Rufus are themselves influencing a new generation of artists.
